A NO FRILLS Multiplayer Experience

Lets look at the meaning in context to which this post is based.

No Frills:
Providing plain & basic necessities without the use of additional features or ornamentation.

The concept here is a multiplayer space that is optimised for online gameplay for multiple users where everyone has a fast & on point connection to the game at all times. Any & all additions to the game space add to the use of bandwidth an individual needs to process. If decorations, textures, polygons etc are too numerous it has the potential to bog down your game experience “LAG”; throw in explosions, vehicles, gunfire, multiple players in a concentrated area & your frame rate is likely going to dive.

343 that Im aware have not really addressed their plans on how they are going to give us the best bang for our buck so to speak. Or simply how they plan to make it look great for the smallest networking footprint possible. Sure dedicated servers & the cloud are going to maximise our experience but it will all be for naught if networking is not a priority & too much emphasis is placed upon making a map space look pretty.

H2A for example looks great but many players have complained about lag, frame drops or networking issues. Sure many don’t suffer from these problems but not everyone has top range internet connections to meet its demands.

Just because we have a next gen console and the bar has been raised doesn’t mean devs should always be pushing the most out of it, why not keep it clean & simple for a better overall gaming experience worldwide, it can still look good just spare us non essentials.

Before you disagree note that Iam no way saying campaign should be No Frills; by all means take campaign to the furthest limits the tech can manage. Multiplayer however needs be optimised as such to allow a fast competitive experience, especially for BTB played on large maps.

What I liked about the H2A maps in comparison to a lot of the H4 and maps in other games is the very clean and simple look they all have. There’s not a lot of clutter and it makes navigating and noticing enemy players and weapons a lot easier for me.

Unfortunately I’ve personally not had much game time in multiplayer (not from lack of trying) tho I have done some customs with friends on the H2A maps and they look great. We did have issues however regardless of who hosted the game; 3v3 btw.

After experiencing the H5 beta I was not too impressed with overall lighting & textures, I can only hope clarity is improved for final.

May I ask how bad these frame drops and connection issues were?

Halo is one if the few franchises that can actually handle a few “frills” due to how it is designed. Just a comment of course, I agree with you for the most part.
