a serious inquiry. opinions needed

let me first off say the halo series is what i started my online gaming with. i absolutely love h2 and h3. after halo3 i started of playing cod. which has occupied my time since. i have not played halo 4 but im really wanting to get back into it. i honestly cant stand cod anymore. its horrible but thats a different story. ive read alot of negative stuff here, but every games forums have these threads. there isnt many live streamers like on twitch to check it out. its been a few months so i figure now that time has passed to get the bugs out. how is it really. id rather have the input from someone who has played em all during the good ol days, and can vouch on the goods and bads compared to the time proven greatness of past games. im prob going in tomorrow to exchange blackops 2 for it. so maybe theres a few people who want to run it. but hows the dlc’s? are btb and swat still going strong? changed? are there even enough people online to get matches? i know you build characters up but is there levels/ranks like halo3? stat tracking like k/d, w/l etc?

Personally, I think Halo 4 is one of the weaker entries in the series. I only really seem to have fun nowadays when I play with friends, but even that has a breaking point when frustrating features like Ordinance, Specializations and Loadouts show how flawed they can be. The maps are passable, but not nearly as fun as the past games, even Reach has more memorable maps than Halo 4 in my opinion.

The story isn’t that well structured either. If you haven’t read any of the books, it can be pretty confusing. But if you like the interactions between Chief and Cortana, that is a part of the story that truly shines as an example of brilliant characterization.

That said, try it out for yourself and make your own decision…my own opinion is the only one I really trust after all.

There are no ranks.

It uses a progression system similar to CoD where you earn weapons and perks as you level up. Game has loadouts and perks, and rewards you for getting kills in the form of “Personal Ordnance”, which is basically a random power weapon or powerup.

There is a competitive playlist that forces BR starts only.

Crimson DLC has three mediocre BTB maps.

Majestic DLC comes out tomorrow and has three Arena style maps.

Team Snipers and Team Doubles are back.

Flood is a direct downgrade to Infection. Has no custom maps or gametypes in matchmaking, and is missing options in general.

Overall though, this game is basically structured like CoD. If you are trying to get away from CoD by playing Halo 4 you are shooting yourself in the foot.

I personally think that infinity slayer is a mess.

The whole game is a mess. As a fan of Halo since I was 12 (23 now ), I would say its the worst Halo, bar Reach. halo has moved away from arena based too class based, and with it has left what it originally felt like the play Halo. As a Halo nut who has bought HCE H2,H3 HODST, Reach and Halo 4 I would have to say Halo 4 is the biggest mess, although I personally dont consider Reach a proper Halo game, and to an extent I feel the same way regarding H4. Please please heed this warning and don’t buy it! I feel bad saying this as H4 is suffering on XBL and needs the players, but I could never honestly tell someone to buy this dog-mess of a game. I play it alot, but thats because I love Halo, and I cant get a good connection for H3. Hope ths helps

i make fun with what’s availble, i don’t whine and complain about it

You’re only going to get negatives here my friend.
you’ve done the right thing in a terrible forum. I commend your effort on the research side of things.

As a fan of the Halo series for the last 12 years, Halo 4 is a decent game. yes there are some ‘perceived’ issues in the Matchmaking but it all comes down to your tastes.

The campaign, although short, is amazing.
Spartan Ops, while repetitive, extends the Halo 4 story further and has left many people asking for more.
And the Multiplayer Matchmaking system is fun. True there are balancing issues and people complain about not having a competitive playlist (although there is one once the CSR arrives) it’s still a fair take on the evolution of Halo.

Once again, its your decision in the end. As much as i would advocate for anyone to try the game out you need to find this by yourself.
Good luck.

We get it, you hate halo 4

If you didnt like reach’s overall gameplay, you probably wont like halo 4.

It has Grunts so there is at least one solid good point.Though they aren’t as funny as they used to be.Though they are still fun to shoot.Hmm… the multiplayer is iffy at the moment but it slowly getting better. So if you buy Halo 4 soon, its probably the best time, that way you can get familiar with everything sooner.A lot is different so expect a Halo a bit different than what you are used to.The controls are fairly smooth, and the aim assist and bullet magnetism is very high so you wont have to much trouble aiming and hitting your mark.

When you start Multiplayer you are best off using the DMR seeing as its a overpowered POS(what i think at least). The rest you will catch on to rather quickly if you played Halo since CE.The game does feel the same so no worry’s there. Most people are just mad at the multiplayer balance which will get fixed soon i’m sure.

Spartan Ops is definitely worth it, and it is fun.Just be aware that Halo 4 will eat up a rather large amount of HDD space. So make sure you have at least 15gb free.Currently it takes up a little under 10gb i think. The frame rate is a little bad if a lot is happening in the game at once.DO NOT do split screen unless you want 10 or less frames per sec.The graphics take almost all of the xbox’s resources up to run.

The rest us best reserved for your personal opinion to judge.

Were you an fan of costum games, and having a multitude of gametypes? If so, you will probably be underwhelmed.

And you people wonder why this game has a lower population than previous games. Instead of listing all the cons and shutting new comers off, why don’t you guys encourage people to join in by listing the pros?

I’m sorry OP but the people here are pretty wound up. People tend to focus more on the negative aspects, rather than the positives, and they only talk about wanting the negatives to be solved ASAP. Combine that with the last TU only being a bug-fix, the balancing of weapons and loadouts is hot debate.

BTB and Swat are both up and running. Swat has changed by giving you the option to choose a DMR or a BR for your primary starting weapon. BTB has changed quite a bit from Halo 3 days. You can create your own loadouts like in CoD, but they are nowhere near as unbalanced, at least from my CoD experience. Vehicles are weaker than in Halo 3, but with a good teammate you can still dominate the battlefield.

The Crimson DLC was released somewhat quickly, and was focused on BTB maps, but they weren’t anything amazing.

The Majestic DLC pack comes out tomorrow and has 3 new Arena-style maps, which 343 made due to the reactions to the Crimson DLC.

There’s plenty of people online to play with in any playlist.

The Ranking system is currently based on experience, which means the more you play the more you rank up. But you will obviously rank up faster if you’re better at the game. On the flip side there’s a 1-50 style ranking system launching in April, but the catch is you can only view it from this website, at least for the time being. You can also keep track of you K/D, W/L I’m not certain of but I believe it’s still there.

The game still has many problems, but 343i is working hard to fix problems and improve the game. Despite what some people might say, they’re listening to the community and diligently trying to solve problems.

I’m gonna be totally honest, I actually really like Halo 4! I think it’s a great game. I think it gets a lot more hate than it deserves. It does have some problems, but they are aren’t as game breaking as people claim. I think one they add Multi Team and Action Sack and bring back some more Customs options, it’ll be pretty much perfect.

It’s your decision, but you’re probably going to get more hate here than anything else.
