A Success or a Failure?

I’m going to start by saying this is my opinion, and I’ll respect yours if you respect mine.

Halo 4 is both a Triumph and a failure.

343 Industries is slowly killing a game that i hold dear to me. The covenant, in the 4 years Master Chief has slept, seem to have become all one race. there is no bold differences between jackal and elite any more, rather they are all the same scaly disgrace. I wish everyone reading this could have seen my face as i took down my 1st Halo 4 jackal and sat horrified at the differences 343 made… and this is only my 1st point

Multiplayer has become generic. The presence of loadouts gives an unfair advantage to veterans, which goes against what i always found to be one of Halo’s finer qualities. Halo “noobs” would always be able to start with the same AR as anyone else, and it was skill, not perks, that would clame the victor.

Now unlike most of my counterparts I am ok with the AA’s. I believe they add some freshness to the Halo franchise and they change around the combat situations. But i believe that Reach’s strategy was the best way to go.

Also, I believe that, while other Halo’s strove to keep the spartans looking like something made by the military, that every curve of their armor was made for a purpose, 343 has made a mockery of my beloved Spartans. The new armor is horrid, looking more like toys of a 6yr old rather than something drawn up by a military scientist. The overly athletic figure, and the “breakable” looks to these new toy figurines is saddening. Whereas even Reach made the spartans dignified and strong, looking like walking tanks, these new versions take away all the joys of truly believing that it was you under that armor, fighting the Covenant swarms.

To at least end on a good note, I applaud 343 on their ability to add to the Halo 4 storyline, I have just finished the campaign and I felt as it was an appropriate addition to the Halo storyline.

Finally I would like to say this is coming from a Die-hard Halo fan who has even went as far to enjoy not only the games, but the books and shows

Ahem There are copyright issues with the look of the covenat, this Bungie still holds the rights to them( for some reason) that’s why the game even has a hole new looks is just being slightly different they avoid copyright issues and can keep on keeping on. I want to hear more on them even why there rampit now, why happened to the alliance and what happened to the arbiter.

Loadouts …EHtrows hands up I like having different AA and different guns, the perks…can just go.

I like the new armor…nothing more

Also thank you for posting something that isnt complete -Yoink!-

To me, it was a success, and a much needed change. Reach was just rediculously slow with crap-tastic weapons that can’t kill fast enough.

The weapons have been changed to fulfill specific range requirements. If you know what range the weapons are, you will always kill your enemies with it so long as you know what they got, and what you can do with what you got. I am downing players with DMRs with Magnums with the use of cover and strafing. I am closing gaps and killing players with Assault Rifles, clever use of jumping and sprint. I am giving my teammates supporting fire using the Light Rifle’s increased damage when scoped. Nowhere has this game become generic.

Know your weapons, know the map and know how to move in them, and you’ll be owning in no time.

With all due respect, I have to disagree with you on the multiplayer part. I do not find this kind of gameplay in CoD, BF, or GoW.

For this reason i think halo should have stopped at Reach and just continued the lore Via Novels, Because no matter who made the game Halo 4 made by bungie or 343 would not have been good enough for anyone.

I enjoyed the game for the most part and i do not agree with you but i do respect your opinion. I have read all of the books bout when halo 3 first came out. So for me the plot of halo 4 was not confusing at all…but for the rest of halo fans and halo newbs they will not know what a lick of what the didik is saying. The “New spartans” Its so simple why they are so small… its just process they don’t have to be tanks GODs of the battle field like MC. His kind are long died there is a new breed and they are not the same because MC is a old model now but still the best. the Armour has changed every game so i was like meh it looks cool enough. to me there is no major problems with the game besides it was too short and long at the same time. so many times i would have to shut down 2 of the same thing first time was hard second time i do it its a bit easier. I also felt i was not ON the shield world long at all…i was out side for just like a lvl or two before i was in the coradoors of endless CQB.

Halo 5 will come out on the next xbox i feel the cilfhinger ending was too much when we have to wait till a new console comes out the play the next one… like halo 2 x.x

Oh my one big problem with halo 4…the never explain the “Mantle” I know what it is but they talked about it a few time and there is no way anyone could know bout that unless the read the books or just looked i up its a shame they would put soomething that lore filled and not explain for the people that would not know in any way

> The “New spartans” Its so simple why they are so small… its just process they don’t have to be tanks GODs of the battle field like MC.

Like I’ve said, I’ve read all the books and can tell you the ins and outs from the Orion project to the 4’s. But they look ridiculous. Spartans in previous Halo’s filled out their armor, standing strong, these look too skinny, without the muscle of a roided human death machine, they have the look of a cross-country runner parading around in plastic armor.

> Know your weapons, know the map and know how to move in them, and you’ll be owning in no time.

I appreciate your opinion Pain, but you must admit that the multiplayer is taking a negative turn. Between the Prometian oblideration cannon, the railgun, the rocket launcher, the sticky detonator, the Splaser, and the fuel rod, there is too many way to kill your opponents without a chance. Ive found that players have started to trash traditional power weapons like the sword and shotgun, because unless you camp a corner your torn to pieces by the Saw or the Sniper, (which with its faster rate of fire now might as well be an overpowered DMR)

The newer Spartans from what I can tell are like the Spartan III’s there mass trained and they have the same physic as the last ones.

