A rant about Warzone's current state

I could tolerate Warzone before. Sure the bosses were terrible, some weapons are still overpowered, and it sucks having to receive the occasional steamroll, but other than that, Warzone was relatively balanced. Now, however, I could not hate Warzone more than I ever have before. In EVERY SINGLE GAME, someone gets completely steamrolled. Once they’ve begun to lose, there’s no coming back.

The first and arguably the only thing to decide victory is who captures the center base. With that center base, you have fast and easy access to high-value bosses, and/or better vehicle spawns. Worst of all, the team with the center base can now relentlessly assault the other team’s base until it’s captured. The center base was overpowered before, and even more so with this new system where games can so easily become lopsided.

Now comes the most infuriating part of Warzone that I couldn’t stand then or now: bosses. I understand part of the reason 1 kill = 2 points now is so the team that lost the lead can more easily recover when the other team kills a boss. There’s only one problem with that: the reason the other team got that boss kill in the first place was because it was more skilled and better equipped than your team, so you couldn’t gain the lead anyway because the other team is better than yours. You’ll remain behind, they’ll continue to thrive, so it all ends up being pointless.

Another reason 343 changed kill values was so the games wouldn’t be as long so the losing team wouldn’t have to get steamrolled for the lengths they have been going through pre-update. Now the games are so short that the losing team can barely even try to turn the match around before it’s over. Remember when Palmer told you you could still destroy the enemy core? Now, if you’re on the losing team, you can’t even attempt to do that because your teammates don’t have time to collect themselves and reach a decent REQ level because your enemies have the center base and killed the 100-point boss and you’re losing 200-700 and you’re level 5 while they’re level 8 and the match is almost over.

Remember that 200-point boss at the end that’s supposed to be the losing team’s final chance to turn the game around? Now, the game ends 5 seconds after the boss spawns, and even if you have time to beat it, you’re losing 500-800, so it would really make much of a difference, or enemy team would just end up killing it anyway, so there really isn’t a point to it being there.

In my opinion, there are 2 ways this mode has any chance of recovering: either revert it back to the way it was, or REMOVE BOSSES. Right now, bosses are a huge factor for the massive gap between each team’s score in every game, so if 343 could remove bosses, then maybe, just MAYBE, we’ll see some balance in this mode. The center base wouldn’t be so overpowered, but still be a vital position to hold in any match.

You could even have a boss-less Warzone playlist if you love bosses so much, just PLEASE do SOMETHING about this! Warzone is not fun anymore, whether you win or lose, because either way you go, it just never seems fair. I want to feel like I’ve met my match, to have a game where two massive, yet EQUAL armies clash for MORE than 2 minutes before one side gets the upper hand and completely obliterates the other side, and this Warzone just doesn’t have that. Now, I can’t play a single match of Warzone without thinking, “I am so tired of this happening every single game.” I can’t enjoy it. IT’S NOT FUN.

Discuss.

Its a shame that last boss doesn’t even come into play anymore, some of the best matches I have had were decided by that. The rest I can deal with for the most part. Im still ticked about the H2Br & extended mag change, I barley touch WZ anymore.

I can see where you’re coming from with being frustrated over the center base. Most, if no all games become very uphill if you lose that spot. It’s not impossible, but you need a highly coordinated team to get it back. The bosses I could do with or without, I wouldn’t mind seeing a boss less Warzone to see how it would turn out. Rather than seeing multiple people run for a boss that won’t help anyways vs trying to get a base back can be frustrating. The final boss is almost irrelevant at this point, I agree with that. I don’t know, I always have and still continue to have mixed games of getting steam rolled, doing the steam rolling and an occasional evenly matched game. I think Warzone is just one of those playlists that will be frustrating one way or the other, not to say it’s not fun, but it can definitely be a frustrating experience.

Whenever I get matches like these, I’d say it’s better to play something else entirely. World of Tanks was a pleasant surprise for me; this poor guy couldn’t scratch my armor, lol

Warzone isn’t meant to be balanced really. Its meant to be a “war” zone. So yeah steam rolls are going to happen more so than a mode that is meant to be balanced. Also the “balance” in warzone is req dependant. So if players aren’t playing the right reqs at the right time then it’s easy for a game to turn into a steam roll. Warzone is a good concept it just really needs way smarter enemy AI… Bosses should really navigate the map more and hunt down spartans. You can ignore bosses in many cases and they just sit there. They also should attack and be able to capture the armories and bases. That would make warzone work better… Teams couldn’t just ignore the enemy AI while steam rolling the other team.

Warzone at launch was much friendlier on solo players.

Warzone now is much more competitive for teams.

Neither was perfect, and a middle ground to make everyone happy likely isn’t very possible.

Part of the problem was 343 couldn’t anticipate the Warzone meta changing so much plus everything else like farming and population issues. They could adjust little things like REQ values and point scoring, but I guarantee they aren’t going to remove the bosses.
