A reminder to all the "true Fans" what Halo is all about...

Ok im getting pretty sick of the re-occurring complaint threads, and “Letters from the competitive community” etc, suggesting the Halo community is divided between competitive players and casual players.

Yes MP is a huge part of any Halo game, but it should in no way take priority over story, and id liek to think any “True Fan” would agree with me.

I just finished reading Primordium, after being captivated by Cryptum, which i bough yesterday and could not put down, leading to me buying and reading book 2 today, and wow. Easily my favourite book of all time. Learning about Didact, The Primordial, and origins of Humans, the flood and Guilty Spark was amazing, and i now couldnt be more excited for whats to come in Halo 4.

To those of you who havent read the books I highly suggest you do, as it sets up a pretty incredible albeit horrific story for Halo 4. And thats easily what im looking foward to the most, not the graphics, or multiplayer, or what gameplay mechanics have or havent changed etc. Its all about the story for me, as it should be for any Halo fan…

For curiosities sake, heres a poll, that im sures been done plenty of times before but oh well. What exactly is everyone looking foward to the most?

rawflecopter. whats campaign?

srsly though, your 5 hours of enjoyment are more important than my thousands? You’re too funny.

Edit: Also, true fans? I 100% guarantee I’ve played more halo than you. Just because the multiplayer is more fun than a story to me doesn’t mean I’m not a “true fan”.

There is lot more then 5 hrs in Campaign. Look at the ppl like Mythic Tyrant, look at the speedrunners, look at the Rockslider who spent tons of hours in Halo 1 and he is still playing that game even now. Look at the great fiction behind the campaign, all the books, graphic novels, Halo Legends and other stuff. There is lot more then 5 hrs.

However i dont choose between SP and MP. I like Halo for what it is. A game with great warriety, lot of possibilities for SP, MP and even creativity in Forge.

So i dont vote, becouse there is no option for me.

I can only play the campaign so much. The AI becomes predictable, and the levels become a bore. Multiplayer is hat really brings in the replay value.

Come for the campaign, stay for the multiplayer - Bungie.

Multiplayer is far more important in the long run.

TRUE FAX! I love being competitive and playing MLG and being the best player out there (or trying to be, anyway) but I will still buy Halo 4, even though I don’t like what they’re doing with it.

I don’t complain because my type of player has gone down the drain and other players who love abilities that go “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, look at what I can do!” and all of that flashy stuff which I believe detracts from the gameplay.

Not to mention everyone will claim that I hate change because they clearly know me better than myself without even knowing what I look like.

But what has always bothered me is how my friends and many others don’t care about story anymore. They only play half the game. They buy the game, go to multiplayer, play 15 hours of games, get mad, and after a month, wonder why the game is so bad, when:

They don’t understand the story.

They skip all the cutscenes and just want achievements (achievement whhore myself)

But hey, Halo is my favorite franchise and I grew up with it. I’ve read many of the books, but not all. I love replaying the campaign missions on my other accounts (original account is Demon Chips), and loving Halo more than just for its awesome gameplay. Now since I believe that the gameplay will disappoint me, all I’ll have left is story. Not sure if it’s really worth buying, but I’ll stay with this franchise till its death, and at times, maybe even kicking and screaming.

I dont even know how to reply to that. I will always take a compelling story over anything else. And you can 100% guarantee can you? i didnt say i dont play MP… and over the course of the Halo games, with my combined campaign playtimes plus custom games, time spent in forge or theatre etc i highly doubt you have…

And if you prefer MP then no you are not a true fan of Halo. You are a “true fan” of its multiplayer, theres a difference. A true Halo fan need not even play the games…

For me Campaign and Multiplayer are as equally important as each other. Halo 1 had an amazing Campaign but a limited multiplayer, Halo 2 had a poor Campaign but incredible multiplayer… you know? Both of those games are dear to me for different reasons and I loved Halo 3 because I could have just that one game and enjoy everything on the disc. Halo Reach… well it wasn’t a terrible game but it didn’t have the best Campaign or best Multiplayer.

