A solution for Loadouts and Ordinance

Loadouts and ordinance both have there flaws in Halo 4. I would like to propose a possible solution for both.

I feel that the loadouts at start should be removed and players should now get a choice of “preferred” weapons. These would be set under the player customisation settings and allow the player to choose which weapons to start with based on classifications. The player would get the flowing choices:

  • Preferred precision - DRM, BR, Light Rifle, Carbine, or Needle Rifle
  • Preferred automatic - AR, Storm Rifle, Suppressor, or Plasma Repeater

The choice of automatic or precision starts would be based on gametype, with pistol or automatic secondary(precision start) and frag grenades (plasma, spike, fire or void based on gametype). This allows the player to have their preferred weapons without losing balance.

Loadouts, as they are in Halo 4, will replace/mix with ordinance drops. When a player earns a drop(kills, assists, medals, objectives etc.) they player will get a supply drop. Instead of dropping power weapons, they player then gets a loadout. These loadouts would basically be the same as Halo 4 loadouts (without perks or armor abilites). This means that loadouts now become a nice bonus rather than a game changing powerup or power weapons.

This system is meant to compliment standard on map pickups.

-Powerups (speed, overshield, damage, active camo) spawn on map.
-Power Weapons spawn on map (i.e. Halo 2, 3, Reach) and allows for the map control these spawns provide.

  • Grenades and base weapons (ie AR, BR, Needler, Plasma Pistol) spawn on map.
    -Armor abilities appear as on map pickups with a limited number of uses.

I think using the ordinance drops should only give you equipment like a bubble shield or trip mine etc.As those were beloved features that people liked me too included plus imagine the sick combos you can pull off like you drop a flare blind the enemy and you use Promethen vision to able to see through the bright flare and take them out before they even knew it :slight_smile:

I think I, and many others, would be happier if Automatics simply replaced the PP and BS in the secondary slot. The Magnum would need to be rebalanced as a weapon with limited range but headshot capability so it can keep up with automatics, but won’t infringe on the niche of the precision weapons.

Then just 1x any grenade. 1x stick won’t mess up vehicle play, especially without PPs. Only thing that needs a real change when it comes to stickies is an answer to “point blank” sticking. Which can be solved if the grenade doesn’t become “sticky” until it’s flown, say, 10 feet.

A better solution:

Don’t have loadouts, set or custom, in the core game experience. The idea of loadouts and ordinance somewhat work in a gamemode like Invasion.

Instead of trying to fix what’s broken why not bring back what wasn’t broken in the first place?

I’m all OK with custom loadouts. But think they should be as follow:

To keep Halo an Arena Shooter, and keep the game balanced and provide weapons on maps for players to fight to gain map control.
The Loadout choice of weapons need to much more limited than the current options in Halo 4.

Halo 5 Loadout Weapon choices:
Primary Weapons:
BR
AR
Carbine
Storm Rifle

Secondary Weapons:
Magnum
SMG
Plasma Rifle
Needle Pistol (new)

All other weapons and grenades spawn on map.

The DMR and LR need to be removed from Loadout Choice. As they have a very long range and should be map pickup only, and by finding these on a map, you have a mini power weapon. Also by removing these weapons from loadout options, it allows for better map movement.

The Boltshot, Plasma Pistol and Plasma Grenade all require to be removed from Loadout Choice.

All Forerunner weapons require to be “creme de la crème” of the weapon sandbox. The Scatter Shot and Suppressor are a Joke. These really should be mini power weapons.

But POD need to be removed. It be really hard to have POD that are balanced and fair. I have an idea for them which is a great improvement from H4 POD. But still has it flaws which many people have commented on. And is why I think POD’s should just be removed.
