I am really excited for Infinite, but I am a bit concerned for this bit of news that was given today. It seems like people on PC are at a straight-up disadvantage - especially those who play on controller.
Red reticle is immensely useful visual feedback to help players know when to attack. I probably do not need to tell you that it becomes hard to tell if an enemy is within range and when aim assist kicks in for controllers. However, whats worse is the fact it shows you to what extent you need to lead your shots. Take a look at this video on Reddit: .reddit.com/r/halo/comments/q167ax/how_to_useaim_the_skewer/
(Sorry, apparently, I lost my privileges to include links in posts after the update)
For the Skewer, the red reticle guides you at leading tour shots. Understand why I am concerned?
We have an option to limit matchmaking by input, but I am not sure if we can do the same by system. Clearly someone on Xbox has the advantage over someone on PC assuming same input device. Still, I do not want to limit my search to >1/4th the population because of this decision.
Quite frankly, I do not care about any scripts someone might write up for an advantage. RR exists on MCC and I never had a severe problem there. It is not worth taking away important visuals for half of the player base just to get a few people who want cheap kills. I am also not sure why anyone with an Xbox is immune to such as script. Alternatively, you can get rid of it for everyone so it is at least fair, but I think it is best if it is kept.
This exactly. If it really isn’t important, remove it from ALL platforms. Singling out pc players like this will honestly steer me away from the multiplayer and buying battle passes until there is platform parity.
As a PC user who mainly plays campaign, I’m really not happy with the removal of the the red reticle. It’s a very useful tool that tells you when you’re in range to fire. Removing it just make the game feel less like Halo.
I feel like they need to clarify things a bit more. Specifically, is this just the UI element of the red reticle and some aim assist features? Or are they turning off bullet magnetism entirely on PC?
The former is a little rough, but it’s fine. It just means a learning curve for adding range figures to your average game sense.
The latter would, honestly, be unnecessarily cruel. Changing the core aiming mechanics for one platform would just… not be the play…
I would love if 343 would clarify that, given how much one is worse than the other.
I simply refuse to believe that they have no better solution to handling cheaters than the removal of core fps HUD features. The game shouldn’t remove parts of itself to solve cheater problems, it should be a robust behind the scenes anticheat system that preserves the things we love. Not like this will slow down the vast majority of hackers anyway.
I understand why they did it, but I think there has to be a better option. I play on Xbox, but I just feel like it’s not necessary, but still a little important.
I mean, it does also create a nice bit of balancing for keyboard warriors. Would be nicer if controller using PC players did get the red reticle, but then again that would nullify the anti-cheat component.
The most important thing about red reticle is that it gives you a clear visual indicator of whether or not your weapon will be affected by aim assist (on controller) as well as bullet magnetism (on both control options). Without it there is too much guesswork involved. Especially with Infinite’s weird ranges for RRR where some have really short ones and others have absurdly long ones compared to other games in the franchise.
I totally understand the desire to avoid programs designed to fire automatically when the reticle turns red, as it can make sniping pretty OP. But the information lost is so huge.
I understand that, although I don’t think it’s as big an issue as some people say. My comment though was replying to someone who was asking for 343 to clarify the situation around RR, and I was explaining the situation to them.
I agree. I have been reading some of the threads about weapon bloom, and someone mentioned that the Sidekick can remain accurate within its Red Reticle Range even when spamming because the bullet magnetism from the RRR overtakes the bloom. So, as a PC player, how am I supposed to tell where the RRR is and when I am able to rapid fire the Sidekick?
