A true fan of Halo.

Hello, compelled by my desire to Enjoy (I am hesitating, but save just might be more appropriate) sleeplessness (too many DewXP bottles), and some very melancholy TV shows, I am here to state something that has been on my mind:

The definition of a true fan of Halo.

In my eyes:

A true fan of Halo likes everything about Halo. A true fan of Halo will take the story, and expanded universe, and find something they like about it. A true Fan of Halo will take the Games core mechanics to heart, and enjoy them. A true fan of Halo will look at every core aspect of the game, (Custom Games, Forge, Theatre.), The ability to make Halo to one’s own desires with the blessings of the developers.

A true Halo fan would never focus solely on one aspect of the Game. A true Halo fan does not like Halo because that is the game that their K/D is best in. A true Halo fan can be any age, and respects the Universe that has been created here. A true halo fan does not view other ‘Casual’ or ‘MLG’ players as a scourge, but as a fellow player of the game. A true Halo fan would respect his/her community, EVEN IF they do not respect him/her in return.

A true fan does not complain just to complain, but works towards making Halo a better place for everyone. A true fan never abandons his/her game just because they do not like the changes, but Instead, voices their opinion because they think their Ideas make Halo a better place for all.

A true Halo fan never JUST played since CE. No, a true halo fan has actively voiced something constructive to make his and others’ time on the game more enjoyable. A true Halo fan would make sure that the developers knew anything they could improve.

And lastly, a True Halo fan never gives up and says: “It’s Just another CoD clone.”

In closing, I have not necessarily been a true halo fan myself, But I am seeing people who, even though they have jobs and families now, continue to believe that Halo can ALWAYS be better. I see men and women who, in spite of the fact it is 'Just a game’continue to watch the Halo they planted the seeds with in 2000 grow. I am seeing people, who know that what is going on is NOT right, be taunted and jeered for ‘Stopping Halo from Growing up.’ I am seeing the true Halo fans say that we can grow but still be Halo, that growing up does NOT have to mean we arrive at the same conclusion as many other people: that CoD is the only way. This may be JUST a game, But what I have learned from this community has helped me in my own Personal and social life, and It sickens me to see people claim to true fans, and turn way at the drop of a hat.

I think you, All you TRUE Halo fans, for making these last years enjoyable. I’ve had some memorable moments, some on halo 3, others on Halo 2, still others on CE, and I have no one to thank for this except those who sought to make the game a better place.

I may not be a 100% true halo fan, but I am inspired by those that are:

TL:DR A true Halo fan makes Halo better for themselves and those around them in any way they can whenever they can.

7hanks.

Youre welcome?

You did well! I would like to consider myself a true Halo fan. Though in your definition I touched everything but community outreach, which is on and off.

Personally, I believe a true fan of Halo will buy the game, play it alone or with friends, and play ALL of it mind you, and have a blast. A 100% TRUE fan of Halo liked Halo Wars additional story (Not necessarily the game) and appreciates the fact that believe it or not, Halo has one of the largest universes in the entertainment world.

Aye, not only that, but one of the most consistent thus far!

Amen but alas it only takes a word of an idiot to ruin this moment

And many a word of an idiot has been spoken, but don’t let that get you down.

So a true Halo fan cannot criticize a Halo game what so ever? I’ve been playing the game since 2001 but never would I ever be so bold as to define what a fan is what it isn’t.

More importantly than a true fan of Halo, I am a consumer and I have every right in the world to review any aspect of the products I buy however minor they may be and, if my concerns are legitimate, make my voice heard to the developer. What you are describing is blind fanboyism and just accepting what’s given and loving it because it says Halo™ on the box art.

Does this post offend you? I respect your right to complain, but outright animosity to someone based on THEIR opinion? Holy crap man, that is ridiculous.

