A little disappointed

When Halo 4 first was released, we were all hyped for Spartan Ops (at least, I know I was) because we were essentially given a Fire Team to call our own. But for all that we did, all the Covies we squashed and all the Prometheans we shattered; it just felt like what we did never really mattered. I thought about this as we were captured when going to rescue Thorne. We were held captive and by all rights, we were ahead of Majestic in the bets and dares they made with Palmer and Miller. But even though we were silently compared to Blue Team early on in how well we outperformed Majestic, it still felt like we didn’t really matter. Every interaction involving Crimson was just played off like we were just regular Spartans who got lucky but it didn’t matter.

Thorne: hey Commander, what’s that thing the Scientists are crowding around?
Palmer: just some hunk of junk Crimson found, nothing really. The eggheads are drawn to it like moths to a flame though.

We are instantly cast aside when Majestic takes the forefront to interact with Halsey, making us feel like just a set of guns storming the battlefield.

Majestic could never actually beat us as far as I am made aware; it seems completely scripted that, even if you sat there for an hour while Majestic gloats about getting the first pylon down, Majestic just comes to a stand still after that. They can’t beat you.

But this goes beyond just rubbing it in Majestic’s face that they can’t best us because plot devices for characters that don’t say a word. Even when we’re helping save the Infinity, it just never felt like much. A few praises from Palmer and Miller were all we got; heck, we didn’t even hear from Captain Lasky.

Now Halo 5 comes around and Fire Team Crimson just doesn’t exist? All that time making a name for ourselves and we just poof?

There were people who hated or at least didn’t care for Spartan Ops, but I found enjoyment in it. I just don’t like how quickly everything we did was just swept under the rug. (Apologies, I started to ramble mid way through this)

Agreed. Calling it “season one” as if season two is a possibility, but then concluding its story in some comic book was unprofessional and just bad form. I should never have to go read a book or a comic book to find out how the story in my video game ends.

While I’m more or less indifferent on this subject most of the time, I’m inclined to agree. If you started something in the game, please finish it in the game. I don’t want to start up Halo 4, go through chapters of Spartan Ops then be told to turn to my computer or go find a Barnes and Nobles to find what happens next.

I truly do hope our silent selves find a place in the next Halo; if even just in more things like Spartan Ops. It’d be really intriguing if we got the Reach treatment where our Crimson Fire Team was part of the story. Let us be a bit more personal with the Chief in terms of interaction; after all, the goal is immersion and story telling, right?

Spartan Ops was a lot of fun, and as a storytelling medium, had the potential to be a long running aspect of Halo: 4. I was let down when it didn’t continue past Season 1. I don’t mind comics, etc. for expanding the story at all. It adds depth and variety to the setting. But I would tend to concur that if it was launched in game, it should be reasonably concluded in game, or at least tied off nicely to launch a separate story in the comic.

Agreed, it just felt like so little despite how many missions there were. And then it got cut off to be continued elsewhere?

Apparently so. Which again, I don’t mind outside sources for lore, but if you start it in game, at least tie it off before shifting sources. Also, “Season 1” does rather imply a “Season 2”, and that added to the let-down.

Oh without a doubt; we were told that Season 1 was just the start of it; but then we got the other half of Season 1 and that was it. Concluded. It’d be nice to have Spartan Ops re-established and have more seasons. And as I said in another post here; it’d be nice if our Fire Team Crimson could be more engaging in the actual story rather than just being a side story character that has no input. Make it like Reach; we customize our Spartan and then they engage in the story from time to time. But maybe that might just be me.

The Creative Director and the guy who wrote Halo 4 left 343i and Halo 4’s multiplayer was pretty much on fire (and not in the good way). People were angry and the flagship was in trouble, so Microsoft and 343i had to right the ship, thus why we never got Season 2 and why Halo 5’s story and the direction of the Halo universe at this point is a trainwreck.

I had heard about that; about how they had to juggle leads at the last second causing a horrible rift in the story development. I honestly hope that 343 can bring it back to where they wanted it to be and not where they had to throw it. Honestly, the story hasn’t been god awful, but it definitely could be better. Halo 5: Guardians definitely felt like 343 wasn’t giving it their all and even fell off here and there. I’m hoping the next game is in a much better spot.

Hopefully,Crimson makes a return.
I really liked the concept…

Not that I know of, I only know there’s apparently a comic about the second part of Spartan Ops, no clue if it contains Crimson; doubtful considering that Crimson is purely just a character you make.

Here’s hoping! I really miss our Spartan squad. But I wonder what they would be a part of if they did return?

I would say an updated version of Spartan ops. There is a cry for it and when it wasn’t delivered again in Halo 5, it rather made a lot of gamers a bit angry. 343 has stated that with Halo 6, a return to roots and what the gamers wanted was considered alot in how its being made. So yes, here’s hoping
