I’m still new to this debate of no sprint v sprint and I had a thought of maybe a compromise and was curious of what the none sprinters and even pro spinners think. I’m all for sprint, shoulder charge ect all the rest, I like feeling like a bad -Yoink- and owning my opponents. But I feel like a middle ground is needed for those nostalgia bound and those pro evolution for a sensible outcome for both sides.
So here is my thoughts:
What if “sprint” was in the game but rather then it be click to engage it is the baseline/default movement. So walking would theoretically be running.
Now the speed could be whatever is deemed viable for players.
It’s would also need to look right and not like a dude just running in slow motion.
Included with this is the ability to “run and gun”. No need to stop movement to shoot.
Perhaps instead of the clamber mechanic and rather then a simple jump it was more of a leap. Jumping up and down is still a thing.
Keep in mind the sprint speed of movement is something that’s have to be worked out.
Im interested in other opinions on my suggestions and others own suggestions for a compromise. If you do respond please state which side you’re on or if you’re neutral.
okay so to clarify the speed going forward would be faster then backwards and left right. Left right would be faster then backwards.

Welcome to Halo 2 my friend. They nailed the high base movement. You were doing a sprint.

That wasn’t a sprint tho? That’s walking. At least looks like a walk and feels like one.

Halo 2 had the same base movement speed as Halo CE and Halo 3.

It was also faster than 5 with smaller maps. Need more cqc maps again.

None of them are a sprint baseline they’re still a walk maybe I wasn’t clear enough in my suggestion on the mechanic

No I understood, I was replying to ixCptBATTLExi. My idea would be to keep sprint how it is except your weapon stays up so that you can still run and gun. This is unlikely because of what we have seen in the demo but it is never too late to change it.

Oh okay sorry my bad, Now that I think about it I guess a modern interpretation of halo 2 multiplayer I could see some compromise come from that.
If halo infinite includes sprint (in the multiplayer), it’ll fail. Theres nothing that sprint can accomplish better than an increased FOV and faster BMS. Sprint is a useless, game breaking mechanic that is only included to try and attract new players from existing games like COD/Apex.

So one mechanic alone will destroy all of Halo, good to know.

Yep. Maps have obviously suffered because of it. Sprint breaks the golden triangle of halo.

I was hoping for suggestions on a compromise, I also don’t understand how you could say it’ll fail when it works in other games including the previous halos despite their smaller success. I also wouldn’t say it’s a useless mechanic. For myself it helps with immersion and adds a tier of difficulty. I’m an og player and find it refreshing.

Looks like Halo has been doing fine with sprint in it to me. Sprint was supposed to be in every Halo since Halo 2 but ended up being taken out for some reason. It seems to me like Halo finally got what was stripped in its previous titles. One mechanic in a game won’t kill an entire franchise.
Compromise is wonderful, but I’m pretty rigid about this subject. I enjoy the slower paced game-play Halo use to bring, especially now-a-days where every FPS is trying to implement advanced movement, they all start to feel the same. Even though what you are saying isn’t a sprint button, it sounds like you would like the movement to be like Quake and or Unreal Tournament, which I am also still against. The only time I was ok with a sprint in Halo, was in Reach, but would still rather have Halo 3 movement.
There is a mega-thread (224 pages and counting) on the topic of movement mechanics going forward. I recommend you post your thoughts on the subject there.
I also recommend you clarify a few things like whether or not this increase in base movement speed would be applicable to movement in all directions or just forward movement. Increasing BMS has been suggested many times, but less so with that caveat.
From what I saw their compromise was making sprint really slow. I like it.
The compromise is that you accept it and that this has been halo since Reach

Nostalgia and pro evolution are not mutually exclusive. Many people want no sprint because of its effects on gameplay, not purely nostalgia. Just because they don’t want a mechanic that completely changes the game doesn’t mean they are against evolution.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding but it seems like you’re suggesting exactly what anti-sprinters (myself included) want - ie higher base movement speed and no sprinting mechanic or animation that prevents you from being able to shoot.

Somewhat but I’m suggesting that you are actually sprinting so visually it looks and feels like it but the animation in and out of it are skipped. Sorry it seemed easier to explain in my head then to type.
