A strange Halo 5 pre-order situation...

Hello denizens of waypoint…

I am posting for the first time here with an issue that I hope someone can provide some insight on.

Situation:

  • I don’t own Halo: MCC. - I am a member of the Xbox Live Preview Program. - I did not participate in the beta-test that opened up for the Preview users. - I pre-ordered a standard disc copy of Halo 5 through GameStop.Last night, Halo 5 began to automatically download to my XBOne. I was excited and in disbelief. The download was complete when I woke up this morning. The completed install was about 58gb, which I assume the correct size for the complete game (or maybe not). I checked my purchase history on the Xbox Store, and there is no record that indicates I pre-ordered the game. I also checked my pre-order information from GameStop, sure enough, it’s a retail disc copy that I reserved. Even if it was a digital copy, I know they don’t push downloads onto their customers’ machines, they just give you a code.

Not necessarily complaining, but I have to ask questions when something unexpected happens. And getting a free copy of Halo 5 is most definitely unexpected. Should I cancel my pre-order from GameStop? I can’t think of anything else that “I am a part of” that would earn me a copy of the game.

Any thoughts/insight would be appreciated!

That is… very odd. Have you checked if there are any other user accounts on your XBOX? Odd question, but check and see.

That is a dilemma.
I wouldn’t cancel. That’s just me. If you want, wait until the 27th. If everything is working fine call up GameStop and cancel. You have like a week or something.

Holy -Yoink-…!!! This was a major light bulb. My step-son has an account on the machine, and he just got his first job. I’m sure you can guess what he spent his first paycheck on. Explains everything.

Thanks everyone! Didn’t expect a response this quick.

Hehehe, I figured it was worth a shot. Glad that I was able to help!
