A *HUGE issue with the ark theories.

Alright, it has been several times in the franchise that it can take entire months to get from one star system to another. In Halo 3, Chief and the others ONLY got to the ark so quickly because of the portal in Africa. The Ark is 262,144 lightyears from the galactic center (Still super far from earth). Heck, the ark is OUTSIDE of the Galaxy. If it takes months to get from colony to colony, EVEN WITH SLIPSPACE, how is Chief going to get to the ark by simply stealing a ship? A lightyear is literally equal to the distance that light will travel in a whole year. I know that slipspace is faster than lightspeed, BUT it should take years to get to the ark, if it takes months just to get from one colony to the other.

Edit: I realize that people have found ways of getting there, BUT I’m saying that the theory of Chief straight-up hijacking a ship and taking off seems a bit convoluted to me. I mean, these other pathways to the ark must have plenty of people guarding/studying them. Chief would be detected in no time.

They could easily write in the discovery of another portal or hell, use the original one from Halo 3. The last piece of content from Halo Evolutions suggests that they started studying the Artifact / portal as soon as the war ended and that it was still drawing power from somewhere. It’s been 5 years since then I think in terms of the timeline, so it could be active again.

And obviously if this joint Sangheili-UNSC force went back to the Ark in 2555, it’s certainly possible for Chief to get back as well. Seems to me that the release of the novel in June adds more weight to the Ark theories. Either way, getting there really isn’t an issue.

If there is another portal on Earth, that’s just lazy writing. I mean, Halo 3’s epic fight and main plot point was finding THE portal to the ark. Slipspace will take an eternity to get to the ark, I’m sorry but it’s logic. Besides, do you really think that Chief magically reopened the portal in a freakin mega glasses portion of Africa. It’s probably a highly guarded, sealed-off, or destroyed location. Besides, how would the UNSC not notice a guy flying into a portal that’s dozens of miles wide?

Well, H4 has shown us that 343 is not opposed to ignoring information we were given in older Halo games. Maybe this time around, the Ark can be closer to the rest of the galaxy, just because.

Please enlighten me on how they ignored previous information.

I might be unfamiliar with the Ark theories, but what’s the purpose of Chief going back to the Ark? Are these theories primarily the result of the E3 trailer of Chief walking in the desert?

Sounds like something you just made up because you’re butthurt about something 343 did. They have never contradicted Halo lore in anything they’ve done.

How does the covenant simply say, “Hey,lets head back to the ark”. No one should even know its exact location. The only reason that anyone found it at all was because of the portal. Like I said, slip space takes too damn long, so you mean to tell me that everything I fought for in Halo 3 was just one of two or more ways to getting to the ark?

It was stated by Guilty Spark in the final level of H3 that forerunners were ancient humans. He looked Master Chief in the eye and said, “you are a child of my makers, inheritor of all they left behind. you ARE forerunner”. Then H4 comes along and now suddenly forerunners and ancient humans were different.

I think you responded to the wrong person, but we get your point.

No it wasn’t. The entire point of the Ark was that it was the last refuge for all life in the galaxy; having the ONLY portal be at Earth would be colossally dumb given that they have a whole galaxy to to send to the Ark. So if the intent was for the Earth to have the only portal to get to the Ark in the whole galaxy, Bungie were the ones who screwed up, and 343i would be fixing that by having more portals.

But we know that wasn’t the intention; there are portals everywhere. In fact there was an entire portal network back in the Forerunners’ days, the Earth was just one such portal nexus. And aside from that, we know that the Earth Portal is being studied AND that the UNSC Rubicon was already sent through it.

That is false. Guilty Spark made that statement, but if you watched the terminals, it also clearly showed that the Librarian discovered the human species beyond the maginot line, taking them to the ark, designating them as special, and then spending her last days Africa.

This is directly contradicted by the Halo 3 Terminals, which has the Librarian tending too and nurturing primitive humans on the early Earth. It also contradicts the Iris Campaign, which has tribal Africans worshiping the Forerunners as Gods while they build the Ark portal, which is exactly what they depict in the Forerunner Trilogy: tribal humans having a deep religious reverence of some Forerunners, primarily the Librarian.

Guilty Spark was insane, and we even learn that “Forerunner” is a title, not the name of their species, that they gave themselves in recognition of their impermanence. Therefore, Spark is speaking metaphorically. It’s all been discussed to death; there is no contradiction by 343i’s hand.

The desert isn’t the ark, the desert is sandtrap. Cheif left the maps boundries, thats why you see a GUARDIAN in the trailer with bird wings try to kill chief. He’s out of bounds. Hence the Halo 5: GUARDIANS.

If anything they’ve cleaned up the sloppy writing Bungie did. Bungie ignored the lore. 343 embraces it. I mean hell, Halo 5’s marketing campaign is a treasure trove for lore fans.

I’ll be honest, I think that’s by far the worst and least credible of all the theories out there. Makes me laugh every time.

This.

It’s been confirmed that the Voi Portal is still actively drawing power, so it’s not a stretch that it can be reactivated. And they’ve been to the Ark now, and you can relatively trace where slipspace paths are going. It’s not out of the question that they can track the Ark in a way. Hopefully Hunters in the Dark covers how they return, because there have been several expeditions back to the Ark by Halo 5’s time.

By the way, the Voi Portal wouldn’t be the only method to getting to the Ark. There are likely other portals or secrets, and a Forerunner ship could get there easily as long as it knows the location.

when it comes to lore cannon I am reminded of an old George Lucas quote where he said about star wars.“the movies are gospel, everything else is gossip.”
I feel what is in the games is where cannon starts, things outside of the games should not be treated as quite as “factual” as things revealed in the games.

That’s not true for Halo.

Bungie’s canon policy originally stated that the games are the prime source.
But 343i has set all forms of media and sources of story as equally canon. The comics and novels and movies and games and more all hold equal weight under canon status. Clarifications and selective hierarchies can be made for certain things, like the Reach issue as they worked to clean it up, but it’s all equal.
