Bear with me: A possible plot twist is that the humans in Cryptum are another species than us. A possible scenario that could happen is that humanity fights to the last, and this impresses the Forerunner so much that a group takes on the best traits of humanity and begins to call itself human.
This could be the reasoning, the secret history if you will, behind Truth’s statements to Johnson.

Sounds a bit far fetched. If only because it would take a very long time for the Forerunners to mutate in such away, even if induced by another like Born was.
The Forerunners wanted to exterminate the humans, they thought of us as a hostile and brute race… so yeah. I don’t think so. Sorry.

Lets not forget that the Forerunners that didnt completely hate ancient humanities guts, wouldnt give up what they had just to become like humanity.

Well… yes. The exception of the didact and the librarian.
> The Forerunners wanted to exterminate the humans, they thought of us as a hostile and brute race
And how often do known reports cover every single individuals opinion?

I greatly disagree with even the Diadact or the Librarian being willing to mutate themselves into becoming remotely close to human.
You are forgetting that the descriptions they give are vague at best. We could be self assigning the human image with those that we call human. The forerunner could look just like modern day humans. How would we know?

I never said that. Your getting me wrong here.
edit: Im a complete idiot, sorry, I totally read your post wrong. yes you are right. I thought you were talking about sympathizers, not forerunners giving up their forerunnerness to become humans

Well… exactly… I’m using what I’m giving in Cryptum. We are told the Librarian is sympathetic and the Didact thinks they are a worthy foe. I hate speculating but I’m sure there are at least a couple handfuls of forerunners that sympathize the humans. But it also says that the Forerunners look down on humans as ‘sub-human’ ( Lack of a better word, I really can’t think of the word right now, and its really late.)
For all we know is this for now. Hopefully Primordium will explain more, because it really is interesting.
lol you really posted the correct comment!

They see them as primitive and barbaric, I know. But the thing is, and I think we agree on this, we might not be getting the full view there. To put this in perspective, we commonly think that all people in the Middle East hate or strongly dislike America, right? Well, as we’ve seen there are a great many number of people who actually appreciate our troops, namely some of the people that I’ve seen in the recent rebellion in Libya. A touchy comparison, I know, but I see it as being the same thing.
Most of the Forerunners that we’ve read about greatly dislike Humans. But just as a president isn’t truly the voice of his people, the Forerunners that hate humans may not represent the greater whole. There could be some that see them as another being who deserves to live, and hold a basic respect for them, if not a sense of “love.”
I have my own theories on the Forerunners in relation to modern man, but I will likely do some further research, perhaps wait for Primordium to be released, and then perhaps post it.
Thats an entirely unneeded plot twist. The Forerunners look shockingly alike to us, but thats about it. We’re two seperate races created by the Precursors.
Then why are there so many insinuations to us being related directly?
> Thats an entirely unneeded plot twist. The Forerunners look shockingly alike to us, but thats about it. We’re two seperate races created by the Precursors.
And my theory is that the humanity in the book did entirely die out, and we are actually forerunner. So, you are correct that they are two genetically distinct races. I’m am saying we may not be the race we think we are.
It’s like how BSG ended…

Impossible. Its already been confirmed that humans were among the species that were found ‘worthy’ of being protected from the Halo system and that humans were on the Ark when the system was fired.

Seriously?
You are going to troll like that?

First off, with science fiction, nothing is “impossible.” You just don’t think it probable. Second, think on this;
What if the humans that Forerunners knew about (-Yoink!- neanderthalsis, florensis, idaltu, and the chamanune,) were - without her knowledge - somehow bred with a group of Forerunner human-sympathizers. The product of this would be modern man, -Yoink!- sapiens sapiens, and would be a “special” and more “wise” (the etymology meaning “Wise wise man”,) than the humans that Forerunners had known previous. So the Librarian finds these new humans on Earth, and recognizes how different and 'special" they are, and decides to catalog them into the Ark.

It’s spelled Obi WAN Kenobi.
