A power weapon SHOTGUN: we need one

HEAR ME OUT…

A dual barreled breakaway shotgun.

Now I hear you saying “Eva, that’s literally just the Super Shotgun from DOOM”

Yes it is. And I see literally nothing wrong with this what so ever.

If it’s going to be a 2 shot.
Fine…

But increase the damage from 50% per shot to 60%.

Feels like shooting air, not even threatened when facing a bulldog.

Regular movement almost any other weapon and melee are stronger.

By changing the settings on said weapons? First time playing Halo?

Unless we can change the rate of fire and reload speed in Custom Game settings (I think Halo 5 had reload speed modifiers if I remember correctly) then the Bulldog does still fundamentally function at least somewhat differently from the old, shell loaded pump action. I like the Bulldog in the normal sandbox contrary to some opinions, but I do think it raises some questions for Infection.

If you make Zombies easy to one-shot then the Bulldog shoots much faster than the old shotgun and reloads 7 rounds at once.

If you make Zombies require 2+ shots then the Energy Sword becomes immensely more deadly since a full health Bulltrue will be extremely difficult.

No I’m serious. I took note of how fast it took for me to kill someone / how fast I died to someone since launch of this game.

Face-to-face with someone vs from behind with just bullets, it seems that Halo Infinite does have decreased damage to limbs when compared to the torso and head.

Shooting someone from behind and targeting their torso with an AR has a different TTK than if I was shooting someone from the front with an AR.
This is because from the front, your shots also land on the enemy player’s arms as they are holding a gun in front of their torso; while the torso from behind is completely exposed to all forms of damage without any other hitboxes blocking it.

Test it out in custom games to see what I mean.

I mean, Snipers counter was “cover” and “shoot them for descope.” There are a lot more counters in classic Halo than you’d expect.

My issue with the Sword and Hammer in this game, is that they absolutely dominate 4v4 maps. There’s a lot of cover on 4v4 maps, meaning you can’t get consistent, clear shots from them and they’re constantly pushing you away. With the addition of Equipment like the Grappleshot, Thrusters, and Repulsor, Sword and Hammer users have a lot more ways to get to you. Only Halo 5 offered more movement capabilities (and range) to the Sword and Hammer.
The primary issue with the added movement capabilities is that it results in a situation where Swords and Hammers can be used more offensively than ambush/defensively. This in turn means that one of the counters for Swords and Hammers is barely applicable - they can close the distance and then lunge. The Shotgun is no longer a Counter, so you’re now forced to rely on Equipment… Which doesn’t work. The Repulsor delays the inevitable. The GrappleShot can get you out of dodge, but that just gives someone else the problem to deal with (also, if the Sword user has a GrappleShot, you’re dead. There’s nothing you can do except use a Power Weapon). Thrusters don’t work. Drop Wall is a meme.

I am of the opinion that, while melee weapons are cool, they stick out like a sore thumb in weapon balance. You can’t make them anything but a one-shot kill (a role that was already filled by the more well-balanced shotgun, in my opinion), but they need some form of hard counter to ensure they don’t dominate matches. The issue with Halo Infinite is that distance just doesn’t matter anymore, and constantly repositioning means you’re likely to just fall into a nest of enemies. The Shotgun doesn’t work either. In my opinion, the only existing counter to a Sword user at this point are Plasma or Spike Grenades. If you can stick em before they kill you, that will kill them.

They need to bring back the shotgun from Halo CE that was the one that could hold 12 rounds you could carry 60 extra for and it also did more damage than any of the other shotguns in the Halo series

Which iteration of the shotgun should we go with?

H3? Or H5? I feel like H1’s might be a little much.

I agree, it also has my favorite design as it was just a tube with a pump on it. Sleek, simple, elegant flood killing machine. It also had the best range out of any shotgun if I’m not mistaken.

Why ya’ll hating on the M90 smh.

Wait the Halo CE shotty is the m90?

Well, it’s kinda got a lot of range. I’ve used it. It takes people OUT.

Yeah change the custom game settings that don’t work/don’t save/don’t even exist. Lul.

How about the Flak Cannon from Unreal Tournament?

No it’s not it’s how powerful shotgun should be if I was fighting the flood I would want to have Halo CE shotgun all the other shotguns in Halo series including the Bulldog sucks

I was more so talking about range. It has the largest out of all the iterations.

If we’re talking sword vs shotty, the shotgun and sword should be closer together range-wise. Make it hit as hard as ya want as long as it’s within reason.

I get the feel the shotgun’s existence is parrying the sword and vice versa.

I actually liked the design in Halo Reach and Halo 2 Anniversary and the Bulldog in Halo Infinite has better range but I also like the amount of ammo the shotgun in Halo CE can hold and how much extra we can carry for it so I would combine all 4 I would take the Halo Reach shotgun design give it the ability to hold 12 rounds like the Halo CE shotgun you would once again be able to carry 60 extra for it as well then I would give it the range and the fire rate of the Bulldog in Halo Infinite and the green lights from the Halo 2 Anniversary shotgun

Yeah it’s the human counter to the hammer and the sword which is why I’m pissed they got rid of it

Just put the Halo 3 shotgun in. It’s best suited in terms of range & damage to fit into Infinite.

Halo CE Shotgun is better

Halo 3 Shotgun had range?
