First I want to say (Statistically) I think im a top 5% controller player. Been Predator 6 seasons in apex #1 in multiple fps shooters, and always high rank in Halo. This isn’t to brag its to show that I have experience with these titles at a competitive level. I am also 28, so I’ve been around the block.
Aim assist was created on controller because aiming with a joystick was naturally and inherently more difficult than aiming with a mouse.
For the sake of argument let’s say Infinite is input based. If this is the case why make aiming with a controller so “unenjoyable” and inconsistent that it takes away from the positive experience.
Final take-away: I’m ok with a nerf to the aim assist for cross-play lobbies, but not to the extent at which it is at. I know there are a lot of big streamers out there that will dog on AA till you want to throw your controller at them but it simply isn’t fair. Controller players shouldn’t have to feel punished because M&k players feel slightly cheated.
Thank you,
I dunno, I’m in a similar place to you in that I rank highly in most games that I play and I’m not sure I agree.
It felt off at first but over the course of the flight I understood a lot more about what I needed to do. The aim assist felt fine to me, within each weapons appropriate ranges. There appears to be conscious things put in place to help balance out controller and mouse too.
Obviously it will be clear early on if one input has the advantage and if that’s the case they can tweak aim assist accordingly for the weapons that need it. I’m sure they already have a bunch of data from the flight confirming how each input performed with each weapon across the board.
I think if we turn it up much more at the current movement speed then people just aren’t missing shots. I know players like Frosty had almost 60% accuracy in the flight and that seems about right. People are new to the game, they just need to get accustomed to it and find the controller settings that work best for them.
The only solution is input-based matchmaking for ranked play. And honestly, this should have been the solution for HCS too. As much as I don’t want this to be the solution, it has to be because no one will think cross-input will be fair 100% of the time.
For example, even if 343 had magically found a way to perfectly balance the inputs, if “Johnny No-Thumbs” got beat by “Mikey M&K Pro”, Johnny would perceive the only reason they lost was because controller didn’t have enough AA. And vice-versa if “Armless Matt M&K” got beat by “Steel Thumbs Tommy”, Matt would perceive the only reason they lost was because controller had too much AA.
Maybe, I’m still down to see how it plays out. All I know though is that sniping was harder in this game than any game I’ve ever played. Besides maybe crossfire x

I agree with this 100% I’m just saying controller shouldn’t have to be nerfed into existence to please one side of the crowd.
The aim assist on controller on Console is very minimal it can’t launch in this state or social crossplay will die in its infancy.

Oh yeah damn dude the sniper is much harder to use but I wonder how much of that comes down to the descope being so easy to trigger consistently. With the AR you can’t even scope in between shots.
It’s not hard to hit shots quickly when people aren’t shooting you I found. Got a killtac using the snipe in 4vs4 on Behemoth. But then on maps like Live Fire I might as well not pick it up. If the KBM players dominate then the aim assist definitely needs a boost on Snipe. It was even worse in the first flight!
But yeah I think we will have to see. You don’t want it to feel unsatisfying for most people to play, but reception has been good so I think people are satisfied using the AR. Ranked will probably be BR starts too and we got plenty of aim assist there.
Yeah, it doesn’t need a massive buff but just enough to even the playing field. From what I’ve seen though, especially with a weapon like the sniper, it’s not even just a matter of no aim assist. HiddenXperia did a video where he showed the sniper wouldn’t actually hit where your crosshair was when you hip-fired. I’m not sure if this also translates to other weapons doing this but this could be another reason why people have a hard time landing their shots as well.

Sniper has bloom. I think it’s disgusting, you can check out my post if you want.
