Let me start by saying I am a Halo veteran. I got an original Xbox in 2003 with CE and immediately fell in love with Halo. I got Halo 2 on launch day, but didn’t get Xbox Live until December of 2007 when Halo 3 was out. I played the hell out of Halo 3, with 3000 games played. Then Reach came out, and although many hated it, I enjoyed it. But with Halo 4, I cannot enjoy it. It’s too much like CoD for me. So, having the mindset of an old school Halo player, I set out to create a new compromise between old players like me and the new Halo players that like Halo 4. This is what I came up with, and is what I hope Halo 5 to be.
Essential to this is the inclusion of Ranked and Social playlists. I will detail that below:
RANKED PLAYLISTS
The return of Ranked playlists, they would contain a ranking system similar to that of Halo 3: 1-50, EXP achieved for winning, highest skill, ect. The only difference is that the system would incorporate KDR as well as W/L to the ranking system, something which I understand that Halo 3 and 2 lacked. Anyways, here’s my vision for what the gameplay would be like:
BR starts, no loadouts. This would make old-school fans who desire a BR-only playlist extremely happy. Of course, for playlists like Snipers, this would not be the case.
Sprint is enabled. I feel like this is a good addition to the series. The only thing that would need to change is the speed. Maybe make it like 75% of what it is in Halo 4. Maps can’t be designed with sprint in mind, either, or else we get stretched out maps like we have in Halo 4
Armour abilities would return, but would be on-map pickups like equipment from H3 was. If someone picks one up, then dies, the AA disappears, though. This would make AAs more like powerweapons meant to be used smartly, unlike what they were in 4 and Reach.
Static weapon spawns, WITHOUT HUD icons showing where they are. Pretty self-explanatory.
NO ORDNANCE AT ALL. It would unbalance these playlists, which are meant to be competetive.
SOCIAL PLAYLISTS
Social playlists would be more like a hybrid between Halo 4 and Halo 3’s gameplay. This is in hopes of making the fans of Halo 4 and Reach stick around, too. I also decided to re-do some elements of Halo 4 to make them more balanced.
Loadouts will return, but not in their current form. Picture this: everyone has every starting weapon (AR, BR, LR, DMR, SPR, Carbine, SR) unlocked at the start of their Halo 5 career. This would be the same with AAs. At the start of the game, you can choose one starting weapon and one AA. While you can change your starting weapon during the match between deaths, you CANNOT do the same with AAs.
Static weapon spawns like the ranked playlist. I don’t care if the weapons have locations marked on their HUD or not.
A rebuilding of the Personal Ordnance system. I like the concept a lot, but I feel it was poorly executed in H4. First off, my version would require an actua killing spree to get a PO, not a point streak like H4 has. Each time you earn a PO, you get a pick between Speed Boost, Damage Boost, or Health Boost. Each would be significantly nerfed from the Halo 4 version. For example, Damage Boost would only require one less bullet to kill an enemy, instead of the 2x damage we have now. Each time you get a PO, the next one requires 5 more kills (first one is a killing spree, then you need a frenzy, then running riot, and so on)
So, what do you guys think? Are these good ideas? Do you want 343i to use this? I really want to hear everyone’s opinions on this. Thanks for reading.
Dust, the thing is that the Ranked and Social playlists would be too different for that to work. Classic Halo and New Halo are completely different games.
Halo Reach is def better than 4, seriously, custom classes?, sprint?, Dmr and boltshot,? no intresting characters besides Chief, Cortana and the Didact? Halo 5 needs to be better.
Looks like to me the OP just wants a carbon copy of one of the older titles.
I get really tired of people who live in the past. Apparently COD gets bashed day in and day out for being pretty much the same game with every release and yet Halo is exempt from this mentality.
If Halo 4 was a copy of the same gameplay we had been playing for the last ten years (except Reach) then I would have not purchased this game. When I purchase NEW GAMES, I expect NEW CONTENT AND NEW GAMEPLAY!
If I want to play the old way of playing, I’ll go play Halo 3. If Halo 3 for example is sooooo great, then why are there not more people still playing it? And don’t give me that garbage it’s an old game because COD has several titles that are still the most played. In fact, people are still playing GTA IV and that game is like ten years old.
The developers and the MAJORITY have moved on, why can’t you?

Kind of agree. Elements must be kept the same, but the game HAS to evolve over time. Asking for Halo 3 back is just stupid.

The guy throws you a bone and you’re telling him no. He’s wanting the option to play the game he likes and he’s willing for you to have your playlist as well. BUT as usual… it’s No… it’s our way and that’s it.
Why can’t Social be different from Rank? Why does it have to be a Ranked playlist disguised as a Social playlist. We’re heading into a Next Generation Console that will allow developers to create almost limitless content and it’s still NOOOO we want Halo 3.
It’s Ok. I don’t know why it ticks me off, I got Destiny to look forward to over this recycled argument. I’m gonna laugh when the Halo Competitive show up in Destiny’s forums complaining about guns called “Fool’s Errand” and " Midnight Screamer", let alone the magical AAs present.

Because the lack of everything in this game? Live in the past? Look if the game was good the way he was why this much improvement?

I have to agree with this train of thought entirely. If this game didn’t progress with the game play, then why shouldn’t we still be in the old story line? If you want to be in the old way of of playing the game, then I will thank you to forget about playing against Forerunners, using new weapons, and go back to fighting the Prophets on Installation 04. Honestly 343 has to do something to progress this franchise to make it their own, or Microsoft would have left things in the hands of Bungie.

I think it’s limited there are people these days who drool over the old stuff. Granted, the older Halo games are great, but it’s done, it’s over with. I was just playing CE for example not long ago and holy God, I do not miss that game very much and I played the crap out of thinking it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
For whatever reason people keep trying to relive this two and half millisecond moment that happened one time and one time only, five years ago they had while playing a game. IT’S OVER!
People yap about how games are stale now and that they feel like they’re being held back. You wanna know what holds games back, THE GAMERS! They live in this La La Land of Nostalgia that is exactly like someone who is dreaming while they sleep.

Your exactly right COD is the same game every year but, they aren’t having any issues being #1 on the charts, which Halo 4 change completely your logic isn’t good enough. Halo made halo nothing new did so the big changes didn’t need the change.

Pro tip:
When you address someone’s statement, you need to keep it in context and not pick out certain parts so you can twist them slightly to your liking.

COD has walking tanks and remote controlled AC bomb cars, let alone all kinds of other tech. Halo 4 an Auto Turret…whan whan whan whaannn.
Well, let me just address the fact of the matter. There are some people that DO NOT like change, and they will complain about any change that is made until another game comes out. Remember how everyone complained that they changed Halo too much when Reach came out? When Halo 4 came out Reach was suddenly amazing. Here it is plain and simple to those who are going to continue to complain until Halo 5 comes out. Go play CE through Reach or Anniversary, then once 5 comes out you will be over joyed with 4.

That´s right COD with the small differences every year is still played by millions and is always on the top most played games Xbox Live

So your point is 343i will continue to destroy Halo untill -Yoink!- enters bankruptcy. Fair enough
They need to do something with custom games too. They should bring in the race gametype, and although the flood thing is cool, it’s preventing me from making maps that I used to play because he can’t hold any weapons.
