A Personal, Honest Opinion of Halo 4

I’ve have been playing Halo since the first day of Halo: Combat Evolved’s release. I have purchased every game since then on the first day of release. Halo: Combat Evolved was great. It had fair, simple gameplay and the maps were very creative and enjoyable. It also took a fair amount of skill to succeed and had a fantastic campaign. Halo 2 was a great leap foward from its predecessor. The campaign was a bit bogged down compared to Halo: Combat Evolved’s, but it was still very enjoyable. The multiplayer was the best part. It was so good, fair, and balanced that I played it like I had no life (which was sad, because I was thirty-eight at the time). It was very competitve, which was a major factor of its great success. Halo 3 then came out. It was a small step down, for me that is, to Halo 2. The campaign was a bit boring for me and the multiplayer was exceptional. It had the Halo 2 factor of competitiveness, which made it fun and worth playing. The only downfall with this game was the lag. It wasn’t all the time, but when the lag did hit you, it would hit hard. Halo Wars was great for an RTS, Halo 3: ODST had a great storyline, and Halo: Reach was Halo: Reach. Now when Halo 4 was released, I went to buy myself a copy at my local Game Stop at midnight. I put the game in my fine, glossy white Xbox 360 Slim, sat on my leather recliner and popped myself some Nero d Avola, because I am just a classy fellow. I played one game of War Games and went to bed, because an old man needs his sleep. The one game I played was the best game I’ve played in the Halo franchise, which is saying something. The next morning, I started playing and that is when I experienced the utter crap that is sadly Halo 4. The horrific amounts of lag that sucks horrific amounts of sac, the boring, noob-friendly maps, and the killcam that doesn’t do anything is just a little of what I experienced. The maps are made for anything to happen, which isn’t good at all because it makes the game less competitve and strategic and the killcam that only works when you aren’t experiencing the horrific lag. After, I experience all of this, I decided the campaign and Spartan Ops can’t be this bad. I was right. The campaign was enjoyable and had a realistic story and Spartan Ops gives you the feel like you are actually a Spartan fighting for the human race. I tried Forge and it is really the same compared to Halo: Reach’s forge. The only differences are the highlighters, duplicating, and giving the building some realistic physics. I then tried Custom Games. Custom Games is plain garbage. There isn’t anything “custom” to it. To be honest, I feel that Halo: Combat Evolved’s multiplayer is far more customizable compared to Halo 4’s. You can’t take out sprint or change the damage intake and outtake. Another sad thing is that the “New Custom Search” doesn’t even work. How can I look for classic maps and gametypes if this tool, in a sense, doesn’t exist? These problems are the reasons why I am now playing Call of Duty: Black Ops II. I will of course come back to Halo, my home, once this new developer gets there stuff together. Thanks.

Halo 4 is the magic 8 ball game of the Halo franchise. Just utterly random.

Hahahaha I agree with you. That first game you play you realize their is so much potential but its up to 343 to fix the enormous amount of problems

I had that experience as well. I think my first game was on Complex and I remember thinking “Whoa this is actually a lot of fun!” and then it all went immediately downhill until I stopped playing altogether.

Metacritic - 87

Sounds pretty high now that I’ve had time with the game.

An 87 is a bit too high. It deserves a 69, if anything.

I think this game is fun, i just don’t like the direction it’s going in. So my call of duty-ish things are in it that make me sad. I like halo becuase it was different from all the other fps games that were coming out, but now, now not so much. I though 343i were Halo fans, not undercover cod fans. The sad part is that people don’t see the game for what it really is(cod with halo), and are just in complete denial. I’m still enjoying playing the game with friends though, and spartan ops is always an exciting thing to look forward to. The game hasn’t even been out for a month, so i’ll see where 343 takes my favorite franchise of all time.

Oh yes, Call of Duty. I forgot to mention that in my list of grievances. I agree with you about the direction Halo is going into. Besides, Halo shouldn’t be taking concepts from Call of Duty. The only good Call of Duty was Call of Duty 2, in my opinion.

this is the exact definition of wall of text lol

whenever i hear players say that halo 1 and halo 2 was balanced and less buggy than 4, i just laugh

Wall of text? I take it you weren’t born when those games were released, or wasn’t old enough to play, or couldn’t afford Xbox LIVE at that time. You made an error not reading my post correctly. I said nothing about Halo 4 being less balanced than the other two. I said it was laggy and had features that didn’t work. Of course the other two games lagged, but not nearly as much as Halo 4. I suggest you reading the post next time.
