A new Halo novel about civilians and not the UNSC?

Every single Halo novel written thus far are all about humanity discovering the Rings, the Covenant and their goals, and covert missions by the Spartans to end the Covies, and the Flood, once and for all, but what do you guys think about a novel about how civilian life is/was affected during the time between Halo 2 and 3, or Halo 4 and beyond? I am thinking it would discuss how much people have lost because of all the worlds that got “glassed”, how they view the UNSC and how much/little they are doing to protect the remainder of humanities colonized worlds, and how they rebuild life while awaiting some sort of newsflash that the enemy is finally destroyed? Would that be too broad, and would a family of individual characters be needed to make this novel idea actually worthy of essencial Halo Canon, or would this not work as a fresh read in the primary Halo lore about the UNSC and their battles?

sounds cool, i think it would work

but yea, would probably need like a main family it focuses on, and also talks about others/randoms

I think a story about a family in New Mombasa During the Covenant Invasion in 2552 would be cool. Something like Sadie’s story, or Halo: Uprising’s story about Ruwan in Cleveland. It would focus on the family while also showing what happened during the battle for mombasa. It would bring in a new type of story to the table while keeping the traditional story about the UNSC’s battles as you put it.

I really like this idea. Of course, so it wouldn’t get boring, there would have to be multiple characters/families in this book. Maybe throw in some known characters that we never really got to hear about in the books. Miranda Keyes could work for me. We never got to see what her childhood/teenage years were like at all, except for a tidbit in The Cole Protocol, but never anything from her point of view. (She’s not the only one of course, just can’t think of anyone right now.) I really don’t know what timeline would work though. I think something like The Fall of Reach’s timeline skip around would be more fitting for something like this. Since, at least for me, I don’t want to read about the same time period. Also, the book could end with introducing a new character that will end up in the game(s). That would probably be the only way a book like this could be published, but either way I would read the crap out of something like this.

Aye, it would really be informative in that it would give us a civilians perspective of the events in the Halo universe. We would get to know what ONI tells them about the war, what rumours they’re exposed, and their political opinions. It would make a really compelling book. I’d love to hear what the think of characters like John and the events he has been involved with.

ONI had the propaganda machine going very well for most of the war.

I think it would have trouble having a plot… But its an interesting idea.

I know. There’s a reason Spartans are always listed as M.I.A instead of dead.
But I’d like to know how they represent other species of aliens like the Flood to the world. I’d wager that they probably deny its existence.

I would like a novel from the Insurrectionist’s point of view. Perhaps the years between Lyrenne Castilla’s disappearance in 2504 and her reappearance in 2543. Let’s learn about their colony and infrastructure, which could be interesting since they were able to design and construct new classes of Starship so they must be pretty well off. We could learn about Admiral Cole’s child and see what made them decide to assist the UNSC against the Covenant twice. Then of course learn if Admiral Cole did run away with them and maybe see how they are doing as of 2558.

I think it would be an interesting read.

Thanks for all the great responses! I agree with mostly all of it, except a couple finer details.
It seriously amazes me the depth and richness of detail that is the Halo lore, novelwise. But I think that adding other perspectives/timelines and adding character with compelling stories and some sort of lesson they learned would make a killer Halo novel.
