A small idea that I’ve been thinking of about the SA’s is what if they were one use pickups?
Hear me out.
It’s not as dumb as you think.
Take sprint for an example. (yaya I know, we no liek sprint). Since sprint is a game changing mechanic then why not make it like they did in MLG 7 on reach that it’s a pickup? But instead of having it till you die why not only make it a one time use? It’s activation time is about 5 seconds (maybe more or less, nothing too overpowered) and once activated it can be canceled and then you’re not able to use it till you pick it up next time it spawns again.
Same can go for Ground Pound, slide, tackle and stabilizer.
It gives the abilities a much higher value within games and they don’t take part when building maps. Since sprint is something you add in and will be seen more as a power weapn the maps won’t need to be build around that feature.
From what I’ve noticed maps are built around two of the new abilities, sprint and clamber. Clamber could stay as a normal mechanic (not a pickup) because it’s influence isn’t as massive as sprints. The only thing Clamber has done to maps are higher jumps where you can only use clamber to reach them. And clamber isn’t the worst ability of all time, it has a fairly nice synergy with crouc jumping.
But sprint has the biggest impact on map design (if so chosen), we’ve all seen that in other threads and I think making it a one time use on pickup (which you can save like the bubble shield in H3) it won’t have the same negative influence.
Of course if 343i thinks this is a nice idea, aswell as the community, the game has to be delayed for map revamps/remade and I have nothing against it at all. It gives them more time for other features aswell like the ranking system or spectator mode.
Watcha think community, is it good?
FYI: I’m anti-sprint and this is only a solution to 343i if they really feel like they NEEEEED sprint in their game.
Honestly I couldn’t see this working. Who would fight over the ability to float in midair or have an extremely situational, hard to use instakills? Especially when there’s a sword or rocket launcher over there.
Plus, the entire marketing thing for SA’s was that they were base player traits for everyone.

The idea was more focused on the sprint ability. People WOULD fight over it since it allows you to move through the maps so fluently and fast, allowing you to get power weapons faster than the enemy team. Making it a one time use pickup would make it more of a powerplay device instead of a gamebreaking mechanic.
Sprint isn’t new to the franchise and shouldn’t really be included in my opinion (but who cares about opinions, right?) and making it slower, nerfing it to the ground in general only makes it look worse and work worse than what it already does.
Having slide, tackle, GP and stabilizers as pickups wouldn’t really do much and this idea doesn’t really change much about them hence they don’t get used that very often but if you make them pickups they might become more importan, maybe not.
But this fundimental idea is to make sprint a one time use pickup so it doesn’t disturb proper arena map design and core gameplay.

If you’re just talking about Sprint, then that’s more understandable. All the rest would suffer from being pickups, really. The only time it would be a good idea to pick up Slide would be when you’ve got a Shotgun, and in its current state Charge wouldn’t get used at all.
Honestly, I refuse to have an opinion on Sprint in general, as I can acknowledge both sides of the argument, and don’t want to get bashed by either side. It feels damn good, and I don’t see the problem with maps so long as it’s done right, and have never found anyone escaping to be a problem to me. I suppose it could work, but… Eh, I don’t know.

Sprint is bad or good depending on what standpoint you’re in. When in social, it’s a rather fun mechanic and doesn’t really change much but when in competetive the mechanic doesn’t change but you look at it at a much higher detail and it’s rather bad for hundreds of reasons (For Halo, not other games, just Halo, core Halo)
I cant see this working, but maybe a pickup with the model of the Reachs jet pack that lets you use all the SAs unlimited times, but if someone kills you, he cant pick the jet pack and have to wait the respawn time could work.
So basically Equipment from Halo 3? I’d be all for bringing that back.

I’d be for this, but the problem is the maps are designed to fit the abilities, and if only one person got them because they’re pickups, then everyone else couldn’t play the maps as intended. As much as I hate the new spartan abilities I don’t see this idea working any better

leave the other abilities as they are, sprint could just be speed boost, which is already in other games.
