To begin with, I want to apologize for any spelling errors. English is not my first language. And if this topic has already come up in another thread I apologize for that as well.
I first had this idea before Halo 4. I were playing Reach with a friend and played around with some fusion coils. Shooting at them when enemies were nearby. And I had this thought - “Hey, it would have been cool if you could pick up the fusion coils and throw them at the enemies.”
I guess that this is how it would work; You walk up to a fusion coil and hold a RB or X or whatever. Once you have it you would carry it over your head and you would probably walk slower (for gameplays sake, like with the turret). You wouldn’t be able to throw it as far as a grenade, but if you hit someone when you do throw it they would die instantly. As they would if they were standing next to one and you shot at it.
You would be vulnerable while carrying it because it would be above your head, making you a bigger target. And if someone shot at it it would explode, dealing instant death to whoever carrying it.
Now I don’t know if this would work in practice, but in theory I think this sounds really fun. Maybe some of you will think that this is just a useless gimmick and maybe it is, but I think that it would fit in the game and encourage a more creative gameplay.
This is a pretty cool idea. I really think this could work with classic gameplay as it doesn’t imbalance the golden triangle of Halo. It would be humorous to see people making strategies in competitive play and juking the guy w/ the Rocket Launcher via surprise coil.
I would suggest making the player in third person while carrying the fusion coil, like your example with turrets. I suppose the throwing arc can be a third of a grenade’s arc. Plus, you should have an option to drop or throw.
Of course, this is what I would do to balance this neat little game changer.

Yes of course! I forgot to write that. A drop option would be crucial, and third person view would be preferable I guess, as long as you have some kind of aim.
I think that a third of what you can throw a grenade is still be pretty far, but on the other hand it would be useless if you throw it and take your own shields out only because you couldn’t throw far enough…
> Why stop at the Fusion coil?

> Lets chuck traffic cones at Grunts and throw Trip mines like a Frisbee.
Haha, I like this! However throwing trip mines like a frisbee maybe taking it too far. You do already throw them when you deploy them.
But throwing traffic cones would be fun! They would probably not make that much damage. As much as a grenade impact perhaps, but still! To kill someone with it would make a nice achievement for multiplayer!
It’s so silly but yet such a great idea at the same time.
I see little value in throwing it unless the maps get smaller/tighter in Halo 5. But the idea of moving them to create a trap or choke point is totally cool. It could bring an element of puzzle-solving or tactical thinking which Halo has mostly lacked.

The maps in Halo 4 are very open, granted. But if we get maps that is similar to The Pit or Rat’s Nest I think it would work.
This feature would come in handy in playlists like CTF and other objective-based gametypes.

Defo!
Heck, I even miss unmovable power cores in regular old slayer. Halo 3 had the very best in terms of responsiveness and explosive quality. You knew what you were going to get when interacting with them.
I don’t recall any in Reach, and Halo 4’s were so twitchy that they probably should have been scratched from the start. Shoot a H4 core several times and watch it suddenly disappear, minus explosion, sound, animation… Bring back our explosive map components!
This reminds me of how Crysis 1 felt to play, and it’s infamous ‘red barrels’.
You could literally pick up just about any scenery object - but not things like vehicles or large rocks/logs.
It would have a fantastic influence on object and map strategy, and there would be a risk/reward to moving objects like fusion coils to a more “advantageous” location, that could perhaps be triggered via Sticky Det.
Would really change how objective games are played, especially things like CTF and Invasion.
There would have to be a slight movement penalty, like the invasion core in Reach, but so long as they can either be thrown or put down, there should be no major issues.
Definitely think on Forge objects under the “Scenery” pallet, there should be a toggleable option for “Grab/Pickup [Enabled/Disabled]”, as well as a global option in Custom Games.
