Sprint isn’t going anywhere, it’s staying in the franchise whether you like it or not. Halo 5 is literally built around the sprint mechanic. The maps are built around sprint, the abilities, and the gameplay is also. Sprint works beautifully in halo 5 and the decision to make it so that your shields don’t recharge was brilliant, but it’s still over powered. Many fans still argue that sprint ruins gameplay because of enemies running to cover.
My solution is simple: put bullet-stagger in halo 5. Bullet stagger is when you slow down when running due to being shot. Let’s say an enemy is running away and he’s about to find cover, all you have to do is shoot him and he will slow down drastically, thus letting you have the opportunity to shoot him. It will fix the issue of enemies retreating and make the majority of halo fans happy! Sprint won’t be unusable, it will just be nerfed more. Halo 5’s gameplay will still work, you won’t have to redesign maps, and you won’t have to take out any abilities. Please consider this as a possible option, 343!
At the end of the day, Escaping is still a valid tactic in Halo. It should be difficult yes, but not impossible.
Halo 5’s Sprint has a window for being knocked out of Sprint if you take damage at full speed, putting you back at base movement speed.

Yes but that is a very small window. My solution widens this window, I just want 343 to see this and take this into consideration.
You stop sprinting when shot! Has no one else noticed this! If he is running away put some in his back and he will slow with no way to defend himself! Also the argument of increasing base speed to 120 percent is not valid. At that point you will always be sprinting. The running away to cover and your teammates will be even greater than it is now. At least now someone has to think about using the option to remove himself or win a firefight as opposed to just doing it. That takes some mindful skill. Sprint in this game is great. A slight increase in TTK or a nerd on auto weapons with a alight increase in clip size would resolve this. Also a slight decrease in blast radius of grenades needed because of no indicator on grenades near. I know that’s not what was in halo 2!! NO! Get over it great game but completely archaic!
If we are going to leave Sprint in the game, just make it so you cannot Sprint with less than 100% shields. Fixes people sprinting to get out of battle, ends Sprint when they get shot, yet keeps it as a core function.

People have no qualms with being fast, it’s the point of your gun being down and escaping easily instead of standing your ground.

If I didn’t have to “stand my ground” in previous Halo games in every engagement, then I sure as hell don’t have to now
Sprint is not a magical escape tool simply because you could easily escape engagements in Halos without sprint. If someone is shooting at me on Last Resort and I’m right outside the base, I could always run into the base and use the various ramps, steps and corridors to put some distance between myself and my attacker.

I wasn’t aware of the sprint slowing down in halo 5, I’ll have to look for that next time I play. Other than that, I agree whole heartedly with your post

Sounds good, but I feel like it would create more problems rather than fix them.

I agree, I’ve ran to cover in previous halo games with no issue
Here’s one solution to sprint
remove it. It doesn’t belong in halo
I agree battle and MTR. Halo is a smart mans FPS. The worst players in every game of Halo 5 are the sprint spammers. As opposed to the good ones whom use sprint to remove themselves from a lost battle to cover or their teammates (a death is just as bad as a kill is good in Halo) they just sprint there -Yoink- everywhere getting worked the whole time. It has been the way the game has been played forever now there is just a better way to incorporate that very important tactic? And Nobel - do you not use corners and the environment when engaged in battle? You are doing the same thing in Halo 5 but you can make the CHOICE do that faster and sacrifice shield charge or do it the old style based on the situation (I.e. Teammate behind me so I don’t need to turn and sprint because he will take the firing lane and pick up the bullets from and on target as opposed to the latter). The biggest problem with the game is it is going to alienate people who do not want to be competitive. People who don’t or can’t communicate, people canted hit head 3 outta 4 shots, people who can’t reverse with tactics and grenades, and people who can’t see and assist teammates through shooting lanes. That’s why COD and BF are so popular is because when I don’t or can’t (wife and baby asleep) talk I can just run and gun by self and still own almost everyone. Not in a match with skilled Halo 5 players. A month into the full game without a squad you are screwed.
I think the idea of stopping sprint when shot would work perfectly as you can still use it to catch up to your team mates, or get across a map. This would also make vehicles more effective
Scythixx- it’s already there.when shot while in sprint you slow to standard movement speed immediately. How as no one noticed this.

It works great in halo 5 and it’s not leaving anytime soon. Toughen up buttercup

Agreed, I rarely use sprint in battle and rather use it to get to the battle.

Hasn’t happened to me yet.

I’m glad we have so many knowledgeable experts such as yourself to tell us what does or does not belong in Halo.
I do feel sprint works with the shield crutch theyve added but one thing that needs attention are GRENADES it is extremely annoying being in a BR battle as soon as you get the upper hand they just thruster around the corner and start lobbing grenades at you, they are far too effective against your shields

I think it only happens before the momentum kicks in
