Stumbled upon this video today. An interesting viewpoint on Halo 5 and the direction of the Halo franchise as a whole. Message makes a lot of sense, but it’s rather grim. Anyway check it out:

Well that sucks…Guess Halo is doomed to failure then. For the part where he speaks about Cortana though, all i have to say is: Where’s DecepticonCobra? lmaoooo

I posted in the video explaining why he was wrong. Don’t much care for the rest of the video.

Not much of a MP guy huh? But where’s your comment, i don’t see it on the video, if thats what you mean?
I actually disagree with him in some parts. He says that “n00bs” can’t be good at Halo and thats why they don’t play. Comparison to Call of Duty making everybody feel like a hero is somewhat right, but the real problem with Halo is not the “n00bs” but rather the experienced players responding to them. They’re too focused on dominating the game and preventing the other team from doing anything. Being good is one thing, but many players will simply hold out objectives for kills and even spawncamp with all vehicles on the map. If they want people to get better, then why are they not letting them actually learn how to get better? Instead they’re focusing too much on keeping them down rather then letting them build up. He spends his time only refering to them as “n00bs”.
Also, I find it funny how he’s talking like how Capcom is currently talking about the Resident Evil fanbase. That they’re all too busy with a job or with college and can’t play Halo that much. But then he goes on to say that 343i is designing Halo to appeal to those players who don’t have the time to get good at the game. But, shouldn’t that be the other way round? Making the game easy to appeal to people in their thirties who don’t have the time to get good at the game while all the kids have too much time to be good at the game?

Hahaha yeah i agree. The only legitimate thing i found in the video was the bullet magnetism, high aim assist, and that Halo’s new direction is here to stay…thats all. The part where he talks about Cortana, was just head-ache inducing btw.
So he opens the video and says he can’t understand why Johnson came back in Halo 2.
But then goes on to say that he’s read the books and stuff.
He either lied about reading the books, or he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
I couldn’t take the rest of the video seriously after that.

FACE PALM
I was actually looking for feedback regarding the multiplayer which he talks about for 12 minutes instead of the campaign for 30 seconds, but regardless, thanks for the input. Assuming most of the MP veterans have moved on to other things!

His point was that Halo multiplayer is harder so it takes MORE time to get good at, meaning the new generation are not going to stick around and get owned by the veterans when they can jump on COD and start owning from day 1. I don’t understand what you meant when you said " but the real problem with Halo is not the “n00bs” but rather the experienced players responding to them" so would be good if you could clarify that!

30 year olds that haven’t played Halo before are not going to pick up Halo for the first time. The 30 year olds that ARE going to pick up Halo, are the ones that have played it over the years and are ALREADY good at the game (i.e. don’t need to spend hours learning). Like he said, they “trying to attract a new fanbase”.
I completely agree with the video. We don’t know what direction Halo 5 is going in so I can’t say it’s dead until I see it. If 343i continues to go in this direction then Halo is doomed.

We know why Johnson escaped in a pelican in the books, but it’s still a plothole in the game series that was rewritten. They flood could not control his mind due to his Boren’s Syndrome blah blah blah. I don’t like these cop outs. Treyarch did the exact same thing with their zombies mode in the map Origins. Completely ruined everything for me. I wouldn’t say this was as big of an issue though. I just don’t like the concept of it.

How about re-posting your comment here since it doesn’t appear to be in the videos comment section?

Cortana has been confirmed dead about four times now. Johnson wasn’t just magically brought back to life, the Halo Graphic Novel shows him fighting out of the Flood containment facility and the book First Strike explains that he and a few other survivors left the Halo ring in a Pelican and hid by the planet Threshold’s nearby moon until the Chief and his Longsword met with them. They subsequently hijacked a Covenant flagship and the rest is in the book, I won’t spoil the rest.
Cortana sacrificed herself to save the Chief. She even says as much. No doubt he will look for her and try to revive her, but it isn’t going to be successful. Please, do a little more research. I know a lot of people want Cortana back, but rambling on with some scatterbrained jargon that sounds like it makes sense, but doesn’t, isn’t the way to go

Ok. Personally, I already know all of that more or less as I’ve read it many times over in forums (Old bungie and waypoint). I still see it as them rewriting and changing things although some may disagree. That was such a small part to his video though. He talked about Cortana for about 30 seconds. The title of his video was mostly on his multiplayer feelings. I’m not sure you watched the entire video or just left after you disagreed with that one point. His video was mostly about how the game is being changed specifically to curb the skillgap so younger players can enjoy multiplayer more without learning the game.

I’m guessing they originally wanted to have him killed, but then realised how popular he was, so they re-wrote it. I’m one of the people who haven’t read the books, so this is extremely frustrating for me. Anything i do know is from Halopedia, unfortunately.
The problem with his argument is that no one plays Halo 4 anymore. What happened to that so-called children audience?
Competitive Halo wasn’t even THAT long ago. Halo 3 was second in Xbox activity till August 2010. Even after Reach Halo 3 was still in the top ten for a couple years.
Ummm…I just tested the “bullet magnetism”… it was not that strong…soooo…yeah -_-
reclick the video you shall not be disappointed. Also the first 30 sec was meh. However Halo 4 does get boring after playing for a little.
> Ummm…I just tested the “bullet magnetism”… it was not that strong…soooo…yeah -_-
I was just playing Halo 4 before, and although its not THAT strong, its still there. The high aim assist makes strafing utterly useless, and i find that dying happens so much more quickly compared to past Halo games. Its so random; there are some games where i dominate, and others where i feel like a noob. Not sure is this is natural, but its annoying.
