A Spartan Ops Season 2?

At the end of the exodus conclusion it said that Halsey is siding with the covenant and wants revenge, does that mean there is going to be a new spartan ops season or am I just imagining things here?

The folks at 343 have said there will be no Season 2.

> Apologies for being the bearer of bad news, but we have no plans for a season 2. That being said, we will absolutely be continuing the story line of those characters and events. In fact, I may or may not have overheard the narrative discussing this very thing recently…

Been hearing talk on Youtube recently that Halo Escalation is what SpOps Season 2 should have been, just that the overwhelming response from the community on Waypoint to SpOps Season 1 was to the extent of comparing it to a pile of fetid excrement from the bowels of an eldritch abomination… or at least, that was the ‘more vocal’ part of the community. Remember the amount of SpOps S1 hate threads?

If this is true, more’s the pity. Imagine playing as Crimson, fighting side by side with Sangheili (including the Arbiter himself!) and Jiralhanae against this rogue Covenant faction (which apparently is not Jul’Mdama’s faction, but another splinter group).

One mission- or even a large part of an episode- could take place on board the Infinity, as Roland murderizes the Covenant fleet in orbit. Either another “Repel Covenant boarders” mission, or perhaps even take control of Infinity’s various weaponry and knock out entire Covenant capital ships. Have two players running around Infinity’s weapons control room (or even one player taking on the role of Roland and driving Infinity, though this might break Halo 4’s engine wide open), and another two players flying around in Broadswords/Longswords and actively engaging Covenant fighters.

Well, if the gameplay hadn’t sucked and been repetitive as hell, and the story/dialogue been less cartoony and annoying, then I’m sure the community response would’ve been more positive. Unfortunately, SpOps season 1 was just poorly executed.

I think the concept of Spartan Ops was brilliant, and hope it returns in Halo 5 if they fix a few gameplay issues and step up the writing.

So I agree that what killed SpOps season 1 was the execution, not the concept. Removing all the firefight options was just insane. Sure make the default gameplay your vision of how it should play, but don’t remove variety. Variety is what gives replay value and longevity. The worst part was the “no fail” missions. Having the only penalty to dying being “yay! ammo refresh!” completely ruined it. I play with a group online who really enjoy some of the new co-op multiplayer modes being put in games. We’ve been moving from Gears Horde mode to Halo Firefight to Mass Effect 3 MP etc as the games were released. Previous iterations of Halo Firefight held us for months, if not years with their variety and challenge. Halo 4 Spartan Ops we played through each mission once and then went back to Mass Effect, because there was no challenge or variety.

On top of that, character development and writing especially were poor in contrast to the rest of Halo. This is a universe that has seen some excellent writing, character, and story development, even attracting the likes of Greg Bear. In other franchises half-assing a story episode to episode may be OK, but in Halo it is just going to stand out in stark contrast to the rest of it and look worse.

The technical production values on the CGI cut scenes was impressive, if only they’d put the same amount of effort and quality into the writing
