"A TOUCH OF ROMANCE"????

>>> !!! IMPORTANT !!! <<<

I was browsing wikipedia today for some information regarding Halo 4 when I came acorss quotations from Neil Davidge mentioning that he will add “A touch of romance” to the score for Halo 4. Am I the only individual who is beyond scared? My heart instantaneously slumped into my stomach and felt like it was 117 lbs. Granted, this is from wikipedia and could possibly have plenty of biases in there with false info, I had to put this up here as soon as I could. If anything, this “romance” better be associated with the Didact and Librarian or I think I may cry an ocean of tears.

(I’m not sure of the policy for having links to other sources. With that said, simply type in “Halo 4” in the wikipedia bar and you’ll find this quote in the “DEVELOPMENT” section of the page toward the bottom.)

Feel free to post your replies and opinions on this matter. I’m pretty sure that I can speak on behalf of the Halo community that if there is going to be romance at all featured in Halo 4, it better be done correctly, and carefully. VERY carefully…

(Didact and Librarian)???

Relax, he is adding romance to the music… That could honestly mean anything. Don’t read too much into things.

If done correctly it would be a great addition. (IMO) I don’t see why it would be a bad idea, he’s basically trying to add more emotion to the game. If it IS true, then I can’t wait to see what its like.

I think he was referring to a “romantic style” of music that he was going to add in. Halo already has a “classical style” of music within it, and he meant he was going to add in “a touch of romantic style” music (probably meaning there will be emphasis on touches of violins, cellos, brass instruments, woodwinds, and sweeping crescendos by orchestras, etc.) throughout the soundtrack.

I just lol’d at the thought of a romance between Cortana and the Chief. There would be some awkward moments involving some peripheral devices.

trust me, MC and Cortana are going to get busy…

she is going to find a hard light projector, project her physical body, go up to the Chief and say “lets kick some -Yoink-” and they start fist fighting covenant.

it could mean a romance in many different relations.

Chief x Cortana (probably not as an attraction but more a strong bonding friendship)

Chief x Other Spartans (same as above)

Librarian x Didact

Player x Character

Player x Story

Musician x His own creation

In your dreams.

romance can mean many things

also…would it be so wrong if they had a platonic/virtual affair?

their relationship is surely deeper and more romantic than that of many established VG couples, remember the rescue scene in halo 3?

Yes, I may be reading into things too much but when I read that and also hear that 343 keeps emphasizing on the fact that they want to expand their relationship, logically speaking, Chief and Cortana have never been romantically inclined especially given who (and what) they are. It’s not in their “DNA” if you will, as characters to take that turn. By all means, yes, have character development with more dialogue and insight into thier thoughts according to their current situation, just don’t break that context of Chief and Cortana- one Spartan, one AI. Once you breach that foundation of two imprtant icons with critical roles, Halo isn’t Halo anymore. (I do realize Cortana is going through a down-spiral though with rampancy. That is the right direction.) I don’t want this to turn into a year 2557 “Notebook” story. For any reason romance is featured in Halo 4, that should be strictly reserved for the Didact and Librarian. (Read Cryptum).

Could possible also be between John and his child hood friend Parisa as another Halo Waypoint user pointed out in a thread a while back.

Wikipedia isn’t very reliable.

ODST had it and it worked fine, although the “girl” in question both acted and looked more like a male, then again, nothing wrong with that
I doubt we’ll see some Chief/random or even Cortana love games, but other important characters might very well get involved with each other.

As long as this touch of romance is just to add some extra emotion to the score, I’ll be fine with it. I just don’t want to see something like the Chief mashing his visor up against Cortana’s micro chip in some awkward make out scene.

They’re talking about music scores for goodness sakes. Romantic music. Not romance. Not even remotely close to the same thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

A hard light projector, eh? Will Cortana also have a big H on her forehead?

Well, I know he’s just talking about adding romance to the MUSIC, not necessarily the story, but I wouldn’t mind if John and Linda got a little closer. Ahem.

Romance, Baroque, Classical, Gothic, Renaissance… relax.

I don’t understand though why I’m the only one who seems to realize that the tone of music is supposed to be synchronized with situation. It’s supposed to convey and evoke the emotions you’re supposed to feel. Syncing the music and what is presented on the screen at the same time is what makes the effect “EFFECTIVE”. You can’t have random music that doesn’t match up with what’s happening on-screen.
