A "Modern" Shooter Game?

People who say Halo needs to have sprint to be a “modern shooter game” in order to compete with other “modern shooter games,” are you being serious? Sprint has been in video games since before the last console generation. How is this mechanic in any way at all modern? The same can be said about the “ADS” animation. There’s nothing new or even anything close to new about it. Now, I have no issues with smart scope, I like the feature, but why people say Halo needs it to be a modern shooter is beyond me.

I’m gonna be honest here, after having played Halo 4, I found myself wishing being able to sprint while playing Halo 3.

Something that doesn’t rely on “aaawww man, the good ol’ days of missing a crouch jump and sliding down a wall like Wiley coyote” just to sell the game.

I guess, in paintball, I’m not allowed to run like hell to not get shot if I get caught in the open.

Fun fact: Many laserdome/lasertag arenas prohibit you from running. /end of funfact

Sprinting is a mechanic and a rule of the game. Every game you play follow a set of rules, changing those rules change how the game is played which is the reason sprint is debated. Or don’t you think prone, corner leaning or prolonged melee combat would change how Halo plays?

I had the exact same experience. Wanting to get back into the action quicker!

Most popular FPS right now, and it’s not even close… Counter-strike.

I swear you so nothing but whine and complain about sprint.

I wouldn’t say it’s the most popular one out there. CoD still firmly holds that title but I’ll say the CSGO is probably the most popular to competitive players. Halo might be getting back up there with H2A and H5G.

I was wishing to sprint in H3 on its launch day.

In paintball you’re allowed to shoot while sprinting. Don’t try to play cancer like Sprint off as “muh realism”.

Gonna be honest here, when I hear Mozart, I really wish his music had less orchestra and more dubstep.

Yeah but you get out in one hit in paintball.

Nope sprint has no place in halo mp. Add it in campaign that’s fine it will not effect mp at all. Halo 1 to 3 had it right and well we got cod ghosts quality halo game instead with reach and 343.

although i don’t care much about the realistic, or lore excuses when talking about sprint. i don’t believe someone sprinting or running at full speed, can really aim a weapon. if you want to talk about realism, real soldiers put their guns down to sprint. Even in the lore and campaign chief and other’s will use sprint.

sprin can be used to get around safer when a sniper is out, to find cover, flank, escape, dodge grenades, dodge vehicles, hijack vehicles, dodge a blast from rockets or explosive fire, get a quick assassination.

their are many reasons why someone might want to risk lowering their weapons to gain speed. but in my opinion sprint should be put into those situations, it shouldn’t be used all the time, and base speed shouldn’t be so weak. and it seams 343 are heading in the right direction with nerfing sprint, and now increasing base speed.

in my opinion gameplay>realism, lore. they are all important, but if you have a great story and realism with bad game play might as well just make a damn movie, or book…well i guess with movies realism don’t matter much.

there’s a reason why bungie and 343 throw in stuff first, and then make up some crazy lore story to make it fit in after.

The only thing Halo ever needed to speed up the gameplay was, higher FoV, faster base player speed, faster player acceleration, and weapon tuning.

thats because the laser kit is expensive and fragile… paintball guns are, while still being expensive (unless you’re using a rental), not so fragile. same goes for airsoft weapons. lasers are for kids
