343 Forge is absolutely amazing. You have given us tools that we have dreamed of for years. However, there are still major flaws that need to be addressed. Namely that we need customizable control layouts. It makes no sense that we can’t have LT to boost, LB to descend, and RB to ascend as a selectable control scheme. Especially when theater still uses that classic layout.
Are there any constructive criticisms that you guys have?
This is not meant to devolve into a “343 iz teh suxorz!” thread, so please keep it civil.
I dislike the movement controls that 343 introduced. Movement seems so slow and time consuming now, while you could zoom around the map in previous versions. I know there’s a boost button (L3), but that seems extremely temperamental. Other than that, I’m loving the new Forge and currently working on a Breakout map.
The only thing I have so far is that I want more options for scripting. I built a garage with working doors earlier as part of a base but the only way I can close the doors is to jump out of my vehicle and hit a button to close them. What I’d like to see is the ability to have them on a delay timer after I start a vehicle so I can leave and they will close behind me or an invisible barrier I can put in front of the door that when a vehicle passes through can close the door.
The object grouping didn’t turn out to work nearly as I imagine it would. I select multiple objects, duplicate them, and try to move them or rotate them and they then go all over the place and come apart. It really kind of defeats the purpose.

If you want them all to act as one unit you have to hit x and select create a group. Otherwise they will all do the same thing in their position.
We need all of the old forge pieces backKind of hard to remake Lockout without the right blocks, or Blood Gulch.
We need more variety in piecesI realized after trying to place shield doors that there is only one kind and they’re limited in size.
No more on-way shields, no more non-destructible shields.
We need more gametype options in forgeMakes it hard to realize your perfect map when half of the options are missing.
No King of the Hill, no Flood, no Oddball…
We need more features from H2A’s forgeSeriously why add in so many awesome scripting options and forge objects just to remove them?
We need to be able to place REQ card weapons and vehicles in forgeKind of lame that you can’t spawn a tundra hog on a snow map or a woodland one on a forest map.
We need options to change vehicle colors againIt was fun having colored mongeese or hogs.
Am I missing something here or are these maps insanely small? I fly over a rock on glacier kill boundary, I fly a little high (which really isn’t high at all compared to previous games) I explode, I fly a little passed the soft kill zone I explode. I didn’t even know where to begin my map on glacier because I already knew there wasn’t enough room. I’ve defended 343 so many times but this is getting ridiculous. With every step forward there seems to be 5 steps back. Why were the forge areas in Halo 2A massive and now all of a sudden they shrunk to less than a quarter of the size? Please can anyone explain this?

Wait seriously? That’s awesome if that fixes the issue.
Whatever you all do, DON’T save your game and turn off your console with your controller!! I did that last night after spending hours on hours building a good BTB map and now I can’t edit any of my map…my character is just frozen. It always loaded fine until I did that so I’m helping you all out!! I know of others this happened to so everyone be careful about that because I’m screwed out of my map now
I honestly haven’t even given Forge a solid attempt yet. I’m not an expert forger by any means. That being said, the simple fact of remapping ascend and descend to A and B as opposed to having A be select/deselect object really bothers me. Enough to the point that I don’t even want to attempt forging.

This has something to do with deleting the initial spawns on the map. See forgehub thread on forge bugs for more info.

It was done so that your fingers don’t need to move off the sticks as much. Anyone who spends serious time with forge can appreciate this, but the option to change this would be nice.
Forge has a higher learning curve than before, with the benefit of this being more control and options. This is fine on its own. This means that less people are going to Forge in general, which is also fine on it’s own. Forge isn’t for everyone.
The problem comes with the fact that we lack basic file searching/browsing functionality that was a given 7 years ago. Now, less people are going to be making maps because it’s harder, thus limiting map circulation, exposure, and community appeal, and less maps are going to be circulated and discovered due to the fact that you can only see - manually - maps that your friends have made. Because everyone knows that adding random people on Xbox willy nilly is just super convenient, a good way to stay organized, and is very intuitive.
No. Forge is useless without a basic means of seeing and sharing maps to people other than your friends, which compounds with the fact that forging is less convenient.
Don’t get me wrong - the new features are awesome, and the complexity of controls I feel is worth the sacrifice. Unfortunately, Forge is a mere gimmick without file browsing and community features. (Psst, that, again, we had 7 years ago in a basic form, and 5 years ago in a streamlined, advanced form).

Forge is unusable for me now. the Forge Controls are Just … Bad. the old controls need to return thats a fact. they were so much better. i even tried to rotate a piece to the point i wanted it. omg that rotation is awful. you cant precisely rotate it anymore like you could with the right thumb stick. the Blocks are all by inches now instead of just telling you what they are. like Platform large. now its like platforms, 1" 5" 32" like my god. way to make it even more confusing. and some of the maps are just so Small. Parallax is the worst. the ceiling and floor of the map are so close to each other. its unbelievable, alpine looks ok. wasn’t expecting much from the breakout arena. and glacier really disappointed me. that large open field isn’t even fully accessible. as of right now i have to give Halo 5s forge a 6/10 this is worse then Halo:2A
Forge uses an abysmal amount of data to play. A little over 250 MBs an hour. Unfortunately its one of those things you’ll end up playing for hours. Reach and 4 forge didn’t do this.
Just me, only forge, no party chat or anything else running. A continual connection to data hungry servers shouldnt be necessary for forge.
