Now the trick is that the other weapons are balanced correctly whereas the DMR is not.
My evidence to this claim?
The DMR has almost zero recoil/bloom, this means that the weapon is not only deadly at long range but also mid range and close quarters as well.
Now while in reality firearms do not get less accurate up close, we are talking about a game here and balance > realism. This is especially so when it comes to Halo.
Now I believe Halo:Reach actually had things right with the DMR and bloom/recoil.
If the weapon is to be balanced correctly all that needs to be applied is a reasonable amount of recoil that forces it to be used in its intended role as a sniping and long range weapon, where the shooter must time and chain his/her shots rather than spam 1-2-3-4-5 your dead!
This would help to ensure more skill based combat, in my opinion.
Additionally de-scoping needs to be returned so that suppressive fire can actually be considered useful in a firefight.

Your opinion suddenly became worthless to me upon reading this sentence. The DMR in reach was so terribly implemented it practically killed the game - it promoted snail-slow gunplay, and made the game horrendously boring to play or watch.
The DMR in halo 4 promotes fast, long distance gunplay, which forces players to be hyper-aware to survive. It has made the game good again, probably better than halo 3, and a -Yoink–ton better than reach.
Saying “Leave the DMR Alone” doesn’t change anything my friend.
While you and some others might be content for “everyone to just use the DMR” to be competitive, that is not the point of Halo, it is not meant to be a flavor of the month kind of game.
There is supposed to be variety, skill, and of course challenge. That is what Halo is about.
But then people would complain that there isn’t enough bloom when they get killed by people who spam.
Bloom probably isn’t the solution to the issue. Because then people would use it more often up close instead of at a distance.
Maybe a change to Rate of Fire? But as far as i have seen, if you miss one or two shots with the DMR in a fight you will lose. This would discourage people using it up close. But honestly it is meant to be mid to long range.
Apart from the fact its over kill on BTB maps i can’t think of any other reason to nerf it.
I honestly like it more now then in Reach. Reach DMR was way to luck based. Halo 4 DMR is less so.

No opinions are worthless.
Additionally it dawned upon me that the only thing that kept the DMR in Reach from being the death machine it is here in Halo 4 was in fact the Bloom/Recoil.
The only people who complained so much about Bloom/Recoil in Reach were the scrubadubs who didn’t know how to time their shots rather than mash their right trigger down in futility.
@Xerkos, I disagree with your opinion on the DMR being luck based. From personal experience, I found that more often than not, timing my shots or learning to close the gap for a well placed melee often brought victory.

The only thing that the DMR promotes is camping on big maps, there is no gun play or effective team work. If you have a team of people who can 5 shot(Anyone) then you simply pick some high ground and kill everyone from extreme range.
No movement, no map flow, just DMR’s. This game is nothing like Halo 3, though it is better than Reach.
> Something needs to give, BTB maps are completely unused since both teams just stand on the fringes using DMR’s.

that just isn’t true, at all. BTB maps are filled with people in vehicles, and people running around with crazy one-shot-kill guns etc. I constantly see people all over the maps doing a wide variety of things. DMRs work well in BTB for punishing players in bad positions - i.e - in vulnerable open spots. And people SHOULD be punished for being in bad positions.
Basically the DMR has made the game more challenging, because players have to be even more spacially aware of every possible place others could be shooting from.
Bad players get punished, ruthlessly, and I like that, because it promotes skilled, thoughtful play.

Nothing is stopping you from using other weapons. The choice is there.

I have played a LOT of BTB with a full party since the game has released and if we run into another team then the whole game is a massive DMR fight from cover.
God forbid a DMR live up to it’s reputation of being an accurate and powerful mid/long range rifle. If you think BTB has turned into a snipe fest you’re wrong. I’ve yet to have issues with people camping in their base with DMRs. Sniper rifles? Sure, but that’s the point of having a sniper rifle.
A bit off-topic here, but I am often finding myself confused as to what people complained about Reach for.
I’ve been playing Halo since CE and while I may not have agreed with everything in Halo:Reach I never found myself in a situation that I felt I was unable to overcome. Whether it was Armor Lock, Armor Abilities in general, or the sometimes cheesy storyline (especially with abysmal lack of character development in the campaign)
None of it was unplayable… while here, only in Halo 4, with a multiplayer that I can only describe as “Call of Halo” do I find myself frustrated to a point of having nothing better to do than sign onto my computer and play “Chivalry: Medieval Warfare” or even worse… Mortal Online…
The point is I’ve never seen a multiplayer so bad… except for Call of Duty…and in essence that is what the Halo 4 Multiplayer has become… Call of Duty with a Halo skin… It brings great sadness, and frustration… the only thing I personally can do is hope that it gets better… or fear for the worst in future Halo titles.

Agreed with your post 100% up until this point!
Bloom promotes complete luck, it’s not a solution it’s an even bigger problem which makes the initial DMR seeming over-powered look like a joke.
> The only people who complained so much about Bloom/Recoil in Reach were the scrubadubs who didn’t know how to time their shots rather than mash their right trigger down in futility.
sigh. You clearly no nothing about what has made halo such a competitive game.
The introduction of bloom and a need to pace your shots made the game sluggish, clunky, slow-paced, and mind–numbingly boring. Why do you think reach is widely regarded as the worst halo game ever made? Why do you think it died out so quickly? Because it deviated from fast-paced super-accurate gunplay which relied entirely on player skill, and introduced slow, randomised gunplay which relied on taking your time shooting to make sure you hit every shot. That is just not halo, one little bit. It literally destroyed the game.
So here we are with halo 4, and thank the gods, they have given us back a nicely ranged utility rifle. And low and behold, these kids that got used to the sub-par gameplay of halo 3 and reach, where you could be a random noob and still be able to wander around aimlessly in the middle of the map without getting killed [because NO ONE CAN EVEN REACH THEM WITH ANY GUN OTHER THAN THE SNIPER], are now throwing their toys out of the pram because they are getting severly punished for walking around mid-map.

Well there’s always the option to not play online bud. It sucks that you don’t enjoy it man. Though, being an Mw2 -Yoink!-, I can say with confidence that I have never felt like I was playing COD when playing this game. Our opinions obviously differ because I think aside from some obvious issues, the online play is great.

If I could, I would flame you so hard right now after reading this.
The highlighted sentence is easily the most stupid thing I have ever read. How can anyone enjoy being shot from long distances, where the enemy has higher ground so it becomes extremely difficult to return fire? The DMR is much better than any other primary weapon in this game, it promotes people to camp on higher ground.
Halo 3 had the best gameplay because it was relatively mid-ranged. Meaning movement around the map was essential to keeping control of the map. Now, with the DMR you can hide in one spot and control the map because you are on higher ground and holding a mini-sniper.
