a SPRINT and CLAMBER compromise that could work

Here is something I don’t get… IMO it would be super easy to have a compromise that both the “343i Halo” crowd and the “Bungie Halo” crowd could most likely live with.

when talking about Sprint, most people bring up all its negatives, and rightfully so!
what if we could minimize these negatives where they become less and less of an issue?
Which is why I would propose the Half Life 2 Sprint system to be modernized and implemented in future Halos.

for people that didn’t play Half Life 2, Sprint in Half Life 2 is omnidirectional, meaning you can sprint sideward, backwards and forwards in any direction. And what I would modernize about it is implementing corresponding animations so it doesn’t simply look like super fast walking, which it still does in Half Life 2.
Also, in HL2 you do not lower your weapon and are not limited in your offensive capabilities while sprinting.
now you could still implement maybe a small limitation like no zoom-in while sprinting to make it so not everyone is just sprinting 100% of the time

so this would solve the main issues sprint in modern games has:
You would still be able to fight at all times! even when someone is sprinting away from you and you sprint after him!
on top of that it would introduce a skill gap, where really skilled players could move super fast through the map, even backwards, rewarding those who put the time in!

Now on to clamber, why is it there? so that people who want to do jumps have an extra chance of landing the jump, BUT it takes away a lot of the skill due to the level design changes to accommodate it, making skill jumps less common and less of a skill that can help you if you learn them.
another mechanic that would give less skilled players a second chance or easier time to land a jump would be a small double jump!
Chief and Spartans in general have thrusters in their armor, so in-universe it would make sense.

a double jump would offer a lot of skill jump possibilities and unskilled players an easy way out if they miss the easier jumps.

so, to me it is pretty clear. in order to make both the new players and the old players happe, 343i needs omnidirectional sprint that doesn’t lower your weapon, and replace clamber with a double jump mechanic.

minimizing the negatives still leaves you with a negative.

If I take a dump on someone’s floor, and then offer to clean up half of the turd and call it a compromise, I don’t think anyone would be happy. The entire problem needs to be removed.

If they would improve base movement speed you dont need sprint much. Especially side to side for pvp.
