A question for sprint fans and those against it.

Let me start off by saying that I feel pretty certain that spartan charge is one of the most disliked game mechanics in all of halo. However, when you have sprint, even if you remove spartan charge, players can run around and simply double melee people. While I do enjoy the game in its current state, this seems to me like a problem because it encourages brainlessly running around the map. At this point you might be wondering where I’m going with this, just wait, I’m getting there.

Fans of the current iteration of halo enjoy the fast paced game play of halo 5. In my opinion, the speed of the game was greatly affected by sprint and the spartan abilities. So if many fans like the current speed halo, how do you make a game that pleases fans of halo 5’s game play, makes old school fans happy and solves the spartan charge/double melee problem?

I propose you remove sprint and spartan charge, increase the base player speed to promote fast movement, and keep the thruster pack, clamber, optional stabilize, and ground pound in the game. Now maps don’t have to be designed around sprint, double melee and spartan charge don’t encourage brainless sprinting, guns can always be ready, and the game can keep its fast paced movement with the thruster pack, clamber, and stabilize jumps.

I created this thread to see what the community thought about it. Would this work and would it make both new and old school fans happy?

I think it is fine as it is. There are pretty easy ways to counter spartan charge by meleeing at the right time. The only time its annoying when you get from behind but when it happens tells me i just need to watch radar and my surroundings better. I rarely ever use spartan charge much easier to kill people with guns. Im a old school fan and i love sprint. The game needs to evolve and become more complex to stay relevant.

Sounds fun although it would logically seem weird to walk extremely fast across the map.

This is like saying how do you please fans of yellow while pleasing fans of purple and giving them brown, yuck.

I think the older games (before sprint) and Halo 5 are fun in their own way. Mixing them to try and please people who strongly prefer one side or even people like me who enjoy both will just make everyone mad. The oldschool fans will still complain about clamber, stabilizer, and thrusters while the new fans will be like “where the hell is sprint?”

Long story short the game game needs sprint for these new mechanics to fit.

Why are we still discussing sprint in halo 5 about 7 months after launch?

This^

sprint and thrust is fine with me i just think spartan charge is dumb and should go. increasing base movement speed would feel even less like halo (we’re not playing Doom). at least having speed increased with sprint means you have to think about when to use it and when not to, and still provides the firefights that we’re used to.

This is actually what I want. I didn’t mind sprint in halo but after playing some Overwatch I was reminded how much more I liked halo without sprint. I also think that a widened POV and a little faster base speed with the Spartan abilities would provide faster gameplay without as much hiding and create a more intense but skillful game.

Spartan charge is a cheap and annoying mechanic, yes. But, it not overpowered, if you see someone sprinting at you move back or thrust to the side, they will waste time while you fill them with bullets, or burst their armor down and that satisfying pop of a headshot. Not defending spartan charge, because I do hate it, but it is easily countered if you just move yourself.

Brainlessly running around the map? Not sure what you mean. I like the sprint because it has a nice compromise in the fact that you can’t shoot and your shields do not recharge. As for feeling, I always found it annoying and laughable that super soldiers could not sprint and they just trudged and dawdled around the battlefield. The sprint is not bad at all, it is balanced and it feels right for this kind of game. Sprint does not need removing.

Yeah I don’t want people to think I don’t like sprint. I guess I should’ve put this in the OP but Halo 5 has probably my favorite multiplayer out of all of the halos. I just was trying to think of something to bring the community together.

As far as spartan charge goes, I wish they would at least nerf the way it seems to track you even when you thrust sometimes.

Edit: Yeah Brainlessly running around the map. I’ve noticed players tend to develop a tendency of sprinting as soon as they spawn without thinking of where they need to go.

Unfortunately there will always be things that some like that others don’t, that’s just how it is.

i think people who are old school fans THINK they would like increased base speed over sprint. but i have a feeling they would play it and hate how it feels. increased base speed would feel even less like the original halos than spartans with sprint ability.

I like to think of it like this:
Original Halo Spartans were like Scorpions. Slow and powerful, but tough
H5 Spartans are like Wraiths. Can move slowly and methodically, but capable of higher speeds. Still a tank.
Spartans with increase base speed would feel like a Ghost, or heaven forbid, a gungoose. and lord knows that we don’t need any more gungeese.

I have to agree, Halo 5 is my favorite multiplayer out of the Halo’s as well. If they work on it, and improve the flaws, Halo 6 multiplayer could be amazing. And I do agree with you, spartan charge is annoying and the tracking can be so bs at times. But, its one of those things, you either think it needs nerfing or you don’t. As for the people running off with no clue where to go from spawn, that’s annoying, but they eventually find the way haha

I have a question for OP. OP would you be content if the game had a specific gametype, lets call it “halo classic” that had sprint , thrust, Spartan charge and ground pound turned off with the H2 BR as a starting weapon?

I want to first state, if this thread brought up new and constructive ideas about Sprint, then I would probably not have locked this thread. But it does not and it is bringing up the same question/discussion that has been argued plenty of times, since Reach.
