In the infinite flight I noticed that it was 500xp to level. Idk if it will remain that way or not. I guess 343 is worried that match XP will stunt people from playing. Here’s my suggestion.
Standard game modes (slayer, swat, 4v4, 8v8, BTB, oddball, CTF, and modes akin): Win:10xp. Loss 5xp.
Infection, Griffball and other fun games without huge competition or sweat: win 5xp. Loss: 2 XP.
FF: 5 XP.
Ranked match win: 15 XP. Loss: 2 XP. (Needs to be harsh because obvious reasons. It’s ranked)
Even playing without challenge completion it would take 50 match wins of regular Slayer to lvl. Is it a grind? Yeah. Yeah it is. But as others have noted H.I. has to compete with other f2p games like Fortnite and Apex. It needs to keep us around for the rotation of seasons.
Does this still push us to use challenges to ultimately level? Yes.
What does this fix? Well, obviously, the XP issue, but it also stops players from sitting in something like FF (Ala reach issue) and just dumping XP into the bar. It also pushes players to play harder to progress matches faster. Now obviously this won’t always be the case as there will be young players just playing for fun, keep that in mind. Us vets may still get sweaty, but there are always noobs joining the fray.
This also helps KEEP players around. The vast majority of the community HATES the current system, it’s pushing people away. The very opposite of 343’s intention. I would rather have stunted XP gain for MP match completion then Challenge exclusive
Is this a perfect system, !BLAM! NO. BUT, it is a decent suggestion. Thoughts?
This topic has actually been semi addressed already but changes won’t be happening for launch as it’s actually quite a large job to revamp a progression system. Whilst the team is in shutdown not features & systems like this won’t be started on until the game has gone gold (ready to ship).
The XP earn rate in the Flight isn’t accurate to what the final game will be like.
The Flight had a toned down version of the progression system so that players could easily earn and test the system and understand it.
343i have already said that at launch the only way to get XP will be through challenges. Source. Source 2
For the time being, they’ve actually increased the amount of challenges we get per day significantly co compensate for the lack of per match XP. [Source

Per match XP is likely to come down the road, without knowing specific XP numbers per season rank etc its Difficult to really specify how much you can get per match, they don’t want players to finish a Battle Pass super quick but also don’t want to make it super grindy either.

I have there that really bad feeling of what they really want:
“You can finish the battle pass fast, but here, you have to pay for it”
Personally I would rather there be a separate XP progression from the battle pass and works towards just normal leveling like in MCC and previous Halo games, through leveling up you can unlock new armor, skins etc and maybe extra challenges to use towards your battle pass, battle pass XP being tied to challenges is alright but challenges being the only thing to work towards in MP matches? Not very enthusiastic about that one, no incentive to play well or win just to play the game how they tell you to so you can knock out the challenges and unlock rewards.

Quite possible to be fair, in the Flight with enough credits you could keep buying a level skip. Wether that was a bug or not I’m not too sure.
I have 120 2XP boosts sitting on my account from the Monster Energy promo last year. I should be flying through Season 1 anyway haha.
Ive been saving Microsoft Reward points to buy some gift cards to stack up on Credits too.

Okay that’s reasonable. Kinda like I said in the beginning I didn’t know if it was an accurate representation so I scales XP match gain to what I knew. Hopefully it will be like that’s cuz often I don’t grind challenges with my friends or by myself. I’m also a HUGE infection and Swat fan so those are often the games I enjoy. IF PLAYABLE Elites are truly coming id love to see a sword only match like my friends and I do, but I’m getting off topic…
I appreciate your educated response and accurate pinpointing of XP scaling overall. I do hope that is the case as to how XP will be kinda dishes out ya know? It’s just… Kinda unfair to no sweats ya know?

I noticed that was kinda the case with "Skips maybe? I mean you could make your way through the pass without buying it and then buy it at the end? I think??? The phrasing was a little sketchy tbh

For sure, it was one of my biggest gripes with the Flight to be honest.
I think the increase in daily challenges is a good middle ground for the time being.
In the flight only having about 5 challenges per day just put you in a position of making so little progress, especially if you’re trying to “catch up” on older seasons you’ve missed too. Would be so difficult to make progress.
Glad they’re hearing the feedback about it and working to implement a solution.

