A Solution To The Sprint Crisis.

I know many people hate sprint, because they regard it as a rubbish armor ability and complain how it creates unfairness and slows down game-play. So what if you moved very fast normally, but after moving in the same direction for a certain amount of time you began to pick up speed rapidly, which would eventually result in the player moving 20 or 30% faster than usual in any direction, it would only restart if the player completely stopped, but it would not apply for switching directions (e.g. strafing left and right). This would make moving at that speed normal for everyone and make it a more realistic and feasible experience.

It could also be made to feel more realistic by adding better sounds for the faster movement, so it is clear to hear that you running very fast e.g. maybe dull metallic thuds on the floor that become more rapid as you get faster, maybe a little wind rushing past you visor, just to make it a better experience.

I think if it were looked into a bit more it could really work and maybe that way everybody would suffice. It would technically be default because your not holding your gun down to move faster, your just picking up speed and to other people you would appear to be picking up speed because the body would be moving in motion to the higher speed but still being able to function normally as you would in default.

What do you think?

I was personally a very big supporter of all the armour abilities. I just think some were under-powered.

The point of the armour abilities is to give someone the upper hand in the battle.

You have to choose which ability you want carefully, each ability had advantages and drawbacks.

It was balanced in the way it gave everyone more power, but different power.

It added more variety to an encounter.

I personally believe if armour abilities are in, they need more and they need to be balanced more. But the current system needs minimal tweaking in my opinion.

Everyone should just move at the same speed. I don’t want to be killed by a sprint sword combo again for as long as I live.

Tweak 1: Make them map pickups

Tweak 2: Make them single use

Tweak 3: Change their name to “equipment”

Tweak 4: Remove armour lock

Read it, that’s what i’m saying, movement altogether will be faster, everyone will pick up speed by default it will just be implemented to help people get around quicker.

I already read it before I posted that and still stand by my post…If you’ve just spawned, and the enemy have beem alive for a while, the enemy will be faster than you, according to your system.

So you want the system Halo 3 had?

I personally don’t want a system that has been in any game before.
I want 343i to do something they want.

But given the choice I would follow more closely Reach.

i think that if sprint is back it should be a basic action for everyone and not an AA

By what? one or two seconds, it wouldn’t make a huge difference, 343 could always tweak it, but I still want that realistic feel of pricking up speed, even if it is for a second.

Exactly.

The only Armour Abilities I really dislike are Sprint, Evade and maybe Armour Lock.

With Sprint I have noticed that when someone get’s shot, they’ll just run and hide behind cover when they should have died.

With Evade, as soon as someone get’s shot twice, they just roll the hell outta there and wait for their shields to recharge. Then they’ll come back. It’s even worse when you’re shooting someone and he evades away and his teammate comes along with full shields and kills me because I only had five bullets left in my weapon before a reload.

Armour Lock isn’t much of an problem any more. Since the Update, if you take enough damage you’ll be canceled out of your lock. I still find it fun using Armour Lock when a Ghost is boosting in my direction. I only dislike it when two buddies pair up with Armour Lock.

Building off of reach would make me very angry…and hundreds of thousands of others.

This is why my idea would work, I also agree with what you say, evade can be a sonofa -Yoink-

This idea isn’t any better than sprint at all. A faster speed is going to destroy all the old maps we always have loved so much, it’s still not removing any of the problems with close combat combo’s and we still don’t move at only one speed.

I think they should just make default movement speed nice and fast like it was in Halo CE/2 and be done with it.

Also make the invisability just that no combo with radar jammar.
I like how the drop shield heald your health but it was so easy to destroy.

Yes it does solve those problems because it is pretty much default, the small pick up speed is just to create a more realistic effect and it would be very short, game-play will be fast pace again, and yes they were the old maps we knew and loved but Halo is going to take a new direction with Halo 4, the new maps will probably be bigger more interactive and have different layouts than before.

So faster moment speeds would be very useful for Halo 4 and I said it would not be like sprint in Reach. You would just move faster altogether, and not like it was in reach were you put your gun down and ran much much faster than normal destroying all sense of combat and game-play equality, I even said, it would not interrupt combat e.g. you would still be able to strafe as normal just faster like everyone in the game because it would be default, the short speed increase is just for visual purposes to make it more realistic.

So, you want movement acceleration.

Every single Halo game already has movement acceleration.
(It’s less pronounced in the early ones (thankfully), but it’s there; the games would feel choppy without it.)

Yes the voice of reason! but I’m saying I want it to be more noticeable than ever before, not as simple as before, much faster, with real vibrant sound affects, like I explained in the Original post, dull metallic thudding that increases pace as you do with the slight rush of wind past your visor for sounds, to create the feel of moving fast more real and present in game-play. I want those things to be very noticeable but not distracting, I can imagine it would be a nightmare for people with Tritons and other gaming headsets.

Sounds like you want movement acceleration on the level of Mirror’s Edge, which would unfortunately NOT play well in a Halo game. Movement should cap after less than a second of moving in a direction. But should feel quick and agile.