Only played first 4 missions as of yet but Think it is the best so far story wise.
everything looked amazing but get what your saying about the jackals as never thought if it till now they did look very similar
to elites. when go to finish the game now i’ll be looking at them as though they are elites.
the only thing that bugged was the warthog sounded more like a go kart!!!

Have only played half of the campaign so far and to be honest that’s looking fairly solid so well done to 343i on that (Saving the rest of the campaign to do with a friend as a catch up). However, the multiplayer doesn’t have as much of a “Halo” feel to it anymore, it has everything there but too much of it, my main problem is with how many OHK weapons are now in MP, and how they can be obtained as a killstreak in one way or another, it takes away from the strategy of map control which was used more in previous Halo titles (Keeping on top of weapon spawns etc)

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, I only noticed it due to the new killcam feature but bullets hone onto your target similar to how the needler works. I’ll give you my situation as an example, I dropped from a higher location to a lower location, and on the killcam it showed the bullets follow me then my killer move his crosshair onto me afterwards, I’m not sure if this is a bug, lag compensation or just a glitch on the killcam (they seem to be a bit glitchy anyway)

Few other things that have been getting to me a bit whilst playing online:

Spawning in the middle of a firefight, it’s never nice to die, and then instantly spawn into another death

Ordnance boosts (Overshield, Speed increase, damage increase). Personally don’t see a need at all for Ordnance to be around, as I said above it takes away from map control and playing strategically.

Sprint. I’m currently 50/50 with this, it does make a nice addition to the game in the fact that it quickens the pace of the game, however it does make some OHK weapons extremely powerful compared to how they were before, some instances it’s impossible to escape, or fight against.

Lack of ammo. I’ve seen another post on here about how there’s no basic weapons dotted around the map anymore and how little the time is to pick up ammo/weapons from someone who just died.

Those are the main things getting to me, of course though it’s only early days so things like the above could get changed at a later date.

Whether or not Halo 4 is a success or failure is completely up to each individual person, but I’d say the game itself is a success, from someone who hasn’t yet finished the campaign and is only half way through it looks like it’s shaping up to be a good continuation of the original trilogy, at the minute the multiplayer is lacking just a little bit but that can be easily changed over time

Am I the only guy who likes halo 4 bottom to top?

I think the game is very successful, look how many copies sold… but I’m unhappy with the game thus far. If I was allowed to playtest this game before it came out, I would say “Not bad, you’re about half way to a full game”

The campaign is very disappointing for tons of reasons that I’m way to tired to get into now.

> Am I the only guy who likes halo 4 bottom to top?

Yep, and probly the only player that is legally blind. It’s like when you see food on a menu, it looks awesome. Then you see it on a plate in front of you, and you’re like “meh, that doesn’t look the the picture, but F it, I already ordered” so you try to enjoy it, but you end up unsatisfied when you leave.

> Am I the only guy who likes halo 4 bottom to top?

No, you’re not. It’s just that most of the people that like this game are playing it, not complaining on the forums.

Spoilers below take caution dont know how to use spoiler tags

The story was not very good at all imo, we see the didact for what like 1 minute in a cutscene then later he falls of a bridge. What the hell was this whole “ancient evil awakens” thing about, he was barely in the game, barely said anything, didnt even fight him.

All it was covies, prometheans, covies, prometheans then covie and prometheans. Barely any new human characters introduced and the new ones barely said or did anything. Where was the big scale battles that you told us about? We flew a pelican and a broad sword and barely did any fighting. Absolutely terrible story and very boring.

So Sorry 343 but your story telling was very bad, the story is the main reason i get each halo game but you couldnt do it this time. Now im very worried for Halo 5.

As for multiplayer its brilliant but i hope they add new playlists in later updates because it will get boring fast.

If you dont know how to use spoiler tags ask dont post spoilers…!

Remove “.” from the brackets.

I dont know how people can even compare this story to halo ce 1,2,3.
I think it was much better, first time since halo 3 that I was actually interested in what they were saying, way more attached to the characters, way more hate for other characters. The only problem with the campaign is it jumped around too much, with not enough explaining of what was going on.

The multiplayer is fun, very fun, it seems like everyone has better aim now…kind of irks me but whatever. I would not have wanted the same multiplayer as reach, but they do need a damn playlist with only sprint, no loudouts or perks and no armor abilities, called hardcore slayer. That alternates beetween slayer. slayer dmr and slayer br, for all the people who want this.

The MP is much smoother and while i can see where things need to be buffed (Buffing > Nerfing unless a mechanic is extremely broken then nerf is the way to go); it feels closer to Halo than Reach ever did. Especially the aiming code, which is much smoother and consistent even when your opponent isn’t facing you. Though Speed Boost and Sword is OP (lol crazy), the mechanics introduced in Reach are more refined and not as over-centralizing.

The Campaign was satisfying though i had some minor grievances (repetitiveness of Forerunner environments which i suspect was intentional due that being a trait of such art, Covenant not fleshed out enough in the main story, not enough screen time for The Didact).

Those arguing about the length when compared to past Halos need to realize there isn’t much in the way of backtracking or anything that breaks the flow through in Halo 4. There was much more focus here in going forwards and getting to the point. It’s something we are not used to IMO and i do not see the Campaign length as a weakness but as a strength.

I can’t say if it will affect replay-ability for other players; i can see myself going back though.