Some forum members have been saying similar things. The new system is about money. This xp system is not user friendly in any way. I can see players running out of challenges very quickly. Especially if they don’t like them. I guarantee you’ll never see me grinding for objective based challenges. This system is ridiculous, forcing us how to play will result in players walking.

Yeah, it isnt like they’ve had 6 years to get this right. Splitgate was made by what, 4 or 5 people in 2 years and it has a standard XP system alongside its battle pass. You’re telling me this much larger team with Microsoft money behind it cant even give us a bare minimumprogression system after 6 years? If they aren’t even going to begin revamping this worthless progression system until the game basically comes out, then I wont even consider playing it until they overhaul this trash. Proper progression became an industry standard in 2007. Modern Warfare figured it out 14 years ago. Did 343 decide to ignore every single game with a real progression system since then? That would mean they’ve even ignored their own games. It is pathetic and should be criticized to hell and back. This whole situation is pure, unfiltered incompetence from 343. Launching a F2P multiplayer experience where the only form of progression is something you have to pay for. In 2021. How could a huge team of supposedly smart people be so unbelievably foolish? For -Yoinks!- sake at the very least just give us what MCC had.
Again I sincerely have to give them some credit at least for destroying any and all excitement I had for Infinite in record time.

Why are you trying to just bring complete negativity instead of having a actual conversation, I honestly despise posts like this.
Halo Infinite hasn’t been in active development for 6 years. A lot of that time is spent creating a new engine - that’s not a easy task for any team. The fact that 343i spent the time to do that to make sure Halo Infinite can endure the long life cycle it’s expected to have is impressive.
Halo Infinite is doing a lot more than any other Halo game has done in the past. That game isn’t going to have a perfect launch since development has obviously been rocky, big names leaving and joining, not to mention global pandemic and trying to set up a work from home setup for 100’s of employees, what do you really expect at this point? I’m so tired of this “343 suck, they’ve had 6 years” etc. Could you have done better? Apply for a job and do it yourself?
Can you at least try to have a constructive conversation instead of feeding into this constant negative narrative.
We all know the game isn’t perfect, but at least 343i are being beings and open about the things that players don’t like and are willing to look at them and try to come up with something better.
I’m not going to be responding to you on this topic any further. It’s just boring and really not worth the time. Trying to reason with someone who doesn’t want to hear it isn’t worth it.

I cant tell if you are being serious or are just a fanboy. What I’ve said absolutely contributes to the conversation. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that this current system is a total disaster. It so far has near unanimous hate from the community and rightfully so. You are seriously defending the fact that the only progression in this game will be something you have to pay for. How can anyone defend that in 2021? You hate posts like mine for pointing out their incompetence? So be it, I frankly dont care what kind of posts you like or not. The truth is that this situation is a train wreck. Nothing was learned from MCC clearly. So it sounds like yet again 343 is gonna launch the game with obvious problems and missing features and then expect us to praise them forever once they finally put that stuff back in. Y’know, the stuff that they had in their previous games already. We wont even get a bare minimum progression system but they sure as hell will have that store ready for us to spend money on, on top of the likely generic battle pass.
For the record I too do not like being this negative. This was my most anticipated game of the year. Now? That excitement is shattered, destroyed by such blatant incompetence. There are so many other developers out there that were able to make stuff like this work. I mentioned Splitgate. That game, while not having some big campaign, was made in by like 4 people. Why were they able to make a bare minimum progression system and 343, a team of apparently 750 people just couldn’t? Theres no excuse for this.
For the time being after Infinite launches, I will simply continue to give my time and (where applicable) money to Splitgate to support developers that aren’t stuck in 2005. I say this because it is brutal honesty. 343 is shooting their own feet with this. This is such a massively crowded market with far too many options. They need to bring their A-game or fail. Sadly they likely know they have the Halo name as a shield so they can be incompetent as they please and still be successful. I am not going to sit idly by and have zero standards. I can’t for the life of me figure out why in the gaming industry we apparently are supposed to have no standards at all and act like the developers are poor slave workers barely squeaking by. No, these are hundreds upon hundreds of trained profressionals and apparently not a single one has raised their hand and said “Yeah, um, guys? We really should have a bare minimum progression system for launch.” This is their job, this is what they trained for years to do. There are so many games coming out this holiday and this less than bare minimum effort ain’t gonna cut it Jack.
