A quick statement on Halo's music

So for all of you that keep wishing for the old music to return in full force (nevermind the art style) I would like to point out two of my favorite moments from Halo: the warthog run at the end of Halo 3 and the broadsword flight at the end of Halo 4.
Now imagine the warthog run with the 117 music from Halo 4. Does it work as well? No.
But also imagine the broadsword flight with the drum-heavy music of the warthog run. Does that work? I think not.
What I’m trying to say here is that the new music has just as much of a claim to being “Halo music” as the old does.
The scene in Halo 3 where the new halo rises out of the Ark? What if that had the psychedelic hums and beeps of the scene in Halo 4 when you first come out of the cave after crashing on Requiem and seeing the colossal floating towers? It wouldn’t work as well.
What if the scene with the towers on Requiem had the ominous music of that scene with the new halo in Halo 3? It wouldn’t work.
Both kinds of music are needed in balance in the future. They both are incredible, but simply should be used for different things.

The climax of the Halo 4 Broadsword scene features music that is extremely reminiscent of the original Halo theme; moreso than any other music from halo 4. There is a reason for that. The original Halo theme is naturally climatic.

Also, I would assert that the piano riff from Halo 3’s Warthog run would work very well in Halo 4’s Broadsword scene.

You’re not making a very convincing case here. Obviously, we can agree that a given track from one scene wouldn’t necessarily work in another, but that doesn’t mean that the track that appears in the scene is the only track that could ever work.

It’s not like we who don’t like the new music want all the same old tracks back (though there are a few that are iconic enough to deserve a comeback), but that we don’t think the new music does justice to the identity of Halo, or that the new music sounds good. Sure, the music that is in those Halo 4 scenes probably do fit the scenes better than the ones from Halo 3 you make comparisons (though the Warthog run music does work reasonably well when played on top of the Broadsword scene), but that doesn’t mean there isn’t music that would sound better and work equally well, or even better, in those scenes.

If this is your strongest defense of the new music, that it sounds better in a scene than another piece of music that wasn’t made for that scene, then your not doing much convincing us about the value of the new music.

Finally, this is all of course very subjective. I can claim all day that the traditional Warthog run music also works reasonably well in the Broadsword scene, but it’s not like you have to agree with me.
