So this is a question to owners of the campaign on disc.
With the recent patches, could you still fresh install the campaign offline and not update the game, thereby having access to the tankgun and other prepatch tricks?

The disc doesn’t have the full game so you need to be online.
Say whaaaaa? Doesn’t have the full game? What does it have?
I don’t know but it’s not playable.
Uggggghhhhhhhhhhh
I’ve got 20 coconuts standing in a row
All the disc gives you is a “key” to play the campaign of the game.
It has been this way for a few years now, with several other franchises too. This isn’t just a Halo thing. (not justifying it, just clarifying.)
Nope. And yes it’s yoinking stupid. You don’t even own a copy of the game, all you own is a physical key saying yes you own it. Anyone who puts out a disc without the game should honestly be criminalized. The direction the game industry is going is a complete joke and insult to the community.
It’s so wasteful all around too.
A few years ago they tried to go all digital and get rid of physical copies and this is them doing it again.
But with Xbox buying everything up, we might soon not have a choice.
welcome to every triple A game since what 2015? MS knew people would complain if they forced online only devices, so instead they forced it down our throats with badly optimized games that can’t fit on a disc anymore.
If it wasn’t was for pure circumstance the Xbox One generation was going to be my final stint in gaming
What you are describing is impossible. The Xbox consoles cannot write to disc, which means no physical copy can be “patched” to include more content. 343 saw fit to include basically nothing on the campaign disc, so enjoy your paper weight.
