The link above is an incomplete document which contains a factual list of things that 343i removed from the franchise when they created Halo 4.
the goal of this thread is the same as the document’s goal: to spread the knowledge of what Halo 4 is missing, to both the community and the casual players, as well as 343 Industries themselves, in hope that they will implement some of these features back into the franchise. Some of these features are what makes “Halo”, Halo.
again: EVERYTHING listed in the document is a fact,
not an opinion.
It also contains: things that were left out, things that don’t work, things from pre-Reach that would be nice to have back, things from pre-4 that were objectively better.
@DSight - you’re welcome. I was quite amazed myself when I started the document. taking away so many gametypes, seemingly for no reason, was what started this project.
@Vancouva - the hidden options boggles my mind too. I hope they’re not denying us [disabled sprint] because they want us to get used to it.

Shame the Removal Service didn’t remove peoples memories of Halo 3 too, would have been better and more Humane! I hate to see Halo 3 players suffer unnecessarily.
Well, I would like to thank you, but some of it is actually factually inaccurate.
Anyway, a suggestion for the list, put dashes on the side of each point, and put them in their own lines, so it makes each point clearer
-Like this
-And this
Also, something else that they removed that I’d like you to add to your list, that I’ve never seen anybody mention before, is the tiny picture on the top right of your HUD at the top-left area of your ammo bar, that shows whatever your second weapon is. It even showed reserve ammo count in Reach. While it is something small, it is still marginally useful, as you don’t have to switch weapons to see what else you have if you barely spawned, or if you forgot how much ammo it has, with just a quick glance.
Really, there’s no point not having it, but I guess that reason hasn’t stopped 343 before.
@WolfBlade XIII - I have no idea what that means.
@Road Wulf - thanks, it has been added to the document and you have been credited.
@Methew - can’t tell if sarcasm?
@Lehnaru - at least now you’re more aware than before, the more aware EVERYBODY is, the better chance the next game will be a step forward.
@El Tigre Chang - which parts are “factually inaccurate”?.
I’ll test your way of formatting, though I think it will make the document too long.
thanks, actually me and my friends noticed that too (long before this doc was created). it has been added to the document and you have been credited.
Think I can help add or edit some items:
-Leader bonus in slayer is an option, but I have not tested to specifically make sure it works.
-You could add a section of removed medals, like the sniper headshot and perfection.
-No dualwielding.
-Ability to differentiate between your party and other players while in a lobby. (There is no way to tell the difference between matched players and your party members in the lobby or in the “X” selection menu.)
-Ability to see other parties in lobbies (removed from Reach).
-Party grouping in pre- and post- game lobbies. (removed from Reach).
-Ability to see if the enemy team has mics or is using party chat in the pre-game lobby.
-Ability to “group” with players found through matchmaking. (Found in Halo3.)
-Clans and clans matchmaking.
-In customs, cannot set specialization perks as classes or as forced perks. (Ex: You cannot give the stealth perk to players without unlocking it first.)
-Ability to see skill ranking ingame.
-Option to send a party invite on the ingame player card. You must instead open the players Live Gamer Card.
-Ability to “outlaw” specific weapons, perks, grenades, or armor abilities in customs settings. You can either force a specific option for each loadout options, or not allow it entirely. (Ex: Cannot outlaw active camo but allow all other abilities. So we must either turn off armor abilities, or force all players to use a single ability.)
-Vehicle health bar. (Removed from Halo:CE).
-Passenger health bars when in vehicles. (Removed from Halo:CE).
Glitches:
-When movement speed is increase, sprinting causes footsteps to lose synchronization with its audio.
Hope this can help the list grow and become more accurate. BTW, is it possible to set a warthog or other vehicle as the oddball? I know it was a gametype in Reach’s action sack.

You are so blind and rude to anyone who does not agree with what you say. You are against anything pre-Halo 4. Do you not see, that this is a loss for you too?
THINGS FROM PRE-4 THAT
WERE OBJECTIVELY BETTER (Campaign):
-Armor ability pick ups (in Reach they could be distinguished by icon holograms, there was noticeable picked up text)
-Jetpack (it’s nerf makes no sense, except for MP balancing :/)
-grenade count of 4 (a grenade count of 4 made grenades a more viable option on LASO (in H2) and was versatile (tricking, launches))
-weapon/corpse deload times
-shield recharge wait/stun time
-Legendary scaling (in CE, your shields recharged quickly on Legendary, not just the enemies. In Reach, there was very noticeable Co-op scaling)
-allied AI support (marines in H4 are only good at close range. Spartans on the other hand are completely abysmal on foot. Marines can’t drive Wraiths, though I actually welcome this change)
-vehicle sections (the Mammoth ought to have been pilotable, Lich is extremely easy to take down, Ghost run was abysmal, Broadsword run should have been open, Pelican section was undoubtedly botched, Mantis was overused (but not nearly as bad as aforementioned vehicles))
-checkpoints (CE, H3, and Reach had repeating checkpoints. Why remove this?)
I’ll update this later… when I’m finished with my H4 glitching session today.
It’d be nice to see the Zombie Count Percentage return alongside the numerical one we have had since Reach. It would make Custom Games lobbies of varying sizes more fair without having to change the zombie counter in infection all the time.
> BTW, is it possible to set a warthog or other vehicle as the oddball? I know it was a gametype in Reach’s action sack.
I don’t believe so. I tried replicating my KOTH gametype from Reach doing that, and it didn’t seem to work if I had done it correctly. Shame.

At least some of this can be explained by the very fact we have 2 discs. It’s obvious they were on memory budgets with this game; when you need a second disc just to install multiplayer and Spartan Ops, some corners are gonna have to be cut.
This doesn’t excuse everything though, such as the no sprint thing.

Removed everything that can’t be counted as objective. In my experience as well, the Spartans are pretty good as far as friendly AI go, and the Marines are useless (unless they have a DMR).
