So, ever since last year in particular, it really seems that 343 as been listening to fan feedback and the returns have been overwhelmingly positive. But there is one I’m hoping Infinite wont have and that’s a campaign too similar to CE and/or to reliant on nostalgia.
My prime example of a way nostalgia as been pushed to far is the new star wars movies by Disney. The Force Awakens is such a close beat by beat copy of a New Hope that they might as well have rebooted the franchise.
So, in spite of the fact that I love everything we have seen so far, I’m really hoping that there’s enough new with the old, especially as far as the plot is concerned.
Agreed. As much as I like the trilogy, it isn’t like I want a 1:1 of 'em. I still would like to keep some of the major plot points the Reclaimer Saga has set up for the past 2 games as is, and I hope 343 brings them to light in this next game. Oddly enough, I feel somewhat more confident in their capability to provide us something new for Halo. They just haven’t succeeded recently.
Luckily, Halo Infinite feels like its gonna do much better for the fans than the previous two have.
I wouldn’t say that the campaign will be 1:1. However; since H4 copies many aspects of CE, H5 copies many aspects of H2, then I’m willing to bet that HI will copy many aspects of H3. I don’t see this as necessary a bad thing too, as the best stories are the ones told over and over.

This is kinda what I’m thinking. CE and H4 both had the Chief exit cryo, fight through a dying ship, and land on a mysterious installation. You even start off fighting one enemy, then about halfway through get introduced to another faction. H2 and H5 split the campaign between two protagonists and end on a cliff hanger. So it stands to reason that HI will probably take a lot of inspiration from H3 as well.

As OP explains, Force Awakens was kind of a rehash of New Hope.
So, what OP probably doesn’t want is:
-Defend yourself from invaders in space
-Crash on ring, be awed by it
-Rescue stranded NPCs
-Get to the control room
-Discover a plot twist horror
-Race to stop horror and AI
-Blow up ring

Yes, exactly. I’m not against the return of old themes and references to the old games, but there as to be a good balance between nostalgia and novelty for Infinite to really work well in my opinion.
The reason I asked is not because I don’t agree with you, I wanted to know specifically what kind of things you didn’t want to see. Some of the themes that were pointed out by Naqser are in the Halo main series games more than specifically in Halo CE, like landing on an unknown installation occupied by enemy forces (happens in every game but Reach and ODST) or getting attacked by enemies in space in the first mission (CE, 2, 4). Some of those themes are for sure going to come back though, since they are pretty much a staple in the saga (mission starting with a crashing pelican, anyone?). I wouldn’t mind a CE-like campaign honestly, but they would have to change and add a lot to make it interesting and up to today’s standards.

I would take playing as the Arbiter over Spartan Locke any day.

The right writing for a character can make the world of difference. If Echo-216 can have 5 minutes of screen time and be lauded, I don’t see an issue giving Locke some of the same writing.
Locke’s issue isn’t innately his character, but the lack of using his character.
I share the same concern, however they have insisted that it is not a soft-reboot and a continuation of the story so far. I expect some beats to be revisited, but I don’t think they’ll define the story of the game.
