A small problem or two

Ancient Humanity have the genetic make up to surpass the Forunners as stated by the Librarian, hence the reason why they should take hold of the mantle of “lameness” otherwise known as responsibility. What I’m questioning is, if humans are so exceptionally smart why was it necessary for the librarian to tweak their genetic make-up in order for them to advance when in reality they should already possess the evolutionary know how.

For example their physical evolution, combat skin and ancilla. Is the librarian saying without her help we wouldn’t have had the innovation to develop these things? Its like a contradiction. Humans to the Forunners were one of their greatest enemies and understood the flood better, yet the librarian after a “culmination of thousand lifetimes of planning” (Not sure if serious Librarian) felt the need to meddle with us in order to advance us when, I say it again, we already had the genetic make up to do so as seen in ancient humanity.

Its just a poor explanation. Maybe bad script writing.

My other query is she states that the flood only assimilate living tissue. Now this is a major flaw, like, absolutely massive. I won’t go into how huge of a flaw this is. The recent discoveries in neuroscience show the growing similarities in our brains and computers. Both use electric impulses etc. If the flood were developed by the percusers it should have been easy for them when developing the flood (or however they created them) to make them assimlate non - organic brains. The flood are able to use and control vehicles and even calculate splispace jumps. The composer somehow copies the brains organically to digitally. please enlighten me how the brains are any different, we see memories of the promethean knights that were once humans when composed in new phoenix in spartan ops. I don’t see why flood wouldn’t or couldn’t assimilate promethean knights as they seem to have a consciousness and sentience. What is consciousness and how does a digital brain pretty much the same as a normal brain minus water and other compounds construct one.

Ok so there’s my two problems. I’m a little bit hungover so if this does not make any sense whatsoever I apologise in advance. Hopefully you guys understand where what I’m trying to say

I’m just going by what I think I recall, but didn’t the Librarian “accelerate” evolution or something to that effect with the Chief?

Which isn’t to say humans couldn’t have naturally progressed to that stage given 1000 or so years or whatever it took.

Just because computers and brains use electrical impulses is no means to equate their assimilation. The Flood override genetics and changes the complete structure of the body or whatever organic material. They can’t use the same method to change the structure of, for instance, metal or any non-organic structure and form a organic/non-organic complex.

I thought that their ability to control vehicles relied on reaping the memories of their host.

Answer to your first question is pretty simple.

Humanity was split into dozens of subspecies and forcibly devolved several thousands years into their genetic past.

The Librarian took a shine to those that, within a millenia, redeveloped steam power and boats. She accelerated their growth and moved them to the Halo’s while also planting them with her geas.

Unfortunately her crazy ex-husband slaughtered the majority of these special humans with the Composer.

She then had to take primitive humans and mix all that chaff back in with the few elements of wheat she had managed to save. So Humanity is behind because her advanced population was killed off and the survivors mixed back in with the primitives.

@ Question #2- Ever heard of the Logic Plague?

Humanity would have passed the Forerunners naturally, originally.

But at the conclusion of the Human-Forerunner War, Humanity was deevolved genetically and physically into numerous subspecies of cavemen intelligence. Whatever they were on their way to pass naturally is going to take hundreds of thousands of years to regain.

The Librarian helped to accelerate that. Then, Composer and Haloa set them back again.

Humanity developed on its own after the Halos, but the Librarian’s geas did help push some advancements. The Spartan Program was a major achievement to returning to Humanity’s original power and genetic advancement.

The Flood does employ a dangerously effective method of infecting AIs. The Logic Plague.
An AI exposed to the logic plague is given information and knowledge, all while convincing it that the Flood are the good guys. This forces the AI into a state of rampancy, where it turns against its creators.
The process above can take a long time, 43 years for the Contender Class Ancilla Mendicant Bias. But Cortana was under a lot of stress and was growing weaker with just around a month.
Even lesser or more “dumb” AIs would be even easier.

Mantle of “lameness”? May I ask what made you say that OP?

> Mantle of “lameness”? May I ask what made you say that OP?

Just the term “Mantle of Responsibility” is so cliche, and as I was writing the OP, it just frustrated me so I put in “lameness”. I cringe whenever I hear the librarian say “Mantle of responsibility.” The word doesn’t suit Halo.

But hey, just my opinion.

Indeed.

Does this also mean you aren’t a fan of the Forerunners giving it to us as well? What would you of called it?

Then what would you propose OP?

Responsibility is the perfect word. Whomever wields the Mantle is then responsible for all life in the Galaxy and must encourage the advancement of it, and protect it from threats.

How does an English word not “suit” being in an American video game franchise? It’s just a word…

Like others have already stated, humanity was de-evolved, and by the 26th century we haven’t been able to catch up.

As for why the robotic Prometheans would work better than biological Prometheans, I came up with this. The Flood can manipulate AIs, computer systems etc (the Logic Plaque), but it can’t feed on them. When a biological soldier is defeated by the Flood, it now has more food and a new combat unit to use. If the soldier is a robot, the Flood only gets a robot, too. Not the best reason to digitize your army but the Didact was insane…

> mantle of “lameness”

While I like the idea of “the Mantle of Responsibility”, I have to admit just “the Mantle” would be a better name.
