A slightly less terrible ending? *Spoilers*

I had a random thought a little a while ago and thought I’d throw it out there and see what people thought. Most people, myself included, were pretty darn disappointed with the story of Halo 5. One sticking point for me was the whole “Cortana is the villain” bum pull of a twist they pulled on us. So I was thinking, what if the whole campaign played out the same, but in the final cut-scene between Chief and Cortana, when Chief and Blue Team get frozen, you see Cortana’s hologram start to dissolve and in her place you see the hologram of the composed Didact? At that point Didact would have an epic monologue and explain his evil plan, that he pretended to be Cortana to draw Chief out so he could capture Chief in a Cryptum and make Chief watch as he (Didact) destroyed the human race? The motivation behind this would be as sort of a giant “screw you” to Chief for foiling his plan in Halo 4.

I feel like this change would accomplish a few things. One, it would make some sense of “Cortana’s” crazy turn to villainy as it would have really been the Didact behind the destruction of the Human colonies. Two, it would have actually made Team Osiris saving Blue Team feel like an accomplishment. Osiris would be saving Blue Teams lives in this scenario rather than just getting Chief and crew out of Corana’s love ball. Finally it would bring the Didact back into the series (one of my favorite characters) and would have related this games story back, at least somewhat, to the epic Halo 4 ending monologue and to the “hunt the truth” campaign (at least there would be a tiny bit of deception in the story).

Anyway, what do you guys think? Terrible idea? You guys got any simple changes that you think could have improved the story?

-_-
Chief and Blue Team didn’t get frozen. Cortana put them in the Cryptum, they can meditate in Cryptum. Didact was in Cryptum as well.
Sorry, but when Cortana disintegrated her form here was no Didact visible.
ALSO, Didact got disintegrated, I’d advise you to read Halo: Escalation to see what happened to the Didact.
^ Disintegrated and contained (dead, but not really dead) makes your theory not valid.
No offense, but it’s not a good theory. Also Didact didn’t really hate humanity. Read Halo Forerunner saga books to learn more about him.

Why would the Didact be composed? There isn’t a way he can come back into the series.

He is killed in the comics (by being dropped from space on a portion of a halo ring and subsequently disintegrating.)

The didactic grew to hate humanity, as he could not access the domain (before Halo 5 it was stated the domain was destroyed by the Halo ring, IDK how they are going to explain it back into the universe) and was forced to wait in the cryptum for 100,000 years in isolation. This drove him insane and he blamed humanity for his imprisonment.

Not really, it was only said and guessed it was destroyed. Prior that the Gravemind also said it’s the Organon, et cetera et cetera. Even prior firing Halo Array Domain gotten inaccessible.
Well, he was supposed to help after being awakened… Like you said - that long in islolation can drive mad.
Still, I can see his point, he lost too much during all the years as well. I can say he grew to despise humanity, but he didn’t hate them, just my opinion.

  1. I was referring to this scene.
  2. Uhh, I know? This isn’t a theory, it’s a “what could have been instead of what we got”.
  3. I know what happened to him, he got composed at the composers forge and Chief says he is “contained”. Who says he can’t get out? Heck, Cortana came back from the dead in this story, that is less believable.
  4. I did read them. The Ur-Didact was corrupted and became willing to do anything to achieve Forerunner supremacy and there was no small amount of distain for humans in his character. He showed as much when he tried to compose everyone on earth in Halo 4.
