A little bit of Triva on Halo Reaches Bloom.

This is just what bloom is in the real world, outside of Halo, and how it matches up with the games version.

You see, when firing a rifle the bullet goes through the barrel, scraping against the sides causing friction. The barrel of most guns (besides the general nerf gun) is made of metal, so when friction creates heat the metal expands.

What does this mean?

Well, the faster you fire your gun the more friction there is going to be, so your barrel of your gun is going to be hotter. The hotter the barrel of your gun is, the more the metal is going to expand, which means that your next shot is going to be less and less accurate.

So that is where they got bloom from. The faster you fire, the more your bullets are going to spray, and make you miss your prey.

Also, next random and unrelated triva. An American Hospital’s medical record stats that 5% of all people suffering from bullet wounds to the head survived. Next time your playing Swat, pop in another few shots.

how do you know they didnt create some super metalloid that absorbs heat and doesnt expand? its always a possibility lol, but interesting info lol.

> how do you know they didnt create some super metalloid that absorbs heat and doesnt expand? its always a possibility lol, but interesting info lol.

If they could do that, they wouldn’t be using the same bullets that we have now.

why not? if it doesnt cause recoil anymore why not keep them?

> how do you know they didnt create some super metalloid that absorbs heat and doesnt expand? its always a possibility lol, but interesting info lol.

How does any material ever absorb heat, stay in its current phase, and not expand? Isnt that impossible?

Well, they haven’t mentioned anything in the books, well I don’t think they have, I don’t really read books, so I’m guessing its based on what our guns do right now, I sorta linked the two together because, well, they fit perfectly.

But to make something not expand… I dunno what they would use, they have been talking about using nano-carbon stuff? Maybe they could use that to stop “bloom”

But I’m pretty sure thats where they got bloom from.

Because Halo is realistic. People in real life can jump 10 feet high, survive a fall from outer space, take 16 AR bullets to the head like a champ, and drown in a teaspoon of water.

I don’t understand. Are you angry at me for pointing out something that is related to Halo in the real world?

Oh well, anyway I guess its kinda unrealistic what they put in, but they almost always have a backup story for how it works. Its nothing like Final Fantasy, or Lost.

> Because Halo is realistic. People in real life can jump 10 feet high, survive a fall from outer space, take 16 AR bullets to the head like a champ, and drown in a teaspoon of water.

  1. The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor increases jump height.
  2. Re-entry pack.
  3. Energy Shields.
  4. Gameplay reasons. Would you rather have it so people can snipe you from the ocean?

I understand that they wanted to make a more realistic aiming experience with bloom, but we are playing as heavily trained Spartans encased in Mjolnir battle armor. If the Spartan himself couldn’t control his shots with super strength, the armor would make any sort of recoil non-existent.

Not bashing on OP, nice trivia.

You did not understand me.

I blame my explaining skills.

The metal in the barrel of the rifle expands, making it crooked. That means not matter how strong you are, the heat is still going to affect your aim.

It doesn’t matter how strong you are, the laws of physics still apply.

Maybe none of you understand what I’m saying.

Halo was never about realism. It’s about gameplay quality. Just because you could relate bloom to real life doesn’t mean that it’s a reason to put it in. “It’s there in real life so that’s why bungie put it in” is a horrible excuse.

Halo focuses solely on gameplay quality and ensures that the mechanics an aesthetics in-game work smoothly and only enhance the experience. That’s the reason why spartans can jump 10 feet high, have no fall damage, and render the AR completely useless, not because of “HURR DURR THEY GOT ENERGY SHIELDS AND ARMOR DURR”.

I’m going to take a wild stab in the dark and say your not a fan of bloom.
But the truth is, if they are going to add it into the game, it has to be real. If you add a fake mechanic into the game, your gonna look stupid. Bloom was a good mechanic in real life to put into a game to get people to think about how fast they shoot. Very competitive people go crazy about how “random (could spend hours telling you how its not random, but I gotta get to be soon)” it is, while the casual guys are just like, meh, OMGZ I SEE COVIE! POW POW POW! Ooo, bloom, slower POW POW POW.

Well, thats what its like for me anyway.

I always knew about that (aside from the headshot thing), Bloom IS very much realistic indeed. But I guess you know why so many fans despise it.

I think all materials expand to some degree when they get hotter its just a matter or finding one where the effect is miniscule (so you will always have some bloom)

The problem is at higher level gameplay bloom doesn’t function well at all, spamming can win over pacing.

Just quietly were here to relate bloom to real life, not exactly talk it up or down. Just sayin.
