I am hoping to see a little more details of the childhood of John 117, in HALO4. Maybe, in the form of possible flash backs. For those who have never played HALO and know nothing of the story. It could help bring them up to date. And for those that love the story, it would kind of, put an image to all the stories they have read. Just a thought!
Halo: The Fall of Reach (Novels and Comics).
Wish granted.

About 10 years ago a book was released about his Childhood. I suggest reading it.
During the Halo 4 halofest panel, or perhaps the Halo universe panel, Frankie said that they were very interested in exploring Johns past, as so much of the fan base knows nothing of the tragic story.
So your wish may be granted…
If they DO plan on having Fred Linda and Kelly play a role going forward (in halo 4 and beyond…), they will need to…
I know the details of all 3 Spartan programs from books. That is one of the reasons, I would like to see it covered in the game. You read all these stories and your mind seems to hunger for more. Something you can see, that you have read being played out.
I think you must be carefull with the storys about john-117
if you make him to heavy ( fild with story’s ) for the halo universe it will become difficult to take him from one scene to the other and the the halo story will become more limited
you still have room to shape him but dont over-do it
Agree!
We don’t need anymore focus on John’s past. Seriously, he isn’t that deep of a character.

The fact that he’s not a very deep character is the very reason why we need more information on his past. He needs to grow as a character and although we’ve seen it in the books, it would be nice to see it in the games as well. Especially for those who don’t read the books.

He lived a relatively normal childhood, had friends, liked to play and then got conscripted into the Spartan-II Program. There, I saved you the trouble. Why not focus on the present?

We don’t need to hear the same old crap a third time. If you failed to read the books or the comics, then too bad.
Chief was kept as an intentionally empty character to allow the audience to put themselves into his shoes, to believe that they were the protagonist of the Halo series (according to several interviews with Bungie employees I’ve read where somebody asks ‘why don’t we know anything about the Chief?’)
Halo: Reach’s system works better, where you get to actually customise a character and you are actually the protagonist of the game. Going halfway and having a main character you know very little about seems like lazy storytelling in hindsight - I hope they give him more interesting dialogue in future titles.

I find it funny that you complain about the “One Dimensional” characters in Glasslands yet you openly say the Chief isn’t a deep enough character and yet we don’t need back story. Then you provide some half baked, extremely vague description of his past and consider that good enough. It’s as if to say that you don’t care if the Chief is a faceless once dimensional character yet you hate those types of characters. So do you hate the Chief or are you just a hypocrite?
And saying “If you didn’t read the books that’s TS” is a bunch of crap and not very welcoming. Some people will be new to the franchise and will need a reason to care about the character. Plus the addition of backstory helps integrate the books with the games which will help expand the universe and make it feel more whole.

[Eye roll] Wow some people dont know Halo . Books, animated film and 3 halo games have defined John-117 as a very intreging character . To say that he is not that deep of a character is just a flat out dumb statement . For crying out loud he was named the third most popular video game character of all time . You said to read the books i think you need to read them to learn a little on John-117s character

Most people would go with a Facepalm, but eye rolls work too I guess.
> faceless character
Well you never really get to see Master Chief’s face in the first place so . . .

You’re both too late.

The idea that the player is the Master Chief is dead. John-117 is his own Man. Now it’s time we learn something about that Man. Somethings we’ll already know. Somethings we won’t. I look forward to the journey.
Maybe, it will put to rest the thought held by so many that John 117 is a robot! It can show them a little of how he came to be.
