A poets thoughts on the Boltshot - Long Read

I like the gun. I think it fits into the weapon box very nicely. It adds variety and it looks cool. You can get head shots with it in a pinch and it gives a one shot kill option to those of us who are skilled enough to use it… And those who get lucky :wink:

It is pretty awesome.

I also feel that the weapon has a some work that needs to be done. Just my opinion on it. You know.

I think the distance in which its charge can kill might be a little long. I would prefer it if were reduced a little bit. I think the alternate fire should be a last ditch effort to get a kill or maybe like an ace in the hole. Because. When I use the AR sometimes I can begin shooting someone while walking towards them, they will turn around and eat my bullets and charge up and blast me. And it makes me go DARN.

If its charge blast kill distance was reduced some. I just feel like it would be more… balanced? I dont mind getting killed around corners. Or behind crates. Or from above. Or when people jump over my head when charging it and drop me like german class. JUST when im shooting first (with an AR and from 4 feet away) and all someone has to do is charge up and pull and they win. Mehs.

The other thing about it. It takes 5 bullets when you charge up the weapon and fire it. So you get 2 charge shots per clip. Or so i thought. I realized when I was playing that you can perform the charge blast with only 1 bullet in the clip. this bothers me. I feel that it would be better if you couldnt charge it unless you had at least 5 bullets in your clip. I dont know why, it just bothers me. Like a symmetry thing. I spent a lot of time reloading my gun (and dying) to make sure I had 5 shots when I COULD have just held down the trigger. I dont know if that bugs anyone else. AGAIN, these are my thoughts.

So with those two things in mind. MY THIRD THING TO SAY IS THIS!

My suggestion for this gun for those who feel it is OP entirely and should be removed… is to alter how it works. I think that if you changed it so that the gun only killed when it was charged with a FULL clip, it would be more even. And from there the amount of bullets in the clip would effect the damage dealt. This means that a 5 bullet clip would only drop the shields from full and/or still kill a spartan without any shields.

I think that the weapon could still be utilized at a high level and would make it more diverse itself. You would be forced to decide to go for a head shot, reload your weapon for max damage OR calculate how much damage you’re going to do with your remaining charge and pick your next move. It would also stop someone like me from getting a guaranteed Double kill without any shields because I know how to strafe and bait people around corners :wink:

Also, I feel someone using dexterity upgrade wouldn’t mind this option so much anyways cause the reload time is so quick.

My final thoughts, I heard there is some kind of glitch that allows people to use a double charge shot in a short amount of time. Can anyone confirm that? Tell me more about it?

But seriously, that is a nice idea. 5 shots would merely drop the shields, but then if you’re going to do that you might as well get rid of the cool down time every after charge shot.

I also have to say they have to address that reload glitch. I don’t use it much nor have I seen other players use it, but I have tried it and it’s too fast for its own good.
