Recently, I have been thinking about how Halo’s Campaign could continue and how it will play and I wondered if the Campaign is possibly going to be quite silent.
I mean, now that we have ‘lost’ Cortana and John is probably going rogue (in case we can take the teaser trailer as some serious hints), there would not be much space or need for dialogs, aside the cut scenes, would there?
Simply imagine Halo 4’s Campaign without Cortana. The Campaign had been silent for most of the time.
Or will some one accompany him on his probably lonely journey?
A new A.I.? I doubt that he will get one or even want a new A.I. from the UNSC but perhaps he finds/ meets a forerunner A.I…
An old friend or a close comrade? Most of them are dead and the very few left are probably spread around the galaxy. Besides, would John even fit into a team, now that he has been a lone wolf for so long?
A new comrade? Again, do the Master Chief and an organic companion even go well together?
John has never been a big talker and so I can’t imagine him having monologs either.
So what else could be left to fill the Campaign with ‘talk’? Flashbacks? Memories that are talking to him?
Well I’d LOVE a campaign about me (if confused check the name)
No but really, you bring up a good point. I think we’ll likely see a Spartan Team accompany us, possibly Palmer (343i have been putting a lot of attention on Palmer) given her assignment to eliminate Halsey.
That is assuming Chief is still trying to find Halsey, which seems likely otherwise he’d have had no reason to go rouge. If he’s not searching for Halsey, he’s searching for a way to bring Cortana back.
Maybe we’ll see some cortana flashbacks as Chief slowly goes insane due to his already damaged psyche. Who know.
The robot owl in the trailer has been heavily speculated to be mendicant bias, who could act as a new ai companion.
There are apparently eight spartan 2s in active duty still, plus the Arbiter could be described as a companion at this point.
One would assume that the UNSC will be a large part of the campaign even if Chief has deserted. Drop in and save a squad of marines he stumbled across and they don’t have the heart to try to arrest the savior of humanity.
Cortana may be recovered at some point.
As far as if Chief can be a team member… he has been a team member for literally his entire life aside from between 2 and 3 plus the events of the four video games (remember he was in stasis between 3 and 4)which saw him work with many squads of marines and spartans.
The Master Chief was trained from the age of six to be a team member and has been the spartan team leader for his entire adult life. I think he’s still perfectly fine to work in a team so long as some sort of emotional break down doesn’t leave him unfit for duty.
Edit: my spartan count is outdated, but there are still more than a handful left.
I agree with you that we will probably see some kind of search for Halsey. But again I can’t see the Chief working together with Palmer or Majestic.
Besides, I don’t think it would be a smart move to send Chief together with Palmer or any Spartan IV team on search for Halsey.
Firstly, I guess John is probably one of the few if not even the only one now who gets trust from Halsey. I doubt Halsey would be keen on seeing Palmer or any other again, aside the Chief.
Secondly, imagine Chiefs reaction towards Palmer when he finds out that the UNSC (Palmer) tried to eliminate Halsey.
@RavensHa10
That’s true the Chief was trained to be a team member but in the video games he has always been a loner.
I don’t know, that’s something that has always defined Halo’s Campaign for me in some way, that you are alone. Even though you are actually a human, it feels like you do not really belong to them because you are different.
Now I think if Chief gets reunited with his old Spartan Team for example, he would not be so special because he would not be the only one of his kind anymore and it would take away that feeling of ‘loneliness’
So I think if there will be a companion for his lonely journey, some kind of A.I. or simply a different species would fit him best.
I highly doubt Chief is going rogue, he has no reason to do so, if anything I assume it will be a little like Halo 3 without the crappy Cortana moments, so he talks, but a little less frequent than usual, or maybe I’m wrong and Chief has recognised his Humanity and tries to interact with fellow soldiers

I have a feeling it might be like those. It was so annoying when cortana and the gravemind were both talking in Chief’s head.

And slowed down the gameplay, one of my many complaints with me, but one thing is for sure with this game, they need to take developing Chief further
They’re going to develop Chief further, for sure. If/when he does find out about Palmers attempt on halsey (which she failed while say, Buck, could of pulled off lol) he will know it was orders and not react, he will probably give her the silent treatment, and I dare her to try to execute him.

Well I doubt Chief would follow such an order Palmer were given. Of course, Spartans were taught discipline but not to be puppets.
Besides, Halsey is like a mother to him. That’s why I really doubt he would not react about the fact that they tried to eliminate Halsey.

I really like the idea of Bias taking the role of A.I. Companion for this game. Not as a permanent replacement for our fair blue lady, but for at least this campaign.
I have a good feeling that the talking lightbulb will be back too. Perhaps he’ll be able to tell that Chief is working with Bias and thus, in the name of ‘protocol dictates action’, becomes one of those annoyances who tries to stop you from completing your quest in every way possible.
Having Bias present would also give a reason for Sentinels to act hostile towards Chief again, which would be nice.

There’s gonna be a lot of time wasted pushing her off the nearest cliff anytime she shows up.
