If an A.I. had an appearance of say i dunno…lets use Serena from halo wars. Ok, lets say Serena wanted to change her appearance to look like Cortana. Is that possible? Would anything Serena had like memory wise get damaged? Or like would you need an A.I. Specialist to change the appearance, or could the A.I.'s just do it themselves? This is all coming from a thought I had today. Let me guys know, thanks.
I imagine they can change at will.
Cortana changing appearance between games would support that.
Like Darkslayer said, pretty sure their appearance is just a personal pereference. The Black Box, for example, consciously decided to appear as just a featureless box.

And he changes his appearance at will several times as well. There’s nothing keeping an AI from changing their avatar other than personal preference.
I do agree as well, however not all A.I.s have this ability. There are a good amount of ship A.I.s however most don’t actually have an appearance.
