So I have recently started on the forums again, (first time since Bungie was head of Halo). I have noticed quite a troubling thing in my mind, now we all have out own respective opinions on Halo 4, and while many choices that 343 made are not being taken well by the community, I am (like some others) bothered with the lack of positivity about Halo 4.
So here’s the simple question; what did 343 do right with Halo 4? What do you like about it?
Cortana’s character design was excellent and they brought the BR back.
…and that’s all I can think of.
A few aspects of multiplayer, Campaign was amazing. Sound design was great, graphics are pretty good for the most part. There are little things here and there that they did alright with, but the cons outway the pros big time.
They brought back the BR and thats about it.
Good Graphics.
343 made the Marines complete dip–Yoink-, in behavior, in-game dialogue, and in aesthetic looks.
I hated that at first. But now I realize its a good thing because now I don’t care about their mortality in the Campaign.
I’ve never hit the REVERT TO SAVED, button once.
The Soundtrack sucked. Generic Hollywood movie music.
-They brought weapons like the BR and Beam rifle back.
-They made Forward unto Dawn which I enjoyed and was great hype for Halo 4.
-They returned the armory to a more Halo 3 style where you’re not forced to mix and match if you don’t want and have given us full sets.
-We have Flood in MM. Which was something we’ve been asking for a long time.
-AAs like the Thruster pack, Regen field and Auto sentry were introduced with no major problems which is impressive.
-Despite the fact that I don’t like the idea of Tactical packages and Support upgrades they haven’t caused any major problems.
-We FINALLY saw a Forerunner.
-I as a SIV exists in the Universe.
-The Rocket hog is much better.
-The Majestic map pack is by far my favorite Halo map pack of all time.
-We got florescent visors.
-We customize all the metallic parts of our armor and we don’t just have attachments to already existing armor.
-They have brought Griffball into the spotlight even more.
-I enjoy the new game types Dominion and Extraction.
-The Flagnum and Ball throwing mechanics were very innovative along with Flag and Ball assassinations.
-We’ve wanted a mech ever since we saw the Cyclops in halo wars and 343 delivered.
-This game is absolutely beautiful.
-This game grasps the emotional aspect way more than past games easy.
-They introduced characters like Lasky and Thorn.
-They’ve made all the rifles viable options. Ar, BR, Carbine etc.
-Me and my friends really enjoyed playing S ops together but that’s just me.
-The new Foge textures were refreshing.
-They gave us Forge island. They didn’t have to do that and it was free of charge.
I could go on.

Argg me maties! Thread hijacked!

That is such a troll thing to say. The soundtrack was amazing.
They did everything right for their 1st try.
The only things I didn’t like was flood at 1st, the DMR to this day still ( DMR OP) spawning with plasma nades and pistols. Forge is awesome, campaign was the best I’ve seen, spartan ops had a crazy ending, and matchmaking is fun hence the 16 days i have played lol
Refer to MEGA66 CQC post above…I agree!

No, the soundtrack is awful. It doesn’t feel like Halo even slightly. The only tracks that are passable are revisions of music from past games and like 1 or 2 of the new ones out of like 40 tracks.
They NEED to bring back the classic Halo menu theme at the bare minimum. That theme IS Halo and without it a piece of the game is missing.
Bring this back. End of story.
I simply Love Halo 4, no explanation required.
Well it’s the first Halo to actually run in Native 720p so I guess they did that right.

Ditto.
H4 has issues, but in my opinion, most of the hating is over-the-top. I love the game.
I think a lot of people here will point to x or y reason, but I think it really boils down to 343i’s biggest innovations (if you could call them that–more like copies of CoD features) with Halo 4: perks, custom loadouts, and Personal Ordinance (killstreaks).
These features were, of course, put into place to help players play the way they want to play, whether the they like vehicles, power weapons, movement, etc. They did a good job, but it inserts a CoD-like randomness and unplannability (yes, I know that’s not a word) that most seasoned Halo players feel do not belong in Halo. This is why much of the community was disappointed with the multiplayer.
I would also add a severe lack of fun maps. Including every DLC (which very few people bought), I enjoy only 9 out of 23. And even those 9 maps I wouldn’t consider as fun as the previous Halos; I had to learn to enjoy them because it’s what I had. That’s just me though.
Don’t get me wrong–Halo 4 itself is a great game, and the campaign was the best yet. However, I believe the multiplayer is only as successful as it is due to gameplay that Bungie had already established in previous Halos.
> I would also add a severe lack of fun maps.
Along with echoing MegaCQC’s good stuff, I will also echo this criticism. All of the maps could be improved - most could be improved significantly. Especially the BTB maps. Most are way too convoluted, resulting in much of the play area being unused.
The sandbox is overall more balanced, even if redundant in a lot of spots.
The game has a precise utility weapon, even if it could use some work. The only limitation to the DMR is your own capability to aim.
I didn’t like the Mantis at first, but its grown on me.
They brought back the Rocket Hog, always a good addition.
The FoV is wider, but doesn’t work properly on all TV’s. Needs fixed.
The Music and Art Style are vastly different, but aren’t bad. I like some of the new weapon designs, like the Carbine and DMR.
Loadouts aren’t inherently bad as a concept, and weapon skins are nice. The issue is loadouts have way to many options, and many of those options are imbalanced.
The game has a faster pace, even though the inclusion of sprint isn’t ideal. I’m glad they decided to not keep the slow play of Halo 3 and Halo Reach.
To me personally this feels like the most team oriented Halo yet. Growing up with a twin brother you play a lot of team and co-op games together.
-Personally, with the inclusion of various load outs and AAs we can do different things and work together as this big steam operated pwn train, then ever before.
-I love the remix version of the H4 OST.
-Join in progress for me has been a positive thing as it has allowed my friends with awkward connections to rejoin matches we’ve already started.
-The post release support has been great thus far and I hope it continues
They finally made the Campaign relate to the books more! Halo 4 has had one of my favorite Campaigns, and Campaign being the only thing I care about I thought 343 did a damn good job, compared to Halo 3, Halo 4 was amazing, Halo 3 did not live up to its full potential as a campaign
Also we finally get to see a Forerunner!
For me it’s all couched in the caveat that nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement. But in Halo 4 I feel the following were great contributions to the franchise, even if they aren’t yet perfectly tuned.
[/li]- Loadouts
- Armor abilities
- Sound FX
- Dominion
- Mantis
- JIP
Sure, each has faults (some more than others) but I think they’re all positive contributions to the franchise and will give plenty of quality gameplay if incorporated properly into the next Halo.
