So I was thinking. Slayer has always been the most popular game type (I’m talking FFA, Team Slayer, BTB, Infinity Slayer) and how to improve it. Or at least create a new variation of it. Something that came to mind is a version of team slayer that revolved around a pool of lives instead of a score counter. Think of something like Gears of War 3. To me, that was the best addition to MP (and a horrible disappointment when they scrapped that for Judgement.) But does anyone else think this is something that could work with Halo?
For a standard Team Slayer I was thinking a pool of 30 lives per team while BTB has 60. For BF fans think of the ticket system for modes like Rush. But once the lives are depleted, each player has no lives left, and once all the players are dead, they lose (this idea was also influenced by when you control all the points in Dominion.)
For names I was thinking of Spawn Slayer, or Team Spawn or Countdown. ANyone have any ideas?

I don’t like the idea of other people (especially with no ranking system) using and wasting my lifes. I don’t want to lose because someone on my own team prevents my re-spawn.
Having never played Gears of War 3 or Battlefield, this is a little unclear to me. What do you mean exactly? Does each player have a specific number of lives or does the team just have a pool of lives?
If it is the latter, we essentially have the same exact thing as we do now, except the score counts down instead of up. But giving each team member X number of lives could put more emphasis on staying alive instead of just running around and getting kills.
For standard Team Slayer (4v4) however, we would need to choose a number evenly divisible by 4. 40 or 60 seems good.
I think a 4v4 gametype where each players have 3 lives would be fun
It sounds like Conquest from Star Wars Battlefront.
I would love to play in Halo.

In Team Deathmatch in Gears of War 3 each team has a pool of 15 lives. Every time someone on your team dies, your pool of lives decreases byone. When all of the team lives have been defeated, each player on the team has one life left, when they die, they stay dead. The goal is to deplete the enemy team’s pool of lives until they each have one left and then kill them all.
Uhhhh how about in 4 vs 4 to 60 (example), lives are split among each teammate.
So 60 / 4 = 15.
Player A dies 15 times in a row and goes 0-15, he can no longer re-spawn.
Player B, C, D can continue to re-spawn as long as they haven’t exhausted their own reserve of 15 lives.
The only thing this some what stops are those guys that die 20+ times a game from essentially letting the other team win.
Each player gets 15 lives, last team standing wins.
A variation with lives split between individual teammates could be interesting.
Counterstrike it?
How about one or two lives each round for several rounds? With Assault.
To those suggesting individual lives, I have one question for you, because I have thought of it.How would this not be problematic with JIP? Would the player who joined be given the same amount of lives as the person who left? Seems somewhat unfair for them.

Is that really any better than having a noob on your team regardless? For example, in BTB there always seems to be that one guy who ends with a K/D of 2 kills with 15 deaths. Regardless with whether or not it’s a life counter or point score, that would effect your chances of winning/losing.
