A step up?

Look, I know that Halo 5 isn’t out yet, and that it isn’t exactly “favored” by the community, but I will say this: In my opinion, this game is a BIG step up from Halo 4’s multiplayer.

The Boltshot, armor abilities, perks (yes I called them perks) are gone. In Halo 4’s multiplayer, I encountered Noob combo galore, and I hated it.

But in the beta, everyone had equal starts. Will this be the way it is in all gametypes? I don’t know. But I do know that if they keep equal starts like the beta, while it may not be exactly like the original trilogy, it’s still a step up from the crapfest that was Halo 4.

And from the looks of it, it shows that 343 is trying to improve what they last did…

Now I’m not saying pre-order it. I don’t trust pre-orders, but what I AM saying is that it seems like there’s an effort to learn from Halo 4, and that gets a point in my book.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.

I’m freaking stoked for h5g. I am actually struggling to find other games to play until it comes out, that’s how much I enjoyed the beta. I love where the campaign is going. Its so nice to have a plot other than “defend earth/reach.” The multiplayer seems to be shaping up quite nicely as well. I look forward to hearing from 343i what kind of changes they make to the final build from the beta’s collective data.

Not just you, it does seem like many of the errors committed by Halo 4 have been corrected. Though have the confirmed the loss of the Boltshot?

The only thing I’d ask them to add would be a slowdown effect to sprinters who are hit. It was there in Halo 4 and it kept the cat/mouse chases to a minimum, not sure why they’d remove that.

Honestly i have been playing halo 4 in the MCC, It’s regularly stable connection wise and legendary Slayer plays very close to classic halo., When i play with speed boost and Thrust is feels pretty close to halo 5, not the same halo5 played better but its close.

I’m alright with Halo 5. Give us good custom options I think the community could improve it even more.

Shooting seems harder than Halo 4.
Actually it feels pretty weird and inconsistent in difficulty, but I’ll go ahead and let it have this one.
Seriously, low aim assist and high magnetism? I’d argue that it should be the other way around.
Aim acceleration seemed a bit hefty from what I played, not as bad as Halo 3 but more than other Halo’s.

There’s a ton more visual and audio feedback.
New grenade pickup sounds, a shield regeneration indicator, a thruster pack recharge indicator, hitmarkers, hit sounds, so on.
This is a giant plus and an actual step in the right direction.
If only they would’ve tackled player visibility as well (sigh, Eden…)

Weapon nading is back but tied to plasmas.
Meh, better than nothing.

Weapon Balance was pretty tight. Pistol, BR, SMG all have well defined roles.
Other weapons are either upgrades or pretty meh.

Okay, I’ve said pretty much the only positives I had about the Beta.

In all other aspects, it’s practically the same as Halo 4 in concept and gameplay.
Same style, same mediocre map design, same modern gimmicks like ADS.

Sprint is “nerfed”, which is actually bad, because it just leaves players more cautious on the same giant maps and slows the game even more than before (sprint to safety, stand behind cover for a long period before finally re-entering the match. Alternatively, be too afraid to sprint across open spaces due to the shield penalty). They could’ve chosen any nerf, but they one they ended up with does more harm than good.

I wouldn’t call it a step up, but I wouldn’t call it worse either.

Seriously 343 seems to be listening tentatively, They removed Load outs(at least in the arena aspect), the gave use equal starts, they removed ordnance(at least in the arena aspect), Gave us static weapons spawns, They Nerf sprint (in a away that many fans said would be acceptable, this was said often before during and after halo 4 was release. “Tie it to shield make it so shields wont recharge”. Really I think they are doing a fantastic job. though it still amazes me that people are so jaded. “HUMP 343 doesn’t listen to use fans” Are you daft for dumb seriously they have done alot of great thing to make FANS happy.

I liked the beta. I still think there are things that must be corrected (bullet magnetism), but overall it was a good experience.

I loved it as well, I hope not much changes other than mainly Automatics being nerfed a tiny bit, the bullet magnetism being either drastically reduced or removed, and a few glitches being fixed. I also want to know about campaign, more about forge, more about… everything!

I don’t think the boltshot would be an issue without loadouts.

If it was a map pickup that would be fine.

I really liked it as well and feel the bullet magnetism could be toned down even more. Seriously looking forward to it.

On a slight side note, does anybody know if the beta ran P2P or on dedicated servers, and if they were servers were they all based in the US?

Its a step up from Halo 4, but at the same time it is a step back, or sideways.

All that has happened is that we have traded one set of incompatible “modern” mechanics namely loadouts/killstreaks, and replaced with another set of, IMO, incompatible mechanics. This time with the ‘mobility’ trend. Its not just Halo either, CoD seems to have had the same knee jerk reaction.

Did I like Halo 5 more than Halo 4? I guess in some ways, but Halo 5 has managed to create its own set of problems that keep me from enjoying it the way I did in past games. The last few years of Halo have been incredibly frustrating. X problem ends of getting fixed only to have new problems Y and Z added that we have to deal with. It just never ends.