For me Halo is about both of those features. If it has a weak Campaign or Multiplayer then its just not going to be up there with the best of the Halo games.

I give you one million dollars if you can define a “true fan”, so that you can catogorize people by who are true fans and who aren’t. In reality, that is an impossibility. You see, in this context, both “true” and “a fan” are subjective terms. You can’t simply say “I’m more of a Halo fan because I have played more” or “You’re not a true Halo fan because you haven’t read all the books”.

People play the game for different reasons. Some play solely for the story and to them, multiplayer is just a bonus. Some play solely for the multiplayer and never even touch the campaign. Thus a true Halo fan is a fan who deeply appreciates the game on some level, whether it be gameplay or story or anything else.

But I’d still say that to be a good Halo fan, you need to understand the people who are fans in a different way than you are. To me, every part of Halo is equally important. Whether the discussion is about story or competitive gameplay, I enjoy sharing my information and opinions.

But what comes to the main point of this thread, the question? I can’t personally answer to it. “The whole game” sounds irritatingly cliche, but that’s only thing I can say. I’m waiting every part of the game with equal anticipation.

Well i have over 15,000 combined halo 3 ranked games. I played halo 2 more than i played halo 3.

Halo multiplayer is included in the term “halo” fyi.

In terms of replayability definately. I do agree, i just think people should be looking foward to the next story in our beloved Haloverse, as well as MC’s next chapter a lot more than MP. Although im glad theyre throwing story into MP this time round

So do I. The competitive part I mean, unfortunately it doesn’t really translate with random’s, but its nice to find good solid competitive teammates that know callouts and whatnot… as for Halo 4, I like what they are doing, whether people speculate on it or not, we won’t know what the system plays out like till we see the game. Who knows what changes are happening at this very moment…

> I don’t complain because my type of player has gone down the drain and other players who love abilities that go “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, look at what I can do!” and all of that flashy stuff which I believe detracts from the gameplay.

True story, but hey, competitive gamers are just distinguishing themselves under different lights. either way, I doubt any Halo game ever produced could be dropped of the competitive gamers that love it so…

Quit your complainin rookie…

To each their own. If they want to play multiplayer and that’s all, their fate… I’m fine. I get a hard (or rather hardly… this is 343, I’m sure there’s a grif somewhere in that 200 or whatever people…) worked on storyline. If they want to miss out on that, tough luck for them…

> They don’t understand the story.

Ok…

nothing wrong with this…

Good story. Now strap in, and get ready for a combat drop… Halo 4 style. It’s coming if you haven’t heard…

There’s no such thing as a “true fan”. However, I firmly believe that the most important aspect of any Halo game is the Campaign.

I have invested hundreds of hours into Halo 2’s campaign, don’t tell me that Multiplayer is the only way to replay the game in the long run.

Especially with things such as Firefight and Forge+ Custom Games.

MM is only a small part of that.

Did you read the " letter from the competitive community"? I suggest reading it and the discussions before you assume its a complaint thread.

Halo has an amazing universe, but it wouldn’t have expanded so much without the profits that the multiplayer brings in.

I said the story, just because it’s special.

But I have to say I am buying it for every reason out there. story, multiplayer, fun, friends, you name it.

just to clarify i do agree with MP being nescisary, and its amazing, ive never devoted so much time to an online game as i have the Halo games, i just wish Campaign/The story had more importance in the forums.

After reading the two books in the forerunner trilogy its all i can think about and it was sad to come onto the forums and see nearly every topic is either a complaint or a thread about MP

It could be because there are much more topics to discuss about pertaining to gameplay than there are pertaining to story. As I said in the previous post of mine, to me gameplay and story are as important. However, happen you to see my posts scattered around this forum, my posts mostly concern multiplayer. The thing is that it is a much bigger point of discussion at the moment. But I recommend the Universe section of the forums if you want to discuss about story, it tends to be the place where the more heavy story stuff is discussed about, the stuff that the large majority isn’t as interested in.

The campaign has always been the most important to me for Halo.
