A stat to show skill?

Well, everybody hates k/d because, well, people “just want to have fun” and “was bad before but got good” (Trust me I know)

So I was thinking, what about a new system to show skill? With infinity slayer now, people earn points by doing just about anything right? So what if they had points being earned by everything you do in War Games (MM), not just infinity slayer, and then have this used as your skill level depiction?

It would be something like, “Amount of points earned per minute” and would be averaging, so you would be able to make it go up or down similar to k/d by doing well, but would be a better show of skill as it factors in everything such as assists and betrayals.

Sure, it has downsides, but compare it to k/d. K/d encourages: Playing playlists that give high kills, Camping, and boosting+hacks. The “score per minute” might encourage boosting or hacking, but we get rid of them anyways. It doesn’t encourage players to play stuff like infection. But it does encourage them to get out of camp spots and actually do more to help your team.

I think that’s a neat idea, but personally I don’t think you can ever make a number that is a ‘true’ indication of skill, and I think that should be reflected on a player’s stat page: no giant number/rank of any kind dominating the page.

Have stats, sure, I love stats, but I think its most important to make people remember that stats can’t tell you the whole picture. Personally I look at the 25 recent games for a good, but not perfect picture of my opponent. It shows me what they play and how the play (look at medals, do they play with the same teammates a lot, check ToD in each game, check playlist, etc.)

Don’t get me wrong, I think that you have a cool idea that is better than K/D on the whole, I just am reluctant to give any stat top bill on a player’s profile.

An updated BPR system would be the best in my opinion.
It’s way too easy to get to 100 as it is now. They should also show the BPR rating in the game.

I’m hoping the NEW Halo 4 ‘ranking system’ will give a good ‘overview’ of each players skill and then check stats for specific stats.

This I think will be optimal.