I agree almost entirely, except that I think fandom is something one defines for themselves, and does not allow others to define. I consider myself a fan of Halo because I truly love its fictional universe, have genuinely cherished memories of playing it with close friends, and find myself absorbed by it more than just about any other fictional universe in gaming (the other being Elder Scrolls.) My birthday is coming up, and everyone in my life knows the only thing I want is The Thursday War lol. I plan to curl up with some coffee and read it during evenings.

I also consider myself a fan because of the deep, genuine emotions it stirs in me. Halo 4’s ending didn’t affect me so powerfully just within its fictional context, but because of the change to something that has been such a reliable mainstay of my real life for 11 years that it represented.

I don’t do the community outreach thing because with rare exceptions, I shy away from online communities now. GameFAQs killed my love of online gaming communities, to be quite honest. The whole internet just seems rife with trolls, and people who derive personal satisfaction and entertainment from making others miserable.

But that doesn’t mean I love Halo any less.

I agree with everything else you said in principle at least, though. And it’s awesome to see a positive topic for a change, while also allowing for constructive criticism. Peace.

Hold on now, I never said you have no right to criticize the game.

I said that a true halo fan will always try to make the game a better place. I believe that a true Halo fan wouldn’t care how popular/unpopular a suggestion was as long is it made the game a better more fun, and enjoyable place for not just the person proposing the change/ making the criticism/ etc. but others who play the game as well.

And I am glad that I’m not the only one emotionally connected to Halo. I am also happy to see such positive responses from people, even if they don’t entirely agree. I truly enjoy your input, It makes me feel as though I have made a difference for someone, videogame or not.

To add on to what OP said. If someone’s definition of fan doesn’t fit you, or offends you, ignore it. As said a fan is something YOU define for YOURSELF. I just happen to AGREE with OP’s OPINION. A definition of fan should not offend anyone at all unless it attacks them like (Casual/Hardocres are the scum of the Earth)

Again, all because it says Halo on the cover. If your local politician made some radical changes to his policy that you didn’t agree with would you still vote for him just so the people who do like it would get their guy in office? Blind allegiance does not make anyone a true fan of anything.

> Amen but alas it only takes a word of an idiot to ruin this moment

I LIKE CEREAL!

i like chocolate milk :3

Even though I respect everyone’s point of view on what constitutes a true halo fan, it is subjective. What makes a true halo fan for you might not necessarily make a true halo fan for me. For example I consider a true halo fan someone who has played and loved each single halo, including reach as well as read all the books , Is great at the game meaning has great kd over 2.0 , And on top of all of that Posts on Halo forums about the game and how to get better at it.

… But that’s just me.

I understand what you are saying.

I understand what you mean, as well. However, not simply because it says Halo on the cover, but because there is emotion, whatever it is, generated from it consistently. I am not saying That the changes have to be physical either. (Physical as far as in-game, of course.) There may be mental changes, I realized in another thread that I was no longer having fun, and I made a mental change that I would have fun from now on. I felt this was the best course of action for not only me, but those around me and those who played the game with me.

And SEAN, I am glad that you have your own definition of a true fan. If everyone were to uphold their definition (or at least try to) these forums, and the games, would be better places.

I guess the 2.0 K/D helps too, huh? :stuck_out_tongue:

A proper Halo fan retains his individuality and does not sell out to popular opinion, developers, etc. unless it’s actually worthwhile.

A proper Halo fan has ventured into many categories of Halo gaming.

A proper Halo fan doesn’t need online incentives. He plays whenever he wants.

A proper Halo fan does not stop playing because he didn’t enjoy the game. One should never give up on a game. If it’s not enjoyable, try to change it yourself. I see so many posts saying ‘if you don’t like it don’t play it’, it’s very aggravating. I didn’t like Halo 2, 3, or Reach but I was able to bend them to my will. Halo 4 will be the same, tamable.

you remember E3 2011

only a true Halo fan got this special feeling after this clip

Thankyou…

Dude, did you even read the OP?

And that whole “I’m th’ consumer and I have every right to nitpick everythang down to th’ atom!” is arrogant, old, and ignorant

At true fan doesn’t blindly love something and always trys to make it better. That is a true fan.
