After a ranked battle and you view the recap next to players spartan rank there is either a green or red arrow,green is pointing up and red is facing down (looks more like a chevron symbol).What is that an indication of?

Those red/green chevrons is telling you whether or not a player is gaining or losing CSR, which determines your Arena rank in H5.

That is if you gained or lost your CSR rank. There are two ranks you have in Halo you have your Spartan Rank (SR) which is based on XP points which gain every game regardless of winning or losing. Then you have your CSR rank which is performance based. Typically goes up with a win and down with a loss. The amount you gain or lose also depends on the ranks of opponents. If you beat higher ranked players you will gain more than if you beat lower ranked players. Just like you won’t lose quite as many if you get beat by way higher ranked players.
