A weapon not well known: The MA5K Carbine

Anybody who has seen or read the Halo novel Ghosts of Onyx knows what the MA5K Carbine is. The question I have is should it finally makes it’s due appearance in the shooters? My answer, you guessed it, is yes.

While some could accurately argue “what makes it different from the MA5D Assault rifle in function?”, I would argue it would allow you to move faster with it in exchange for a decrease in damage but it carries on the bigger magazines that the MA5B models had.

Thanks for reading, and please vote and tell why.

This is for those who don’t know what this gun is:

Here is some fan-art I’ve done for the MA5K:

MA5K-A Model

MA5K-B Model

Maybe have it be like the LR but differently. It’s fully automatic but when scoped allows a 3/2 shot burst.

In Halo Custom Edition, CMT did a great job with the MA5K. If I remember correctly, it had a slower rate of fire at first with decent accuracy, but then sped up and became less accurate as you held down the trigger. You can sort of see it in action here.

I would love to see a version of the MA5K similar to that one appear in future Halo games. I loved that weapon to death, back in the day.

I would love to have this weapon.

Although, I think the reason 343i would not add it is because we already have a carbine, the Covenant Carbine, and some players may get confused between the two.

But maybe they can just call it the MA5K.

True. I always thought just “Carbine” never fit the Covenant Rifle though, as few can see what it is a carbine of (obviously the beam rifle). IMO the Covie Carbine should be renamed the “Beam Carbine” to reference what it is a derivative of.

If the MA5K isn’t in Halo 5, or doesn’t behave like the CMT version, I will be sad. Hopefully 343i gets the obvious idea of allowing weapon changes to be done through Custom Game settings, because then I can remake its properties if it’s not in the game.

Edit: That video didn’t show the semi-auto functionality of it. Why did they not show that, when that’s the keystone unique feature of the weapon?

I’d rather save the developer’s time for something a little more unique in function.

If all is balanced

Meh. It doesn’t really appeal to me, as it has less stopping power and a smaller magazine size (30) in comparison to the MA5D (Assault Rifle). It makes sense in canon/storytelling purposes, as it has a lighter frame for more maneuverability, but that doesn’t really come into play in-game. There wouldn’t be very much to distinguish this weapon apart from the AR, so I don’t think it would be that great of an addition.

I’d prefer to have the M7S (from ODST) return, this time as an on-map weapon. It is greatly differentiated from the Assault Rifle by its inclusion of a smart-link scope (thus greater effective range), a larger magazine size, and a faster rate-of-fire. It held a unique niche between the AR and BR (and I think it would make quite a lot of ODST fans happy as well).

Agreed! The MA5K was definitely my favourite weapon that CMT has ever made, even though it’s ancient compared to their newer stuff. I’ve always wondered why it never appeared in a Halo game, and when there was word of an “Assault Carbine” in Halo 4 (which later had a name change to become the Storm Rifle), I was really hoping for it to be the MA5K.

^
That would just add the the whole balance issue with weapons, as much as I liked it.

I never liked the way it looked so no.

I’ve always wanted to use the MA5K ever since I saw it on the cover of Ghosts of Onyx.

The CMT version sounds freaking awesome, and if balanced right, would work very excellently.

I’ve always wanted to use the MA5K, but make the CMT version and I’m sold.

When I played on Halo CE with the gun I really did love it. It worked similar to the Halo CE Plasma Rifle, or the Halo 3 Turret, but it wasn’t a support weapon so it could actually hold its ground.

Like I said, if there’s a way to modify weapon settings in Halo 5, I’ll happily remake it if it isn’t already there.

?

The Covenant Carbine utilizes an entirely different weapon technology than the Beam Rifle.

If anything, the Carbine is a derivative of the Fuel Rod Gun.
