A well done H5 skill jumping video

Source video

One of the few halo videos I’ve seen in a long time going over in game mechanics in quality. Plenty of information that I didn’t know after years of playing h5.

TL:DW ShyWay adds to a community discussion explaining how and why clamber isn’t just “making jumps easier” but rather open up jump combos that can save players in gunfights and power positions.

i don’t promote videos often but I enjoyed how informational this one was.

I should probably add to support all 3 youtubers here as we are all halo fans

This video is a much better defense of thrust and stabilize than it is a defense of clamber. The clamber is not the skillful part of the jump, it is the timing of the jump, crouch, stabilize, and thrust that are the interesting. Animation canceling is not unique to clamber, faking out other players is not unique to clamber.

The best example he gives are the jumps involving overhangs and even then it isn’t a problem that couldn’t be solved by adding even more skill jumps along with some map scaling and beyond that there is a more broad discussion of whether players should be able to take that route and if so why does it need to happen in such an indirect fashion? As per usual there is no real response to the role map scaling plays in making clamber a necessity rather than simply being another “option”

Nitpicking about how death is not the most common consequence of missing a jump doesn’t do him any favors especially when the other consequences he mentions such as time loss and loss of positioning are so much more impactful than .8 seconds of downtime.

Ultimately it is just a video showcasing cool jumps in Halo 5, but the clambering was never the cool part of said jumps…

Although the clamber mechanic has really no point and is almost inconsequential in everyday gameplay, there’s always the added challenge for some people to cut clamber out of jumps in the game, but I’m pretty much the only one that does that tbh. Now although animation cancelling isn’t exclusive to clamber, the idea wasn’t to say that it’s the only way. The nade-clamber, which he extensively talks about and is likely what you are aiming at isn’t a matter of it being exclusive but rather a matter of being efficient. Clamber’s .8 seconds is .8 seconds you’re not doing anything, so throwing a grenade and overriding the animation is mostly just filling up wasted time.

Clamber isn’t required if the maps are scaled well and clamber functions closer to a vault, in fact the animation is actually closest to a step-vault so it just makes sense, as opposed to an all purpose climb up. Clamber really doesn’t have a very strong argument on either side so it’s not really unfair to point out the fact that clamber doesn’t really save you from death all the time because maps don’t really like to allow that. The small nitpick on Favyn’s statement about dying if clamber isn’t there is pretty well stated but if more people know what they can do, falling and losing position isn’t always a problem.
