Note: This is something I just thought of. Don’t take it too seriously, I don’t actually believe it. It’s just an idea I want to toss out there.
Here is a random idea I thought of that could explain why co-op was delayed. There are a lot of assumptions here, I know, but if you are interested, read on. Again, this is just for fun. Don’t take it seriously.
It starts with the backlash against REQ packs. Loot boxes are hated by gamers. So Microsoft needs to make money in some other form of micro-transactions (MTX). They can’t make a MTX system as intrusive as REQ packs using the new battle pass idea. At least not in a $60 game. Hmm…
So, Halo Infinite is split into two components. Campaign and multiplayer. Multiplayer is F2P. Great for getting everyone to have a chance at playing Halo. Even better, MTX can be more intrusive. Boom. Colors are monetized into armor coatings. Red and blue teams gone to allow players to advertise their $10 armor coating to everyone and try to entice others to purchase it as well. Paid battle passes akin to Fortnite. Now Microsoft can more money than ever before, and anyone who finds the MTX to be hurting the progression system will be shot down with “It’s F2P anyway” retorts.
But now, what about campaign? How can that cost $60? Because we sure as heck aren’t lowering the price. Open world. One big open world that takes place in a forest biome. Scattered throughout the world, there are Banished forts to take down, Far Cry style. And there can be side missions to complete. Boom. Just like that, the campaign is arguably worth $60. Microsoft still makes their full $60 off Halo fans wanting the complete game while simultaneously having a MTX system that would normally get tons of hate in any standard $60 Halo game.
But now, what about co-op? Well, as they said, co-op is tricky to implement due to the open world aspect of the campaign. So because of the game being open world, co-op was delayed by at least three months.
Pretty long-winded, I know. Again, don’t take this seriously. I just wanted to throw this idea out there. I’m likely not going to respond to comments, unless they’re interesting. Note: This is something I just thought of. Don’t take it too seriously, I don’t actually believe it. It’s just an idea I want to toss out there.
Multiplayer is FTP to get more people back in the game. More people = potential revenue… but also more Halo fans and a chance for the franchise to blossom again.
The MTX aren’t intrusive. They are just colours. Intrusive is when something is pay to win. Coatings are not.
Open world is just the next evolution of the game-play. At least semi-open. Sounds like it was a fairly late change and it broke co-op (spawning system). Was it worth it? We’ll find out soon enough.

Oh, I should clarify, I said intrusive because being able to choose colors was a standard since Halo CE. Customization is something many fans enjoy, but much of it will be locked behind paid battle passes. Intrusive means something that is disruptive and unenjoyable through being unwelcomed, so many would agree that monetizing their ability to customize their Spartan is intrusive. But the first battle pass is free, thankfully.
Anyway, let’s hope for the best with the campaign.
EDIT: First battle pass may not be free.

Where are some of you getting this from ? I fell for it a few months back, but I cannot find it confirmed that Heroes of Reach is free. Please link it.
As for intrusive microtransactions ? Totally agree, anything tha affects my gameplay is intrusive, especially if I have to grind colours.

343 mentioned in a vidoc that there’ll be free and paid battlepass progression tracks, similar to Destiny’s battlepass. The Yoroi armour will also be available to everyone when the first season releases. Info.

I actually can’t find a source. I forgot where I heard it.

All passes will have paid and free tracks. That link does not state the first battle pass is free. There are users on here stating the first battle pass is free, I think there’s been confusion.
